j r are you even reading anything I post or just reflexively getting mad?

I said nothing about you or any black posters here. I am talking about the black community and black leaders.

You never hear the black community coming together to address the issue of violence committed by young, black men. Instead, the issue is always about how blacks are victims.

Anyway, there is no point continuing this discussion. I just saw speakeasy's new post as well. Obviously we just disagree on this and it's very difficult for us to see eye to eye. I can't pretend to understand the black experience and neither of you can understand what it's like to be white and look at this from the outside. Always the problem with racial discussions and why they are so fruitless.

First, exhibit A:



Crime peaked in 1991, and only started to decline after 1996. What else happened in 1996? A Democratic candidate was Mayor of DC, his name was Marion Barry.

Samseau, the decline in crime was not limited to DC and NYC, it was a nationwide phenomena. So if you want to understand what brought about this change, we need to look at it from macro perspective. Marion Barry does not explain what caused crime to plunge in Los Angeles as well during the same era. It continues to fall even now out here. There was even a report a few weeks ago that L.A. went for 9 days without a single murder. Which is impressive for any city with over 10 million people.

These days conservatives are just as likely to practice political correctness and identity politics as progressives. The only difference is that progressives cater to women and minorities and conservatives cater to angry white guys. I've said this before but Trayvon Martin paid for the sins of perception by the aggregate of events like this. People celebrate black youth death, as seen in the Trayvon costumes as well as the general comments on his death, but that's because they transfer the degenerative characteristics displayed by these kids onto ALL kids of the same hue, and attire.



And as you can see in this Facebook comment...people are connecting "Trayvon" to these youths...as to say "you see there, this is what Trayvon represents...and if we can't kill those exact youths, we can at least kill their representation"

But Trayvon wasn't killed for hitting people, he wasn't supsended from school for being violent, he may of smoked weed (like a lot of forum members probably) but his main crime is LOOKING like, or better yet, REPRESENTING the youth above. This event may not have happened, but there are countless events that are crime related with the main culprit being "young black male"

Us as progressives try to separate events like these from Trayvon Martin but they can't be....because people from other cultures see Trayvon in these youths and say "whats the difference?". Zimmerman was found not guilty because of events like this. Do you think Zimmerman would of been found not guilty if he killed an Asian/White kid who attempted to run first to allude his stalker and then decided to fight back and then was murdered for winning the fight? No...because in those cases the White/Asian kid is not carrying the entire stereotype of out of control and dangerous youth with them, like Trayvon did.

And this event will sit in the subconscious mind of America until another Trayvon like event happens just for it to be justified with this memory.

SpeakEasy I agree with everything you said....but Scorpion is right...until leaders of note (which unfortunately include fucktards like Sharpton and Jackson) stand up against these events and other events like black on black crime then his responses will have validity to most of America, whether he's correct or not in his assessment....they find validity in his sentiment.

But events like this knockout game hurt us all, because WE as young black men pay the price socially for their actions... Because authority figures see this as a cultural problem & just sharing the same color as them immediately makes you guilty because it's our culture that bred this behavior somehow.

The US has never really progressed with race relations. There have been efforts to redress the past and civil rights of course. At baseline, there's always been tension between black/white on a macroscopic scale. Trayvon Martin proved that. Even with Obama as president, during the Zimmerman trial the US looked like it had reverted back to Jim Crowe days in terms of public opinion. Same with OJ.

You instantly knew where most blacks stood, and most whites stood.

Zimmerman wasn't even full white and looked obviously Hispanic (but Hispanic via his mother's side). If his name was Hernandez this never would have gone beyond regional news.

I agree with you on the bolded part. When I first heard of the story I said he was guilty of manslaughter, but not murder. What I will say is that when I was in Miami, the one thing I was told by the OGs is that I don't need to worry about them, but I should watch my back around the young kids. When you look at the violent crime, it's mostly them that are involved. They are out to prove that they are hard. Trayvon could have just as easily kept walking instead of attacking Zimmerman.

Liz Carnell, the director of Bullying Online, a Yorkshire-based charity set up to combat bullying in schools, said that since the start of the year she has heard of increasing attacks both on children and on adults. But she fears many incidents are not reported.

"In most cases the worst that happens is a minor scratch or a bruised ego," she said.

"What the people behind these attacks have to understand is that technically they are committing an assault. And if they then upload the images on to the internet or a phone system they could be prosecuted for harassment."

What makes the attacks all the more bewildering is that many victims do not realise they have been happy slapped until after the event.

Earlier this month James Silver, 34, a freelance journalist, was attacked while jogging on the South Bank in London. While one youth blocked his path, another hit him with a rolled-up magazine.

When he spun around another teenager - who had been hiding behind nearby scaffolding - leapt out and hit him hard in the head. When he staggered to his feet he noticed the rest of the gang were jeering and pointing their mobile phones at him.

Silver admits that while the attack left his "ego smarting" he did not think it worth reporting. "At the end of the day I was unharmed but it was pretty shocking at the time," he said. "The worry is that while the bulk of the attacks are trivial, some of these youths could be carrying knives."

Earlier this year, schools in Lewisham, south London, and St Albans banned camera phones because of worries that the fad was leading to an increase in playground bullying.
