It's pretty difficult to get away with having your spouse killed. No matter what the police say to the surviving spouse's face, they're always a suspect. Sometimes they're the person they suspect first. And apparently law enforcement regularly plants ads to hire hitmen, and sit and wait for the calls to come in. Too many people get busted by undercovers posing as hitmen.

In a lot of the cases the women contacts a guy she thinks will do it, who in turn tips off the police. The police then either send in their own officer to be the "hitman" or use the original informant. You can't find many entrapment style cases when dealing with this.
