There's nothing wrong with displaying success, but I think a lot of guys get caught up in the hype and put the carriage before the horse. Get the success first, then buy the bling. A fancy accessory won't get you laid. Women like shiny things, but they're not as dumb as bass.

A fancy accessory will give them a reason to open you, but its not a guaranteed lay. Game>bling. And I do like my jewelry. I spend a lot of time overseas looking for that one unique piece. They certainly help.

And yeah, West Coast girls are a different breed. But I don't consider that geographical location part of reality.

This is actually a legit topic. It's a question of where the line is for the $30K millionaires and real wealth.

My rule of thumb is that my watch can't be worth more than 1 month of pay. After that you're starting to look like a retard.

I sure would not feel confident in a Patek Phillipe watch unless I was about to sell that shit.

At this point I feel I can rock a decent watch, cufflinks from now on ($50-100 a pop only need maybe 6 pairs) and some slightly nicer shoes. Also redoing some ties to match the new suits since they have to match the lapel or else you look like a dork with bad proportions.

So thoughts on $$$ to drop on a watch without going full retard mode?

Agree 100%. Good point for the thread. I've rubbed shoulders with a lot of rich folks. The ones you want to befriend are those that don't flaunt their money. I spent plenty of time on Wrightsville Beach.

The beauty of Movado is the simplicity. 1K is out of my budget, but they can be had for $400. A great watch to wear with dress shirts due to the slim design. I don't wear anything on my wrist when my cuffs are buttoned though. Drives me crazy. Makes me keep shaking my wrist, which looks like a nervous tick. That is bad.

For sure. Clothing doesn't make the man. It's the opposite. With swag you can make a $10 bracelet look better than a $10K watch. The former comes with a story behind it of travel and adventure, far more interesting than one about walking into a mall and picking up a Rolex.

To me, expensive watches, shoes, and custom suits puts you dangerously close to try hard territory. I get pegged for being famous wearing a $15 H&M shirt and junk jewelry. The boots are they key. If you want to wear a suit, go easy on the accessories, and show rebellion. Don't look like a page out of GQ. Fuck those idiots. If you wear cufflinks, drop the tie. Be a dick and untuck your shirt. Always have a pocket square though. It breaks up the color, and go with cotton, cause those fucking silk ones slide down in your pocket too easy, unless I'm missing something. And go bold with your shirt color. Don't be a pansy, bright is good.

Forget Hollywood and fashion rags. Clear your mind forge your own style, as it'll last forever, and the only way to do that is trial and error. I embarassed myself more than a few times, but learned from the mistakes and it made my clothing choices stronger.

As far as one liners, when a girl asks why I'm not wearing a timepiece, I tell her its not necessary, as I set my own schedule. That shows dominance. Worrying about time means your enslaved to the system. Time reframe and put the world on your clock, or at least the illusion.

This is why I usually don't wear a full suit it'll be custom but the pants don't always match the blazer. If I'm wearing an actual suit I'll go with a V-neck and square etc etc.

I figured accessories help when you're more casual.

Ex: shoes, blazer, slacks, watch, v-neck.

Or

Ex: suit, button down, no tie, cufflink, no watch

Etc etc. I am not about to go out with a suit + links + tie + tie bar + watch + expensive belt + expensive dress shirt. Overkill.

Yea, that was a Lange right? Lange is at the very top of the timepiece hierarchy.

Baume Mercier makes a similar one that is more affordable. Classima like.

Omega also makes an aqua terra that is similar but with a stainless bracelet.

Nomos glachutte makes a couple that are similar as well but they are kind of spendy too.

Westcoast if I were you I'd pretty much only consider Omega and Breitling, maybe a Tag if you really want to penny pinch, but from all your big talk, I'm guessing you're a baller. A nice timepiece should be looked at as an investment into something you will have till you are an old man, and worst case scenario you sell or pawn it if you get into a pinch. Personally I'm an Omega guy, but there are some super tight Breitlings that had me reconsidering, Breitlings do tend to be a bit more expensive though.

If I were you'd I roll down to Tourneau at the Westfield mall, scope which watch you like, roll in there with cash the next time, and bargain them down, the will front like they can't break on price, but they will.

Consider Movado as the wildcard if you don't want to drop loot on an Omega or Breitling, they are about as much as Tags and about equal IMO.

Movados were big maybe 10 years ago. I have one but haven't worn in quite some time. Maybe its time to bust it out again though.

I have found if you don't want to wear a watch, wear SOMETHING on your wrist. I have a few simple leather bands that I wear, don't get them too flashy though or you'll start looking like an aging rockstar. I get a lot of compliments on my Nike Fuel band, interestingly enough. Especially when I'm somewhere and check the time, girls ask me about it, touch it, etc.

@OG Haha thanks for the complement on the baller status. I'm a cheap fuck and usually spend around $3-4K in a given month since I'm planning my escape like the shawshank redemption. I just do everything I can to score decent hook ups.

Movado and Tags are not on the same level. Movados start at 300 USD and all have quartz movements, tags start at 1,500 and most of them have automatic movements.

Scarves are a very good adjunct to your style in the winter. Living in LA however, there are maybe 2 nights per year you would be able to use a scarf, so I have 2-3 of them. I'm a big fan of "The Hill Side" for ties, scarves and pocket squares. They are more casual though but they have somewhat aggressive patterns.

Yeah that's true, Tag is better, I'm just not a big fan compared to Omega or Breitling. There are more expensive Movados that are comparable to Tag though IMO.

I personally don't like Breitlings or Tags. I do like a few of the Omegas, especially the James Bond limited editions (Seamaster and Planet Ocean). For me, my holy grail watches right now are a Bell & Ross on the lower end, then if I'm balling it up I want an IWC.

Well, its never freezing in LA. But there are a few nights when you go to the bar and everyone is trying to out style each other with their "winter wear". Its just a flashy accessory that you can bust out. I was in a colder environment last weekend where I added a scarf to a blazer I was wearing and it made the whole outfit look a lot better.

To me, if you get a light enough one, they'll be like having a tie on or a pocket square if they are fashionable enough.

This is basically the same scarf I have, except its blue with white accents and I wore it like this with a similar jacket and it looked good.
