Wrong. I actually know young doctors and talk to them. 100% of doctors in residency, regardless of the type of practice, work 80+ hours. They don't work less until they've moved up the food chain, which occur once they are in their late 30's (earliest) or 40's (more realistic). And while they are Med school, they already work sick hours and study around 6-8 hours per day. I know all of this because my old roommate was a doctor. Many doctors in med school get part-time jobs on top of school-load too. Talk about a hellish life.

They all have serious issues with burnout. But they have no choice. If they don't put in the crazy hours, they'll be replaced with the near endless stream of new doctors all chasing the paycheck.

It being D.C. and the east coast in general, having a good career with a nice title or status, "doctor", "partner at a law firm", etc., can be important to women, especially more so than the west coast, but I really doubt being a doctor is going to get girls wet and dropping panties in and of itself.

Now a days women are more likely to want to fuck the good looking bartender, bouncer, DJ, guy in the local band, etc. I think the whole women wanting a doctor or lawyer thing is played up, unless it was more important back in the 90's.

I think overall your point is solid. Interest sharing does not necessarily cause attraction. I realized this some time back when I discovered the paradox that I often have a better date the less I have in common with a woman. The worst date for me to be on it seems is with a brainy girl who's into the same things I am. I remember years ago having what I thought was a good date and we had a really great and interesting conversation. I was stunned when she turned me down for a second date. It was exactly like one of these datelab dates. Then I think of another date prior to that where we had nothing in common but I was getting a blow within the 2hr mark. To be fair, he seems like a good guy do something positive with his life. The world needs guys like him....and with him as my competition in DC it makes my life that much easier.

You're right, except the major difference is men ALWAYS have to think about what they bring to the table, and be realistic about it. Women generally don't think that way. At some point, they need to re-evaluate what they're looking for and make sure it's in line with what they're bringing. I don't disagree, that on both sides of the table, attraction has to be present. However, women continually try to sell the idea that looks aren't as important, but that the whole picture regarding a man matters more. We wouldn't call them deluded if they were more honest about that. Men generally don't lie about the importance of looks.

In 2003, a law was passed that capped resident work hours to 80 hours per week averaged over 4 weeks. Basically, the max amount of hours that residency programs can make you work is 320 hours per month. Surgeons sometimes misreport their hours and work longer than that though.

The residents I know are in radiology (60 hours/week), internal medicine (55 hours/week), dermatology (50 hours/week) and ER (64 hours/week). You also have to spend around a few hours a week studying on your own, and some residents do time consuming research as well.

You are correct in saying that burnout can easily happen if you don't enjoy your field of medicine.
