Now here's something I don't get... isn't the 1-10 scale broad enough, that you don't need the .5 rankings? Why not just go 1-20 then, or Roosh's "1-1000" scale.

Exactly. For example, if one of my friends says a girl is a 4.5. as opposed to 4.0 I know without seeing her that she won't be completely hideous just with some flaw that would typically be a dealbreaker. I would definitely not bang sober and reject 9 times out of ten. While a 5 would be a solid entry level prospect with no shame involved sober or not, but no glory either.

(Although, to be fair, I think 5s involve some shame. I think the shame probably starts to dissipate around 6 for me.)

Nailed it. The longer you dabble in online dating the better you get at spotting a fattie from a head shot. Its a skill that I'm very glad I have. The first girl has a cute face, but there are subtle "issues" that turn me off to her. She had other pics on her profile that corroborated this feeling.

Yeah she's a real cutie, I'd say 8 or even 8.5 if the body is bangin'. I agree with Gmac that if you're going to put the average at 5 then most people here are under-rating some of these so-called nickel pieces by a significant margin. Consider that in the US, 66% of the population is overweight or obese, and suddenly that butterface with the slender body isn't as marginal as you think.

On a 1-to-10 scale, the mean is 5.5, so that 5--i.e., exactly 5--is actually slightly below average.

If you want the mean to be exactly 5, then the scale has to be a 0-to-10 scale. (Which, personally, I'd prefer.)

We cant tell if she is carrying extra weight so im not gonna hold that against her. So just going off her face alone she is cute (not hot) which makes her a 6 by pure definition. At the very least you have to give her a 5.
