Juicing is actually becoming very popular among the yuppie health crowd. It's expensive, at $8-12 a pop, but the people taking them are often using them as meal replacements. It's funny how paleo is more of an internet phenomenon, while juicing is hitting retail hard.

God every day a different fattie brings in a case of donuts to work. I love how they're so surprised that I refuse them when I "have nothing to worry about." I have noticed that the people under 35 tend to be a lot more health conscious.

Krispy Kreme was a predecessor of trendifying doughnuts. Now, we're all the way up to cupcakes, you're right.

Did you know that the Greater Los Angeles area has over 2,000 doughnut shops? It would take like six years to eat at all of them if you tried a new one everyday. I saw that shit on the Food Channel a while back.

Krispy Kreme was horrible and I knew it wouldn't last. There's a 24 hr. Shipleys by me so I never have to crave them. You can't fuck with the classics.

Does anyone in Maryland remember Montgomery Doughnuts? They were big, cake-like doughnuts that were immensely satisfying. Krispy Kreme is the same price for a much smaller doughnut. I can kill a Krispy Kreme doughnut in two bites. It feels like I didn't even eat anything.

Although Montgomery Doughnuts went bankrupt many years ago, they supposedly still sell the donuts at a place called Slice N Dice in Crystal City, Virginia.

As for frozen yogurt, its a seasonal shop that basically canibalized ice-cream shops . The economics are much better. 1-2 employees, everything is self-serve and much more expensive than baskin robbins.

From second-hand knowledge of people who work for Menchies, that chain is going down the shitter. Too many idiots franchisee owners buying into it.

On the other hand, Yogurtland is here to stay. Yogurtland has strict franchisee policies (I heard something along the lines of franchises needing 10MM in assets or 2MM liquid assets) and very strict location selection policies. The yogurtlands I have walked into have tons of people rolling around. The one across the Beverly center is ALWAYS packed. In recap, wealthy franchisee owners who can weather the seasonal income fluctuations + excellent management/location selection+ a business that almost runs itself on low-intelligence labor. Its a near dream.

My other guess would be over priced Chicago-Style Hot Dog places - they seem to be starting to pop up in the up and coming SWPL DC neighborhoods. Before Chicagoans go balistic, I think Chicago Hot Dogs are delicious. But they are not $6 a dog delicious.

I like Chicago Pizza too - both thin and thick.

I'm not gonna front. Sprinkle's Cupcakes taste awesome. I don't get them anymore (too far away), but after a leg day or really brutal workout, 2 scoops of protein and 2 cupcakes is about as good of a workout meal as it gets.

The cupcake concept started off as legit. You'd see a lot of hot women in Beverly Hills standing in line for cupcakes. They'd have one, tops, and often they'd just eat half and throw the rest away.

$3.50 seems like a lot to the rest of the country, but that won't even cover half of the cost of getting your car valeted at Nordstrom.

It was a good way to get a tasty treat without having to buy a whole cake.

But the fat generation ruined it. People started eating those things every day. Last I knew there was a cupcake vending machine so people can get them 24/7.

It used to be that eating a dessert or pizza or something was called an "indulgence." You'd say, "Man, I really indulged today. Better not do that for a while."

Indulging is a fine way to break up the monotony of things. But now people don't even use that word anymore. Indulgence is just the default state.

Look at the people standing in line for the Northern California location. They don't even look happy. They kinda look pissed off. (Why wait in a fucking line that you know is going to be long and then be pissed off?)

They're just mindless fucking druggies waiting for a fix.

I thought Starbucks/Cofee bean was a fad/bubble as well.... Still can't fathom why people pay 4+ dollars for a coffee that you could make at home.

Edit- Spending 3x the "extreme daily poverty rate" (1.25 dollars/day) on a cup of coffee that is mediocre at best, and made by retarded comunity college yuppies.

Yeah, they were just to sweet and sugary. I felt like my teeth were gonna fall out after one. If SWPL were smart, they would just hit up Mexican sweet bread spots but they're probably to scared to go in the hood. Again, nothing can fuck with the classics.

There is a new place in DC that just opened called Astro, that sells gourmet donuts and fried chicken. Right near metro center. Doughnuts are about $2.50/donut and up. Fried chicken only at lunch time apparently. There is always a line at lunch.

I've always noticed that girls, especially those in their prime years, have a tough time turning down pastries and sweets, which are also very calorically dense for how filling they are.

My suspicion is that it's a pre-historic naturally-selected holdover from when calories were hard to come by and females had to make sure they were well-fed, as they were usually pregnant or would be soon thereafter.

Now it's a highly maladaptive trait, one that desecrates the attractiveness of the segment of the female population who should be at their best physically.

I remember the first time I got that bacon/banana pie. I was with a girl, I took a bite, and said, "Oh shit, bacon in there."

She thought I said, "They should put bacon in there" so she replied, "No no, that would be overkill."
