Expats -Barranquilla, Cartagena and Medellin
Hey guys,
I'm going to be in Barranquilla at the end of August. Will be in Colombia for 2 weeks....so will also visit Medellin for a handful of days.
I'm lining some things up with ladies there via ColombianCupid, Tagged etc. before I arrive. Most of them early to mid 20s.
But, I don't want to completely rely on them or their company to have fun on this trip. First time heading out there.
Anyone gonna be in BAQ or Medellin last week of August and first week of Sept??

Good luck man, the general consensus on this forum is that Colombia isn't the greatest place for a two week trip if you plan on banging lots of women, don't expect any one night stands, if you end up with 2-3 bangs, consider that a job well done. Let us know how it goes anyway.

God damned them all, I was told we'd cruise the seas for American gold, we'd fire no guns-shed no tears, now I'm a broken man on a Halifax pier, the last of Barrett's privateers!

Haha, Yes I was just reading that thread you linked to before posting.
It was a tough call between Colombia and somewhere in SE Asia.
But I pulled the trigger on tickets to Colombia after getting some heated attention off the dating sites.
Plus, I have some warm friendly connections here in my hometown that are from those various cities....and they were good salespeople for their country.
One of them was my second Colombian flag and she sealed by belaboring how much the chicas would love me.
But I do have tempered expectations. I've experienced the flakiness even before stepping on a plane.
Thanks for the reply. Will follow up for better or worse.

I was gonna say the same thing as scotian before I even read what he said. If your object is to meet people and bang the locals, you really should be sticking to one city for the two weeks. If your goal is to see as much as possible but not really get to know anywhere, I guess your decision is good. Colombia though is really the type of place you need time in. Even one month in Medellin, I was just starting to feel like I was getting the gist of the place.

I respect you guys opinions.
My schedule is not set in stone. But maybe I'll skip Medellin and stick to BAQ or Cartagena now that you mention it....and jump ship if things get stagnate.

Hmmm... If anything I would personally skip Cartagena from what others have told me, but that's just me.

RE: Expats -Barranquilla, Cartagena and Medellin
Although the Paisas are notoriously flakey and the reputation of most gringos has been ruined in Medellin, I'd still rather spend time there than the coast if banging women and partying was my primary objective, although neither region is that great for a two week holiday. Cartagena is uncomfortably hot and a shit hole outside of the old city, Barranquilla is an industrial shit hole and I'd only go there during carnaval (I'd did and dropped a data sheet on it), I know 20nation would argue with me as he killed it there, but it still took him a few weeks to find his groove there. Santa Marta is ok for a day or two but I'd only recommend going there if you're planning on hitting up parque Tayrona or going diving in Taganga. Basically the Caribbean coast is over hyped, the women are the least attractive in the country and the beaches aren't that nice, unless you take a boat to one of the islands. I went to playa blanca from Cartagena for a day and it was very nice but I wouldn't stay there because its a bit to rustic and undeveloped for my liking.

OP, how is your Spanish and do you dance? These are pretty big factors as has been said time and time again on this forum. Have you ever been to Colombia and are you experienced traveling in the third world?

I wouldn't have too much faith in the warm responses that you're getting online, I don't mean to be a downer but I've seen guys go down there who have game, dress well, are very tall and handsome and still didn't do very well due to a lack of Spanish, although they pipelined hard and had multiple girls lined up all over the place.

RE: Expats -Barranquilla, Cartagena and Medellin
I was aware that having deficiencies in dancing and Spanish would hurt me....but I gotta try haha.
My Spanish is basic, I think...but I can convey complex things sometimes. Dancing is limited, but I have been practicing with a Costena in my city the past few weeks. Also practicing my Spanish with her. She's thrilled to help me and offered to hook me up with her friends in BAQ should I fail to meet anyone down there. Note, I'm not necessarily looking to rack up as many notches as possible. With my second flag here in my city, there was a near complete language barrier....but it was a fun challenge. Trying to get mildly competent in dancing and will use G's Salsa swoop technique.
Have never been to Colombia, but have been to some third world non tourist areas of Mexico (and the scariest fucking From Duck-till-Dawn-like strip joints...granted I was rolling with fluent Spanish speakers those times)
First solo expedition here
I actually prefer some mild grit and culture shock. Seeing a Hilton, giant neon green margaritas and many gringos like myself does not sound like fun at all.
BAQ seemed to ding many of the points I'm looking for. Not touristy, darker skin girls, a few built in friendly connections etc.

I trust what you say about the online thing. I thought a had a sure thing pipelined. She was blowing my phone up the past few weeks, skyping me everyday, asking if i was gonna meet her fam, pick me up from airport etc....then went completely cold and vanished.
Scotian, yes If I hook up with a couple of costenas like you mentioned and have some fun parties it'll be a success for sure.

Sounds good man, you'll have a good time and an interesting experience, colombians are pretty cool and very friendly, you definitely won't have a hard time finding a party. I recommend reading 20nation's Barranquilla data sheet and if you're going to work the online angle, which is a legit option, check out 20nation's internet dating tips. I traveled with him in Barranquilla and in Asia and the guy knows what he's talking about. Keep practicing the Spanish and dancing as much as possible, the better you are at those things, the more you'll enjoy your trip to Colombia, guaranteed.

RE: Expats -Barranquilla, Cartagena and Medellin
I've been to Bogota for a few days, Medellin for about 4 weeks, then Cartagena less than a week.

If I had to choose on city for a couple of weeks, Bogota would be my first choice, Medellin second, but maybe that's because I was so tired by the time I made it to Cartagena that I didn't really try hard to game any chicks and was looking forward to my flight back.

Swooped in Bogota and Medellin. Took me much more effort to do it in Medellin than in Bogota, though that could have been just random.

For online dating, I would recommend Colombian Cupid.

Scotian - Awesome, thanks for that 20Nation internet dating link....That. Is. Gold.

Brodiaga - Yes, ColombianCupid is where I'm getting pretty good replies....now comes the hard part...converting them into sales.

RE: Expats -Barranquilla, Cartagena and Medellin
I forgot to update this and will give a more complete debriefing later. But the Colombia trip was awesome. Technically I already have 2 Colombian flags, but I didn't count them because they weren't in Colombia. But on this trip I met 4 girls off Colombian Cupid and was able to close 1. I had a few street pickups where I got numbers completely in Spanish (It was brutal, my Spanish wasn't good, but once I opened a girl...they would basically number close me.)
I hit Barranquilla for most of the trip.
I ingratiated myself pretty quick with some cute girls and their friends thanks to a local friend from there connecting me with people. I found many parties and hit up fun clubs like Frog Legs. When one girl asked me if I could dance I said not really...show me...like I learned from The Salsa Swoop move posted. We got into it and I guess I danced well enough where she called me a liar. But it was hot and all those girls are fierce out there.
In short, for now, 2 weeks I did pretty well. The girls in Quilla are incredible. I love the city...very rough around the edges....good energy.
I would kill it there with more time I believe...especially since I built a decent network of friends while there.
I didn't have a great gringo advantage....many of the people I met there said they wouldn't have known I was not Colombian if I had not opened my mouth. This surprised me. Many assumed I might be from Bogota due to my fair skin. But when girls did find out...it helped. They said my funny Spanish was endearing. Had a few run ins with police...getting pulled over once and another stopped in the streets drinking....but they were all super polite and once they found out I was from the States...shook my hand and sent me on my way. My bad Spanish helped in this case also. In addition....Hit up Lleras with a new amigo...he showed me all of Medellin. El centro and more.
The biggest thing I learned is that my regular states game failed dramatically here.
These girls want to be wooed...in fact one helped me out and told me....a Colombian girl wants to be conquered with your words. The shit that makes THEM melt would have an American girl rolling her eyes at you.
That's it for now.
Peace

Smooth, I think you are the first person who reported back using The Salsa Swoop Move.

Jesus.

I think I am the only person in the history of Colombia to not get any advantage from being from America.

Glad to hear that you had a good time in Colombia RSDar, I'm gonna hit up the Caribbean coast for a couple of weeks in the new year and one event that I'm looking into is this three day electronic music festival called Summer Land. I'm not that big into electronic music but I imagine that it would be a good party, any of you guys know these artists? NERVO, Sultan + Ned Shepard, Jochen Miller, Antoine Clamaran, David Tort, Cedric Gervais, Nicky Romero y Armin van Buuren. Its on the weekend of January 3-5.
