Is a carreer in medicine beta, should i ditch everything and become a playboy
Before I begin, I must congratulate you all. All of you newbies and vet's a like have been a source of inspiration for me. Regarding my situation...

Stats

age: 22
height: 1.78 cm
Weight: 91 kg (weight before discovering game, 9 months ago 117)
saving: non existent
estimated final debt from school: 15,000 k

I go to one of the top medical schools in Mexico and I'm currently in my 5 year, I only have 2 more years before i finish school and become a licensed physician. However I have been having second thoughts about a career in medicine. Everywhere I go all the physicians seem to be incredibly lame and out of shape, miserable and without any free time. I have taken two long trips two europe (one in EE and other in WE) before and even though I didnt bang any girls for free. I had a couple of make outs and lost my v card with a few prostitutes. These trips I think they have fundamentally changed me, and my values. Seeing you guys travelling and banging hotties, I wonder if its worth it to do a specialty (medical residency), the wages (scholarship) here are miserable like 2-3 usd/hour, seeing at least 90 hrs week. I feel like I would always have that nagging sensation that I would be rather doing 10 approaches and going to the gym than taking care of some stupid ignorant bitch who smokes crack during pregnancy.

Have you been in a situation like this before, a promising career waiting to be ditched to be a player. Every day that passes I feel less and less in place with the doctors. I don't wanna wake up one day miserable because i didnt got all the girls that I deserved for being a doctor. I realize now that nobody deserves anything I must work for those girls, my contemporaries here in med school dont seem to realize that.

I'm thinking about being location independent after med school, I don't know how feasible it is. I must research more. But my heart feels like somewhere is calling...maybe russia.

If any of you is a doctor please give me some hope, that one can be a player and physician. A true man. Because the doctors that I see have been absorbed by the paperwork and the long hours.

I'm not a doctor, but I know enough to know that being a doctor isn't a job. It's a career path. What I mean is that there are lots of jobs that you can do with an MD. Why not pick your specialty based on where you want to end up?

Want to troll the third world for easy play? Be an ER doctor or do public health. Want to roll with the jet set on the French Riviera? Plastic surgery or dermatology. And of course, medical tourism is going to be big as people try to stretch their first world dollars by going to countries with cheap but reputable health care. Go into orthopedics and start doing hip replacements in Central America or the Philippines.

Heck, you don't even have to practice. You could spend a few years learning your trade and then set yourself up as an medical entrepreneur or consultant. A solid skill and the willingness to go wherever there is opportunity is the winning combination of the future.

What makes you think playboys have to ditch everything? Finish medical school. If you are making good money as a doctor, you can take regular vacations to EE or Asia or south america if that is what interests you.

RE: Is a carreer in medicine beta, should i ditch everything and become a playboy
One of the most "alpha" dudes I have ever met was a doctor from Egypt. We were having a lunch meeting at a Thai restaurant discussing how we were going to get him a job (he'd been doing fill-in work for a few Dr.s but wanted something full time). Mid sentence he excused himself to go approach a solid 8 that was alone at the bar. He got rejected (engaged), but you could tell he didn't care. He was the only client that I was actually happy to be meeting up with. Of course he fucked us over when we got him an interview and he didn't show because he didn't think he would get the job. Fortunately, the interview we got him was with a business partner. All we got was a tongue lashing, but no irreparable damage was done to the relationship.

tl;dr Alpha is a mindset, not a job/career. It would be foolish to drop out so close to the finish line. If you learn even the slightest amount of game you will slay the pussy that will come your way just from that fact that you are a doctor.

Finish school. You'll be only 24yo and will have options. When you're this close it's foolish to toss it to the side.

That being said, I had a full ride scholarship to a Top 25 Law School and turned it down, because I didn't actually desire that career path.

Life is short. Pick a career you actually WANT to do; not one you feel like you HAVE to do.

You're going to have to explain in detail how the medical school system works in Mexico before any of us can give you a good reasoned opinion.

Is medicine an undergrad or postgrad degree in Mexico? Do you have to do a generalised or specialised internship? Is overtime compulsory? Do you have to specialise or can you drop out early to be a generalist?

Are you in debt right now? If you finish school with debt, how quickly will you be able to pay it off?

How difficult in Mexico is it to get into clinical streams that are ultimately lifestyle friendly i.e. anaesthesiology, dermatology, family medicine, emergency medicine?

Also, have you contacted any doctors who are not in the clinical meatgrinder? There are doctor desk jockeys who work for insurance companies, universities and pharmaceutical companies, and if you network your way in these companies may be willing to hire you the moment you graduate (therefore no need for residency).

If you quit medicine, what other skills do you have or are you willing to develop, and how will you survive until you get steady income?

Give us some more specifics and maybe we can give you some advice.

Man, you can't quit now, you are almost 75% done. If you quit now you will regret it the rest of your life. When you finish it you will have so many options and you will be able to relocate and travel as you please because you have an education and career that will always be in demand anywhere in the world.

Chase girls in the antros on the weekends and in your free time but don't abandon your mission for these stupid bitches.

BTW: are you in DF?

Do not quit.

We understand that you must pay your dues and that you don't have time to game now. There is no shame in what you are doing now.

Just remember to not get a girl pregnant or marry one. When your making some good money you can come back and write a memoir about how girls throw them lives at doctors..

Jose, I'm from Mexico too. You are right that average hourly wages absolutely suck in Mexico for most medical specialties if you have less than 10 years experience.

That means you will NOT be making serious money before you are 35-38. I can confirm this from 4 friends of mine who are doctors. I do not think anyone could be a doctor without really loving the career path. I mean, that you are fully convinced it will be your life path. Otherwise, the pay and long hours will decimate you.

As for the physicians to seem to be incredibly lame and out of shape, miserable and without any free time, well the part about free time is absolutely true. However, you choose to become a fat alcoholic. I knew a doctor who did body-pump classes for one hour per day. He told us that it was his escape for stress, and he was alpha and ripped; instead of being part of the binge-drinking groups many doctors become after each guard finishes.

It is your choice to be alpha or beta, regardless of your profession.

Thanks again men

To answer your questions, medicine is a 6 year undergrad with 1 year of absoulute compulsory social service. I do not have a to do specialization but the wages for a generalist rank from 400-1000 usd if you are very lucky. Yes I'm in debt right now.

I haven't contacted any doctors yet, and I'm hesitant to ask for advice in my school because non of the professors seems like an appropriate role model (girls and game wise).

My friend mexico is very different from the US. Anesthesia has horrible hours and wages during and after residency. Almost all the specializations that you mention do. I was considering the possibility of working as a technical medical writer, does anyone has any experience in that field. I also happen to speak B2 level german, I don't know if that is useful.

Look at Dr Oz: would anyone listen to this maniac if he was just Mr. Oz?

Use your future Physician credentials to advertise, right? Get rich selling a revolutionary new healthy living regime of juicing, coconut oil, zinc and baking soda on Mexican TV. On top of being an alumni of a Top Med school you have the RVF braintrust to advise on 'holistic' remedies.

Will your national service also include emergency medicine rotations? Can it possibly include emergency medicine/icu rotations?

If you can get a few months in of ER/ICU, then even if you are a generalist, you will probably be able to work on cruise ships. They need generalists with a touch of intensivist experience. You could maybe just do a one year ''residency'' in ER just to get the right background.

$10 000 per month for sitting on a boat for 8 months. Then you have 4 months to do whatever you feel like till your next tour of duty. I've met docs that have done this, it's lucrative (if a bit lonely, because you don't make any stable relationships).

If you don't mind taking a bad paycut, you can also become a botox doctor on a cruise ship. You won't earn as much but all you need is a botox certificate.

Other options include: working in medical sales for Big Pharma (this kind of job is not advertised, you HAVE to network your way in), working for health insurance companies (You stay near the USA. Did you know they need doctors to review cases for insurance approval? And these doctors don't even need to be licensed. I know an American lady who studied medicine in South Africa, went to the USA, failed her USMLE exams, and ended up working reviewing medical cases for a Texas based health insurance company)

You can also follow the option I took, which is to network into a job in academia. If you're not afraid of paperwork and want to develop some public speaking skills, it's an option. Obviously you can't lecture in a speciality but family medicine or basic medical sciences may take a generalist.

Another option: go straight for generalist licencing, don't go to residency. Try and arrange a part-time job as a doctor just to have some income coming, and then with your other hours hustle an online writing gig.

I agree that residency doesn't sound worth it (it's why I haven't bothered, I'm just a generalist). But there are other avenues you can take your medical degree into that are not so obvious at first glance. You will have to fight your way into them, though, no one is going to make it obvious for you.

What's wrong with you?

The idea of a job you love and dream of is pretty much wistful thinking. View your job as a means to an end and do whatever the fuck you want to do outside it.

The way things are going there just aren't enough jobs for the number of people worldwide, The number of stable jobs with an active social life is even less.

Finish you're degree, work you're ass of for 10 years and you'll be set to retire or work at your own pace.

Wow thank you for answering and for your insight.

My school program has a 1 month er rotation. I have 3 months of electives which can be easily arranged into an ICU/ER rotation. And I believe the compulsory social service can be arranged to be done in some er, instead of some god forgotten shithole (although is not that easy). I have considered the cruise ship route, however the last time I checked all of the jobs asked for a residency in internal medicine or EM plus 3 years of post grad experience. And the pay was all not that good it was like 4-8k, which admittedly is a lot for me but is not as closed as the 10k you mentioned. Do you happen to know personally any generalist that has gotten a cruise ship gig, do you know where can I research more accurately? I don't mind the loneliness and lack of relations. Althought to be fair is not like I have many right now.

The botox idea, hadn't crossed my mind., do you think you could provide more insight about this. How's the salary? Is the accrediation process for non US non EU doctor difficult?

I must clarify that as time passes I have become a little bit more cynical and starting to view the job as a means to an end, or just a hobby. I do like medicine and have absolutely love the science I went to Houston to do some research last year. But the call for travel is something that I do not seem to shake from me.

Thomas do you mind me asking what is specifically what you do?

Thank you and all for being so concerned about helping. I would gladly buy you a beer or spirit of your choice, have we ever meet.

RE: Is a carreer in medicine beta, should i ditch everything and become a playboy
Cruise ship doc requirements vary from fleet to fleet, but in general they want ER/ICU experience and family medicine experience for 3 years in total, and if you are qualified to practice in your county they'll take your experience as being 'equivalent' to a board residency.

I was tempted to go the cruise ship route, because although I'm a generalist I do have a strong emergency medicine background and the recruiter told me he was sure he could get me a job (at that time, though, I was tired of responsibility and adrenaline and I decided not to go through with it. You can have some serious cases out at sea eg. broken necks, heart attacks, etc and guess what YOU ARE ALONE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE OCEAN, so it's up to you and only you to do some crazy shit. I've done enough crazy shit in medicine and at the time I didn't care for it anymore, but that's another story.)

I suggest you double check the requirements for being a cruise ship doc and compare the different fleets. You will still need work experience, but if you want to work very hard, earn lots of money, and then retire early, you can do that as a cruise ship doc (remember, you're not paying for rent and meals while you are working).

Try and find recruiters who work for the cruise ship industry and ask them about requirements. You need to find people in Mexico to talk to. Since I don't know Mexico, I won't be able to advise you further.

As for Botox in general, you will need to check your local requirements. In South Africa you do a 5 day course and then you can do basic Botox treatments. Some doctors in South Africa are basically now only doing Botox, it's more lucrative and less stressful than medicine.

As for cruise ship botox, you'll need to google around, but there's a plastic surgeon in the USA who owns a chain of botox facilities on cruise ships, he trains you himself and then you're good to go. You have to foot the travel costs, though. You'll have to develop some sales skills though, because on slow days you might want to go and sell your botox service (I believe it's on a comission basis - no patients, no pay).

As for what I do, I'm a part-time generalist, part-time in academia at the moment. One foot in the ivory tower, one foot in the real world. It's interesting.

NO

Your job will become very important. You may be poor and being the b!tch of the medical establishment but I predict a swing back to the times when men were valued by their jobs.

I know you're in Mexico, but keep working on that medical career. It is a sure fire way to a steady life and income.

Now, you're here because game is equally important. What good is a career with a women that hates you?

Keep working on both as separate but equal hobbies of interest. You esteem to be the best man you can be. Work on yourself and the rewards of hard work (women, money, prestige, power) will come to you.

Your career in medicine is not beta.
