It is amazing to me that everyone automatically assumes he is guilty, even his former fiance and her entire family! Is there more to this story than is public? How can everyone pivot from love to absolute loathing on a dime? If they all knew that he did this beforehand why was she willing to marry him? How can you be a "witness to the event after the fact" and still plan a wedding?

For most crimes, you're innocent until proven guilty. For rape, including statutory, you're guilty no matter what the eventual verdict.

He should be relieved he never married this wench. Any girl genuinely devoted to a man would not so easily believe the worst about him. Quite the contrary, she would hear the accusations, instinctively dismiss them, and rally to defend her fiance. We all know stories of women defending the most despicable behavior in their men. Typically the extent to which a girl defends her man is indicative of how dominant a frame he has in the relationship.

We can assume that she was not that into this dude and that in all likelihood their prospects for a long marriage were poor anyway. Without the rape accusation she would nevertheless have surprised this poor slob one day with the news that she's unhappy and wants a divorce.
