Yeah I can see that. Probably the same reason why plane tickets to venezuela were $1500 one way when I looked, no one goes there. They have to charge high rates to keep the places running because they get barely any turn over.

I'm interested to see how the trip goes, sounds like a cool experience. Is it the most underdeveloped place you've been? I was watching a documentary on cite du sole (spelling? It's one of the big and supposedly most dangerous slums in PAP) and it looked pretty intense.

There are close to 10,000 United Nations troops and lots of church people. They are spending other peoples money, so this is what drives hotel prices up.

$100 room in Haiti would cost around $25 in the DR. Honestly, I kissed the ground when I got back to the DR.

I want to know the most important thing...Have you hooked up with any girls? What do you think of the girls?

Yeah I've been with two so far. Girls are very shy at first, but not difficult and it seems like there is not tons of lmr. The first girl had THE most gravity defying ass i have ever seen. I'm really enjoying the trip so far, but this place makes DR feel very safe.

Yesterday was a pretty interesting day. Today as well.

Day 3: triple up & death threats

Yesterday I had a date with a girl I met online. We were supposed to meet in front of a hotel in Petionville at 5pm. I arrive half an hour late but when I call her:

But she persisted her story so I thought she could be shorable. Took her number and we left to the next club Barac because I didn't feel like shoring.

The irony will become clear soon.

She as well promises she's not a pro. I do the shoring routine anyway and have her repeat after me "I don't pay for sex", so we bounce back to my hotel, I smash her twice. Then she has to go.

I should have handled it better and maybe things wouldn't have escalted, but I was drunk and this just pissed me off.

Again it's bluff, because she isn't calling anybody. Her final strategy, creating a scene. She starts screaming.

It's embarrassing. A sober part of my brain takes over again, this money isn't even worth the drama. It's so shitty, but it had be going on for a while. It has escalated far enough.

"Here's 1000 pesos, now get the fuck out."

"Give it to me nicely" she says. That was too much, I grab her and remove her from my room.

She leaves, but not without some death threats.

"If I see you again in Barac, you're dead!"

A bitter reminder of the risky business that is shoring, sometimes it goes wron beyond your control and when it does you have to deal with shitty situations like this.



Girl 3 (online game)

I had been mixing beers with my vodka so I wake up at 1 pm with a hangover, my phone is ringing: the girl I flaked on yesterday.

"I'm in Petionville, where are you?"
"I'm in my hotel room", I reply
"Ok, can I come? I'll be there in 10 minutes"

Well, waking up with a hangover is bad but this made it a lot better.

We also checked out a place called Munchezz a few days ago. It's good for having drinks, but it's not really a club.

They are killing and robbing the dominicans more because dominicans have more money and they look rich. The rich people here in Haiti are mullato looking. There is tension between the two countries, but I bet most of those are just because those Dominicans are in the wrong area and look rich. To a person just fighting to stay alive, it will look like an easy target.

In fact THC and I can't leave our hotel tomorrow because it's Haiti's independence day. Because so many people are starving to death, people aren't exactly happy to be haitian. The president is half white and half black and many haitians want him dead. They think that all the Mullato's are living the high life while the 100% blacks are starving to death (which is true) so there will be tons of poor Haitians marching into Petion-ville (where THC and I are) to do manifestations because that's where the most Mullato's (rich people) are living.

I already saw pictures of burning rubble in the street on the facebook of one of my girls here, and independence day hasn't even started.

The problem isn't really the tension between the countries. It's the fact that the average Dominican makes 10,000$ a year and the average Haitian makes 1000$ a year (that's including the elite class so poor people will make less, these places have very little middle class). So when a Haitian sees light skin, whether Dominican, White, or Haitian, they just see all the money that you have, and when your choices are starve to death or attack the light skinned guy over there, things will get shady.

I really think the only order here is done by the UN (you will see armored UN cars driving around with UN guys armed to the teeth). Their police force seems non existent.

That being said, if you stay in the safe areas (much smaller here than anywhere I have ever been) it can be better. I won't say safe, because this place obviously just isn't a safe country, but if you are an experienced traveler and you do the research you should be able to stay out of trouble.
