I was watching a show recently with Steve Wynn about Wynn Resorts.

They asked him, "In all your years, have you ever known anyone to win big in your casinos, and walk away never to give the money back?"

Wynn thought about it for a while then replied, "No. Not once."

That really tells you something, especially since it would benefit him more to respond in the opposite.

Winning some small event in the WSOP doesn´t mean much, in fact even guys who win big events for a few hundred thousand often end up giving most of it back to us real players in cash games. Big tournaments are mostly crapshoots, I know more than a few guys who won big tournaments and ended up donating large portions of it back once they thought they were proven superstars. To those who think it isn´t profitable, I´ve had my first losing month in years just two months ago, and a big reason for that was because i only played about 20 hours that month. Though to be fair, there aren´t many players who have the same favorable conditions I do.

Another thing I can say is that you can easilly live just off of casino gambling. You might not get rich, but it is easy to get comped rooms and free meals. In fact, when I was living in the U.S., any time I stepped foot into A.C. or Vegas I would get a comped room for the weekend. In A.C., you can probably live most of the year for free in casinos, as long as you break even, that takes care of your rent expense right there. Watch the movie Hard Eight for a better idea of how to grind out a living in casinos, it´s a realistic portrayal.

If you're not making a profit what's the point? Spending all year breaking even in a casino just for them to give you free meals and a bed seems a bit pointless. Ok so you've no rent but if you only broke even you've also no spending money unless you've got a load of money in the bank. Chances are you won't break even anyway because as always the house edge is in the casinos favour. You can only lose gambling that's why there's no poor casino owners or bookmakers.

You have to treat it just like any other job. Go in with the mindset of making a certain amount of money everyday. Just figure out a strategy to do it. The comps that come along are just a bonus.

I was just giving an example of some of the ways you can earn a living gambling, ideally you obviously make money playing as well, and there´s lot of ways to do so. Poker is the best though because the house will never blackball you no matter how much you make.

Glassjawed, Would you say that you are the exception to the rule or are is it realistic to carry out a similar lifestyle? I think it's great that you've done well (badass really), but we know nothing about this guy other than he went to a game forum to ask about gambling prospects.
His experience, hours played, overall winnings vs losses. Startup capital...all unknown as far as I've read....For all we know, he's 18 and just saw Rounders...

I'm not a dream killer but when younger guys say "I want to be an MMA fighter", I say "unless you have at least 10 years of grappling/wrestling experience at a high level, you should forget it". That is a hard fact.

You can treat it however you like, have the most positive mindset, aim to make even just a small amount of money daily and work out whatever strategies you like and it still won't matter. There is absolutely no way, without cheating, for you to gain an edge over the house at casino games.

Your only option is to go bonus hunting online like I explained earlier. Probably too much work for you though right? You just want to rock up to the casino every day, act like a high roller, get comped and bonuses and walk away with profit every day. It's a dream and it will never happen.

I've always done well playing craps. I think I'll stick with that for now and spend some time learning poker as it seems to be the focus of this thread now.

Problem is that I have rent and child support to pay and need the steady income stream from my day job. I do ok. I'm an Engineer by profession.

My only free time to gamble is every other weekend. AC is a 3 hour drive for me as well.

If I could make $1000 each trip to AC I would be good. Build up a decent bankroll of cash winnings over time and take the plunge of moving down there.

I can only dream for now.

I have a friend who is like Rain Man, except more functional. So functional that he's an M.D. He sees patterns and shit that the rest of us never will. He composes classical music without having a lick of music reading ability. He counts cards, and was a professional gambler for a long time. Even he couldn't win, long term. The swings kill you. With him, it was 100k up, 100k down. Maybe more, but that's as much as I know. Although, he does live and work in AC now because he is still compelled to gamble. But he works full time as a doctor.

With poker, you'll only win as much as your competition is weak. There are a ton of professional poker players in AC. Its hard to make a living when you are competing against them.

I started out the same way. To be honest, I´m extremely good at what I do and I always have been from the beginning to the point where everyone around me recognized it. However, it shouldn´t be too difficult for someone to make mid 5 figures within a year or two with hard study, dedication, and some talent. The only thing is some people get dragged into an unhealthy and unbalanced lifestyle so you need a lot of self control.

Blackjack, Craps, Roulette, Slot Machines, and lots of card games with dealers are all potentially exploitable, especially in smaller casinos outside of the big cities, and no, I won´t tell you how. If people are really interested, you can do some research for examples.

I can´t say how hard it is for the average joe, but most of the decent online winning players I know kill it in AC playing live even at the highest limits because the competition is so soft even among the live pros.

That's kinda what I'm looking for too.

Something like ...I play poker. I usually go with X amount of money. I play Y number of hours per day. I play a certain way. And I make Z amount of dollars.

A simple starting point description that we can ask more detailed questions on.

To give one example, with a lot of practice you can learn to roll dice a certain way to control the outcome to a profitable extent, even on a long craps table. They´re on top of this in Vegas but it´s still doable in other parts of the world or underground clubs. This isn´t cheating in the legal sense.

Also, any time a dealer has a role in the game where if you have a read on them, you can adjust your decisions, such as if they look for blackjack, you may be able to do just that. Often dealers lift or throw out cards too high, etc.

That´s just some examples of clean ways to go about it. There are a lot of dirtier ways.

You need to learn fast that there is no formula like this.

Seeing as you will already have placed your bet and made your decisions before the dealer even knows he has BJ this will not be any good. Looking for the odd exposed card would work but would take a lot of patience and isn't a long term plan to being a profitable pro gambler.

This thread is so ridiculous. Math says you can't win at casino games. (the one post about taking advantage of bonuses at online casinos is legit but you are LOSING at the gambling but the bonus money they give you compensates for that and then some so it becomes slightly profitable)

You can make a living playing poker but it takes a special skill-set and a lot more work than you think. If u want an accurate portrayal of what its like to play online poker professionally, then download "A Kid's Game: The Story of Online Poker" off of a torrent site. This thread is pretty ridiculous but fuck it, Im bored and game.

Mac I played poker for a living for 2 and a half years and Im telling you now its nowhere NEAR as easy or as glamorous as it sounds, its a fucking grind. You say well Ill just get up X and then Ill leave but its not always that easy. There were days Id be stuck a grand or so quick and then sitting there for LITERALLY 36 hours straight grinding out my profits. The hours you end up keeping and the lifestyle will be an absolute trainwreck on your body, I gained about 50 lbs in the 2 plus years playing and I was definitely not the exception as I watched alot of the guys I knew deteriorate in the same manner. Someone also mentioned going broke, you will, every poker player does. Then your borrowing money from other players you know and scrambling to pay them off. My man Fisto mentioned a dude he knows that won a bracelet one of the guys I came up playing with won the WPT championship for 2.5 million and all of that shit is gone. When I go and recreationally play now and see some of the guys from my days in there grinding they look like fucking hell and out of the 40 or so guys I know that play for a living only 2 of them are well off financially and only 1 of those 2 doesnt look 10 years older than he is. Do some people become successful gamblers yes they do but the people who dont outweigh the people that do by an absolutely astounding amount.

I went off there for a bit but if youve got any specific questions as far as what you need to start and what you need to do Id be more than happy to help. At the end of my 2.5 years I was a MODERATE winner which means I had my bills paid and had some spending money but I was nowhere living a lavish lifestyle and youre worried about spending money because you never know when youre going to need to add it to your bankroll.
