Bush Used IRS To Target NAACP

In 2004, the NAACP was hit with an audit over accusations of improper political activity for criticizing the Bush administration.

"We have received information that during your 2004 convention in Philadelphia, your organization distributed statements in opposition of George W. Bush for the office of presidency," the IRS wrote in an audit notice that the group released to the media at the time.

Auditors also notified the group that it could be subject to a 10 percent tax for political expenditures as well as a 2.5 percent tax on any manager that signed off on the political activity.

The NAACP went public and sparked a now-familiar firestorm. Democrats in Congress were up in arms and called for answers about what constitutes political activity and questioning the political motivations of the agency

There's one AUDIT, where's the hundreds more incidents of systemic targeting and DENIAL of tax exempt status?

To learn who rules over you, notice who you cannot criticize.

Bush famously refused to attend their annual conference, which EVERY sitting President, regardless of party, found the time to do. Bush famously wouldn't appear before any audience that wasn't 100% loyalists.

Would you attend a conference made of up of a group of people who would vote against you 98% to 2%? I suprised though W never went, given how he always (to great detriment) tried to be PC with those affirmative action cabinet appointments.

OT, but did you know the current head of the NAACP grew up in Monterey, CA? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ben_Jealous

Quote:At the 2000 Census, the Peninsula (Monterey, Pacific Grove, Carmel and Pebble Beach) had 53,808 residents, 84.8% of whom were White, 8.5% Hispanic or Latino, 6.0% Asian or Pacific Islander and 1.8% were African American

A brother with a lotta soul, I guess.

RE: Bush Used IRS To Target NAACP
Romney went to an NCAAP convention.

Republicans have a great ability to make something out of nothing. I am a middle of the road politics guy. Grew up Republican, believe in a strong military (doesn't mean we need to use it), capitalism (with some fair rules) and that people should all have access to healthcare. I respect those who are consistent in their views which is why I find it funny every time Obama agrees with something a conservative thought of - the conservative votes against it. Explain that to me.

I am saddened that Michelle Bachman is not going to run - I always enjoyed hearing her nonsense.

And fuck - 503 c 4 groups shouldn't have ever been created. It was designed for social welfare and not political. I heard something like 80% of the 503 c 4 groups are conservative - now that doesn't mean 80% of the dollars raised and I heard it on tv so I can't go back and source that. Corporations are not people, we shouldn't have allowed this in the first place.

Section 503©(4) of the Internal Revenue Code allows an organization to be tax-exempt if it is not “organized for profit” and it is “operated exclusively to promote social welfare.” The IRS.gov website provides that “a section 501©(4) social welfare organization may engage in some political activities, so long as that is not its primary activity.”

And yes, I am about to make an unreasonable arguement, but aside from this one thing on Bush's watch - he had a perfect presidency. Seriously, Congress should focus on jobs, the economy rather than showboating for extremists. The Republicans have such a tough road ahead, they need to be crazy enough to win primaries because only the crazy republicans vote during primaries and then swing back to the middle to win the general election. If it wasn't for the gerrymandered districts - the republicans wouldn't even have the house possibly. But gerrymandering is fair, right?

http://www.nytimes.com/2013/02/03/opinio...d=all&_r=0

In North Carolina, where the two-party House vote was 51 percent Democratic, 49 percent Republican, the average simulated delegation was seven Democrats and six Republicans. The actual outcome? Four Democrats, nine Republicans — a split that occurred in less than 1 percent of simulations. If districts were drawn fairly, this lopsided discrepancy would hardly ever occur.

And, I may be totally off base here, but the goal may be to go after Obama, but he seems way too smart and reasonable to think this would be a good idea. That requires some real hubris and a different colored sky in his world. I mean he has screwed up along the way, he ain't perfect, but I just get annoyed with the nonsense.

Anyway spend time on this and Benghazi. Fuck the people. It is just business.

The republicans would kill their entire voting base (white males) just to get even 20% of the black vote.

Not trying to be mean but the white male vote is gonna die out anyway. Younger generation just doesn't hate as much it seems.

RE: Bush Used IRS To Target NAACP
As I stated previously, all sitting Presidents, and even candidates have attended, regardless of party. The purpose of going isn't to convince/sway voters. They attend as a courtesy, and it isn't as if they're facing a hostile crowd, even if most in the room aren't casting a vote for you. Bush was the first to refuse, and in doing so, was expressing hostility. The President is the President for everyone, so it's important that he attend simply to listen. Presidents/candidates appear at all kinds of functions throw by various ethnic organizations and/or special interest groups.

Bush would famously have his people control attendance at any gathering he was to speak at, where he might receive questions. For example, Obama regularly gets heckled at appearances, and simply deals with it as it comes up. Other Presidents have done the same. Bush was afraid of being embarrassed, and didn't want to be ambushed by an occasional question that might challenge him.

Romney brought some African Americans with him to the NCAAP convention.

Left playing down the fact O won from higher than normal black turnout in order to trick Right into embrasing open borders.

Latinos, who are 10.8% of the electorate, contributed just 8.4% of the votes cast. Blacks, who are 12.5% of the electorate, contributed 13.4% of the vote.
Democrats need all the black votes as much as the republicans need all the white votes.

Just a question, hasn't every Democrat president since Carter taken like 95% of the black vote anyways? What fucking difference does 1 more percent make when you have that high a percent of the voter base? Huh

The point isn't what percentage of black votes are democrat, the point is the turnout. Blacks may vote solid for one party, but their turnout rate when the canidate is white is much lower. Obama won because the swing states (Ohio, Virginia, Florida) all have larger than average black population, and black voter turnout was much higher than usual (if Blacks turned out for Kerry in 04, Bush would've lost big time). Obama is as black a president can be..which really means he's black enough to get the black vote, but white enough to stay in line. Banana

Classic: blame Bush since he did it first. Yawn. I keep hearing this line 4+ fucking years down the road.

When the shit actually sticks to the Chicago machine running the White House, I will send a big wad of cash to the NAACP and Democrat Party. I think I am pretty safe on this one.

Enjoy the decline of the West!

I don't see how anyone is "blaming Bush." The government has always used the IRS as its attack dog in one way or another. To this day, when they can't make any other charge stick on a criminal, they hit 'em with tax evasion.
