Thanks again for the great info guys, looks like I'm going to have to spend more time in South Africa, it seems like it would suit me best. Have you guys experienced a lot of travel related BS in Africa such as paying bribes, getting hasseled, etc. After my experience with that drama in the Philippines, its not something I'm keen on going through again.

Surprisingly no. I say surprisingly because people were constantly warning me about problems in Africa, like muggings, pickpockets, carjacking, corrupt police, bribes at border crossings, etc. Not once did I experience any problems whatsoever, even when traveling through very poor areas.

Hope your experience will be the same.

I don't care what country you go to, most of them are all high quality girls, but don't forget your protection. (a megapack of condoms I'd say)

I agree with Sabra. I can't speak for all of Africa but I never once even came close to having a problem. Statistics will tell you South Africa is super dangerous, but just be aware and you should be fine.

If you just avoid doing anything stupid you'll be way ahead of many. Like I've mentioned, nothing compact and valuable in your checked in luggage for example. Don't flash money/valuables on the street etc. Basic stuff.

I know people who have had stuff stolen when passing through Joburg airport. Just don't have anything mentioned in your checked in luggage and you'll be fine. No need to obsess about it. Bribes also do happen in the poorer countries. But you can consider it more a side-fee. It's subtle, and it's not as if it's asked for with an implied threat of violence. It's more like a border agent will just make you wait a really long time if you don't pay. Or nitpick a form you filled in etc. Petty bribes rare in South Africa.

I agree that a lot of travelers are paranoid. Most people you meet are likely to be genuinely friendly and not out to con or harm you. Just don't put yourself in a position where those few who are can get at you.

South Africa is an extremely diverse country. In terms of people, culture, landscapes, climate. So many things. The main tourist drags are Cape Town, Garden Rote and Kruger Park, but there is a lot more to the country.

First time I've seen this post. I've given Scotian quite some info already through PM and I think he is still planning this trip. Me, I will most likely return to East Africa in January next year. If someone's around let me know.

Overall:

For black girls (taking into account easiness, hotness, risk of disease, etc.)
Ethiopia>Rwanda>Uganda>East Congo>Burundi>Kenya>Tanzania>South Africa (HIV)>Zanzibar (Tanzania)

For overall travel fun/extreme activities/beautiful nature
Uganda(nature+cheap+diversity+tourism)>South Africa(lots of activities, nature, everything but a bit more pricey)>Ethiopia (amazing nature, very isolated areas, different cultures, danger tourism)>Kenya=Tanzania (lots of nature etc. but also very touristy, you still wont be dissapointed)>Rwanda (incredible mountains, safe and organized, but expensive)> East Congo (incredible volcanoes, mountain gorillas, high mountains, but you are taking big risks here and the VISA is very expensive)>Burundi (Ive been only few days but very undeveloped tourism and generally poor infrastructure etc. still no doubt with local intel there are incredible places to be found)

My two cents! In general, Africa is amazing in many ways, don't hesitate to go and dont worry too much about safety. This comes from a guy whose been to warzone areas with private militias just for fun. Hopefully soon I can check out some other parts of this wonderful continent.

Ps I left out Morocco which has beautiful woman as well but for me its not really Africa in culture, whereas Ethiopia still is.

I'm always shocked when i hear this.. Ethiopian chicks are really cream of the crop in Africa? I was there for 10 days and saw nothing mindblowing.. although the other dudes (and girls) were constantly talking about how pretty they were. So might be just me. though it's extra funny when you check into yr hotel and there's already a chocolate-flavored condom in the drawer haha

Did you go out? If you walk around in the city centre you wont be blown away indeed. But go to a club at night and damn, the talent is amazing. The thing is in Africa the capital cities gather all the prettiest girls from the whole country and then these girls gather in certain places known for expats etc. So you can easily find literally the best talent of the country in a selected few places. The families will actually stimulate pretty girls to move and find a rich foreigner. To speak about an average girl in an african country is useless as a foreigner, you would have to take into account all those village girls who have nothing going for them etc.

So we can conclude that sure, the average girl in Ethiopia is probably still uglier than the average girl in any rich country, but who cares, you will get the top 1% handed to you on a platter and in Ethiopia that top 1% is pretty damn fine let me tell you.

Yeah indeed I never went out clubbing.. was there for an NGO project thing and only spent a couple nights at the capital. Still, the people in my group were in love with Ethipians that were wandering daytime. I guess it's because it's their third time even leaving the fucking country haha

I'm on the fence about going to Africa this winter, it looks like I'll be quitting my job in a couple of weeks and I'll be off until March or April, so I have plenty of time to play with. I'm planning to return to Colombia for at least a couple of months and may just stay down there as I"m not too sure how adventurous I feel this year, I know that a trip to Africa would be quite the adventure. If I do make it over, I'd probably end up in East Africa and hit up Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda, there's a good chance I'd hit up SA too but that would depend on flights. Thanks to Rottenapple for the excellent Africa advice, he painted a really good picture of how it is to travel over there. Are any of you RVF guys planning on being anywhere in Africa this upcoming winter from around January to April? If so, let me know, there's still a chance that I may end up over there.

I might hit up Rwanda, Burundi, Uganda and Congo in January but its still a somewhat vague plan. Colombia is a possibility as well in 2015, so hopefully we can meet in any of those places.
