It's sometimes not possible and that's why planning your dates and environments is so important. The problem is that the few places that have loungey couches I've been so many damn times it loses it's excitement, I start to worry about being "that guy" to the staff, etc

It's possible to go from sitting across from her to sitting next to her. This is a move I pulled frequently when I was going on tons of dates each week. Wait till she (or you) goes to the bathroom, then make the switch.

I prefer showing her some photos on a smartphone or doing a palm reading, makes it more natural. Doing it after the bathroom visit seems a bit intrusive to me.

It's bold and unexpected, that's why it works. I've even gone so far as to remove the chair from the other side of the table so she has no where else to go and given her the ol' *shrug* - of course to execute it properly this all needs to be done before she gets back and you need to be calm and cool.

The problem the OP has is over analysing the dates. Don't.

Go out with the girl to a lively bar, order drinks and slowly get drunk together whilst being flirtatious throughout and always be in a light comical mood. Fuck interview questions and dinner dates, you're not applying for a job. Have fun, be different than the other dates you see at other tables where two people nervously talk in hushed towns and are looking for a way out. Don't go in with ideas of what to say, say whatever the fuck comes into your head at the time. Sometimes you will say shit that in the morning you will cringe about but in the moment it doesn't matter as long as you are having a laugh with the girl. Bounce venues once or twice and lead her by the arm to the next one, let her know that you are attracted to her but keep it light and fun.

If you do that no matter if you bang or not it doesn't matter so much because you had a good time, you had a laugh. And believe me if you are having a fun time 99% of the time the date will too. If she isn't make excuses and end the date.

Don't get caught up in your head about this stuff it's just two people meeting for drinks and some flirtation. It's not rocket science.
