I recently graduated with a degree in engineering and having a hard time finding a job. I was wondering if any of you guys had any job finding tips. Thanks

Man just apply everywhere you can possibly think of. Even if it's not exactly what you studied or envisioned. Just do whatever you can to start getting an income stream.

The problem with many grads is that they feel entitled to a dope paying job just because they have a degree.

Try to find something related for now, get some solid experience and don't let the hunger for something better go away.

Tell all your friends, relatives, neighbors, and everyone else that you're looking for a job in X field.

Most young people I know out of college who got jobs got them through some kind of hookup.

Out of college I was working part time for a long time, I would always tell people I was looking for work.

A friend of a friend recommended I apply to his company when they were hiring a number of new people. Worked out for me and I was hired, but I would have never even heard of the opportunity if not for just letting lots of people know I was looking for work. The company didn't even advertise the position or anything, but with friends of employees getting the word, there were a ton of applicants.

My uncle is an Engineer and he currently works for a company in Guadalajara, Mexico. He tells me that there are a lot of people with different ethnic backgrounds and how his boss is Irish, etc. Honestly, if you're into Latinas you should do your research on Guadalajara if it's something you'd like (the job/girls).

Here are some basic wikipedia facts on GDL:
- 10th most populous city in Latin America
- Mexico's 2nd most populous municipality

- The city is named after the Spanish city of Guadalajara, which came from the Andalusian Arabic name wād(i) l-ḥijāra (واد الحجارة or وادي الحجارة), the literal translation of the Iberian Arriaca, meaning "river/valley of stones"

- In 2007, a report in fDi magazine pointed to research showing that Guadalajara was the highest-ranking major Mexican city. The report went on to note that Guadalajara has the second strongest economic potential of any major North American city, only Chicago scored more highly for sheer economic potential

- The same research noted the Guadalajara as the "city of the future" due to its youthful population, low unemployment and large number of recent foreign investment deals, it was also found the third most business-friendly city in North America.

The city itself is old, dating back to the 1500's as you will/can see from the old chapels, etc. The women are amazing, of course you'll see your fair share of bad looking women but you'll also see the beautiful ones as well.

Bonus Note - MEXICO IS #1 IN THE OBESITY RANKINGS, NEXT TO THE U.S.A thought I'd get that off my chest. Obviously, the good looking girls who aren't chubby will be easy to spot if you go to any of the major malls, usually those will be the ones with wealthy parents/well-off parents.

I'm having an ass of a time finding a job with a physics and math degree. Gonna apply in a few months to engineering school and get an actual engineering degree. Good luck man.

You can easily find high paying jobs. If you can't find any in the DC area. Think about relocating. Up north in BC or Alberta. They pay incredibly well too. You could make at least $5000 a month

If you strike out with grad school you could come teach physics or math in China for a year and make $3,000 a month with only a few overhead expenses. Housing is paid, food is cheap, and you don't need a car. A ride on the Shanghai subway is $0.66.

Some jobs pay over $4,000. Don't pay attention to the requirements for experience or a teaching license. If you get yourself here, you can get a good paying job.

DC area? You want a job in your field or a job? If just a job, go work at the USPTO (assuming you are a citizen). Maybe 75k or so to start, can advance reasonably fast. After 1 year you can work from anywhere in the country without going in to work.

Look for jobs in the San Francisco, Bay Area. There are always tons of job openings for engineers.

Menace, its worth a try, but with across the board improvements (rated #5 out of 200+ by employees for all federal agencies for 2012) and the severe over-supply of lawyers (who are seeking employment), the USPTO has become incredibly selective. If you have an EE degree, you have the best chance.

Start looking up ,calling, visiting, and networking with welding, machine and fabrication shops let them know you're a new engineer trying to gain experience and ask if they are looking for a laborer or shop helper. These places all work with engineering firms and I'm sure you'll get some opportunities and enough practical knowledge to slay other new engineers with your resume if you stick out the low pay, moderate danger and stay interested.

Like other professional fields, if you learn to do the work that is 'beneath' the professionals the people that hire for the work will respect you for it: See also logging/forestry, business owner/tax professional, bodybuilder/personal trainer, PUA/PUA blogger

You probably will have to consider other areas of the USA. The DC area is more suited for computer science majors.

I actually applied to USPTO and I havent heard back from them yet. I got to a certain stage of the process and stilll waiting to hear from them.

I have no problem moving out the area, but I am still having trouble finding work.
