Labor Department lawyer breaks into coworker's apartment. Rapes and assaults her so severely she had to get a plate put in her face.

During the struggle, Detective Alexander MacBean said at a preliminary hearing in Superior Court, the woman pleaded with Mannina and told him that “everybody loves you.”

But Mannina responded, “Well, you don’t,” according to the detective.

Later, as Mannina was leaving the woman’s home, MacBean said, Mannina told his victim, “I’ll just go shoot myself.”


I guess it's better that he did this than to go to the office and shoot it up.

Now, this man was 58 with a good government salary. As a public employee he surely has sick leave built up. Since the work of a labor department bureaucrat is so hard and their supervisors know this, I'm guessing he could have talked his boss into letting him use blocks of sick leave to take mental health vacations.

She did conceal who did it from the cops at first because she was so afraid of him. I suppose the cops told her that if she coughed up the name they'd be able to keep the guy behind bars. She did and now he'll never touch her again.

Dude, guess what, you will be 58 too one day. Even if you are so alpha that you can fuck dozens of chicks every year for free right now, it doesn't mean even one of the girls girls of similar quality will give you the time of day when you are in your late fifties.

What this particular guy did was horrible, and he deserves the most severe punishment, but why are you implying that all fifrtysomethings are losers and betas? Don't you think that puts you on the path of becoming a loser by your own definition?

I think many of us here are independent minded and are not looking to get married. Which means that when we get old, sex tours to places like Bangkok will be one of the few options left....for those who can afford it, of course. Actually, I wouldn't be surprised to see a lot of the guys from this forum around Nana Plaza in about 20 years, but I will not judge them or call them losers. I'll be happy to drink a couple of beers with them.

There is too much man hating going on these days, at least let's not hate on each other.

Good points in normal circumstances. But the circumstances surrounding this do not seem normal. First, according to the Washington Post, the guy died in prison, either by murder or his own hand:

But that story has some troubling details.

First, he lived in the Ashton section of Montgomery County, MD. It's a very wealthy place. Second, he was married. So there goes the Omega loser theory. Third, he was 6'3." No comment needed there. Fourth, he held a Washington "power job" as a lawyer. And finally, he was no loner -- he was active in his community to the point of being a bully at neighborhood planning meetings.

Add up all those things and it's a lot harder to have sympathy. This was not some alienated, loner George Sodini character. Nor was this a case of a mentally ill weirdo like the Virginia Tech shooter.

This was a guy who really had it all, but that wasn't enough. He couldn't just go to a hooker; he had to sexually and physically assault a woman. I assume he was a Washington a-hole who was just as big a prick to men as he was to this woman.

So I'll second the commenter here that said: "Note to Jezebel and xojane: this is what an actual rape case looks like." This was not a misunderstood Omega, but the actual embodiment of the privileged jerk feminists imagine that all men are. Men like this make all men look bad -- he's the male equivalent of the awful women we warn about on here. Good riddance to this DC prick, I say. He sounds like the exact type of bully I avoid in these types of neighborhoods.

Finally, to address the above point as to what we'll all be doing when we're fiftysomething: we'd all be so lucky to live in this neighborhood with it's McMansions and draw a lawyer's salary from the gov't, where he's probably been set for life since he was around 40!

This guy didn't rape her because he needed sexual release, he raped her because he wanted to feel power over her and dominate her. You don't beat a chick into the ICU to bust a nut.

To me it sounds like she dominated him in every aspect (fairly or unfairly) and eventually he snapped and did the most heinous thing you can do to a woman, in order to feel powerful.

I hope they do an autopsy. I'd put money on there being a brain tumor/lesion/etc.

It does raise the question: If such a brain defect is there how much moral culpability does he have? If he were still alive and they could fix it what should happen to him?

That's pretty profound (from a scientific point of view). Sam Harris would be proud, but don't expect much from this forum. I've seen how these things go.

You're treading where now we have to deal with the social consequences of deviant behavior due to a congenital (genetic) or physical (accidental) behavioral defect, or much worse, a psychological disorder (stemming from the same lesions albeit undiagnosed) or sociobiological insult with organic, genetic causes...

Much easier to jump on the bandwagon and "buuuurn the witch!!!! Grrrrr!"

And in the end, let's face it, regardless of the root problem--fucking problem solved. Dead dude in a cell where he can never harm another person again. Sometimes the simplest solutions do suffice.
