I was debating whether to post this thread in the travel section or in the game forum but decided game was more appropriate, though this thread is location dependent.

Guys, as we all know Washington, DC is a tough place for players in North America, right behind Toronto, and I will be the first to admit that approaching here is an unpleasant chore. As I’ve gotten older bars & clubs have exhausted their appeal. So, unique and creative ways need to be utilized to maximize one’s game, especially when it comes to quality (finding women here above an 8 is an exercise in frustration).

A topic that hasn’t been covered enough in these forums and only alluded to by some of the Florida members is boat game, I am specifically referring to boat game in Washington, DC which is an uptight city, with mediocre weather (one can only enjoy their boat comfortably on the Potomac from May – September), strict regulations (can’t dock your boat in some of the docks after 12am, Park Police patrolling docks all the time and having basically zero tolerance for public drinking/partying), and too few and overpriced Marina’s however for those players who have the money and want visibility it beats just about any club in the summer time. One can run day-game/night-game/tourist game/millionaire-game simultaneously on their boat.

We already know that DC’s most successful billionaire bachelor, Michael Saylor, does this to full extent and I have friends who have been and raved about his boat parties. One can pass by his boats ( Moksha / Firefly; both worth several million) parked in Georgetown just about any weekend night in the summer time and see dozens of “stripper shoes” placed in nice rows beside the boat.

Fortunately even for us “small potatoes” we can benefit from it and don’t need a large crew to run this. One does not have to be ultra-rich so I had a chance this past summer to do a partial investment in a friends 34ft powerboat (we wanted to make sure the boat had enough space for at least 10 or so people to party comfortably, space to live if need be, modern conveniences such as top of the line A/V entertainment system, bathroom and kitchen, and for performance and maneuverability twin engines and last but not least high enough to be level with the Georgetown Waterfront dock for added visibility and ease of access for guests). For the price of a new 3-series BMW we had one of the best boats in DC water and almost every time we took it out for a spin we were getting girls taking photo’s and trying to get on board with very minimal effort.

As boat guys know, logistics in DC can be very hard as both Georgetown and to a lesser extent National harbor don’t have much space by their docks so “the early bird get’s the worm”. One certainly does not want to be the last guy docked at the end of the line so docking early in the day and being visible and next to the bars is extremely important.

From there you can just chill on the boat, drinking/socializing/listening to music and just holla at the girls passing by.If it was early in the day or the weather didn’t cooperate we would take our act to the nearby bars and just post up at Sequoias outdoor bar or Tony & Joes within view of our boat…”we are having a party on our boat, wanna join us for a drink” went surprisingly well. Technically this line is about the same as inviting a girl back to your place for a drink on the first meet-up though it is much more reliable as the girls guard is down and she genuinely is interested in checking your boat.

Only thing (beta move?) we would provide was drinks and food once we got them on the boat. We would have their undivided attention and my friend “the captain” had no problem’s showing them the downstairs portion of the boat Getting numbers and following up with “boat dates” was instant DTF and good conversion rate.

Of course, now the winter has set in and it is miserable here. We’ve also had to pay for major maintenance repairs (even on a boat with as few as 300 engine hours) and for dry dock storage. So the question arises, especially for those forum players who live in the more northern climates is what has been your experience with boat game (if any), should I try to go even bigger & stronger next year (bypassing long-term business opportunities for quick summer fun) and further more does it seem crazy to you guys to have “invested” in a boat primarily to run game and party (not doing much “useful” stuff such as fishing or water sports)?
All tips and stories appreciated, especially from DC area bros.

Having lived in DC and spending a lot of time in Gtown I'm not surprised this works. There have been a few occasions when I've been on boats there and its ridiculously easy. If you cant walk into Sequoia or Tony and Joe's and have girls back on the boat w/in 10 minutes you are doing something wrong. That being said, its an expensive and high maintenance way to pull. It would make sense if you had a good group of friends you could split costs with but I wouldnt want to be the dude paying for the boat and all the other expenditures that go with it so my friends could leach off it.

A good idea, and no surprise it works. Much more fun to go on someone's boat than just drink outside at Tony and Joe's. Cheaper too.

Can you write more about the financials of the boat? Upkeep, dock fees, etc? Have you looked at docking it near Annapolis for the winter? Might be cheaper since there's more supply there.

I guess you could also live in it -- plenty of people near Southwest DC live on houseboats by the marina there.

Frequently we see the same players on the boats and acknowledge the competition. Thus my whole point about docking the boat early and in a strategic location. The size of the boat and amenities is pretty important and although I usually don't have any problems in that category it still can be challenging when a 40ft+ boat docks next to mine and has a more mixed crowd on it and a louder party.

Paninaro, good question. It is not a hobby for the timid. I'd say we need to budget around 12% of the boat's value annually to cover additional expenses such as docking fees, insurance, and maintenance. That doesn't even include the high marine diesel fuel costs. So for a 30k boat you're looking at around $3,600.

Yes, Annapolis is cheaper but kind of far by water to sail and not a party destination, so we keep our boat in DC area on the Anacostia river. Living on our boat would not work as it'd be cramped however it is great for an overnight romp
Usually houseboats here are not ideal for sailing and as party locations. Can't even imagine a houseboat docking in Georgetown, it'd look out of place with all the smallish "cigar" boats or the newer sports yachts. Also, only a couple hundred people live in SW DC and to be honest it is not a top location being next to a very busy highway (i395) and next to the fish market which tends to stink. Finally there is a very long waiting list for slips there.

If I had any close friends, i would invest in a boat. It's a dream of mine to own a boat. Heck sailing would be cool too.

@GManifesto - thats Michael Saylor game. The boat in the first pic above is the nicest looking boat you will ever see in Georgetown and he's got a penthouse at the condo on top of the building that Tony & Joe's is at.

The funny thing is I know about Saylor. Never met him, but I have seen him in a picture with a girl I swooped that he took to a charity event or something.

I was looking for some data on her and saw him and looked him up.

Saylor has no game whatsoever. Hes an awkward dweeb. But he's got mad cash and a few friends who love spending his money and using his toys. Never seen Saylor on his own boat in Gtown but its always there.

I briefly dated a smokin Ukrainian girl in DC and Saylor flew her and a few of her friends down on his private jet to his Miami Beach mansion for his July 4 party. Having $500 mil or so certainly opens some doors.

No - Saylor has a few other boats that he keeps, but the two he has in DC/Gtown are as big as you can get and still be able to make it up the Potomac to the Georgetown Waterfront.

Bman, Saylor has another boat in the Mediterranean, called Mr. Terrible at 154feet and $34M it is too big to fit under the 14th street bridge and sail to Gtown waterfront. Funny thing is you can rent both of Saylors "lesser" boats for private parties at around 8k/night. Might explain the huge number of hot chicks on those every weekend summer night and the lack of the host himself. As mentioned before my friend and I try to usually position our 34ft boat as close to his as possible to get the "leftovers" from those private parties. Unfortunately Saylor's hired crew won't allow any of the regular folks to tie up to his yachts

Is there a pussy to dollar ratio metric out there? Something tells me we need to collectively write the book PussyBall/MoneyPussy.

Not to mention, unless there is secret dungeon lair of hot chicks at the Georgetown waterfront that is hidden from the public, the money would probably be better spent on going to other cities. Talent at DC night spots collapsed starting in the summer of 2011.

Saylor doesn't need "game" to get it in on that level. When you're that rich, you have access to top shelf that you never see out at mainstream DC establishments. I gotta give him props for being a billionaire bachelor.
