RE: 30s and Single- Jealousy or Pity?
How many guys do you know who are married or in an LTR whose lives are improved by the woman they're with? I know a tiny minority of guys who (i) really wanted kids, (ii) have had multiple kids with their wife and (iii) haven't gotten divorced - they basically break even on happiness because the positives of kids compensates for the annoyance of having your life tied to a big dumb animal. For the rest (the vast majority), marriage/LTR clearly lowers their quality of life - less freedom, living with dysfunctional behavior, financial costs, divorce, etc. To get married, you have to reject experience, common sense and logic - or have some reason to think you'll be an exception.

HAHAHAHAHA no. I think you meant girlfriend.

Past a certain age there aren't that many emotionally healthy women that will just get in a long-term relationship with no expectation or hope of marriage. Unless you are famous or rich, good luck pulling that off for the rest of your life.

Sir ! the world you want is the one you create. Stop with the conjecture of what women will and won't put up with.....

framed properly and incentivized properly they put with just about anything.

I don't know if there's any hard data to back this up, but it seems like most people pretty much stop having sex after a few years of marriage. Then you're basically in a situation where you have an expensive roomate who likes to argue about who gets to take out the garbage or do the dishes this time.

It doesn't matter how attractive a girl is, after several years of sticking your dick in the same place it just isn't going to seem interesting or exciting.

Married people actually have more sex on average than single people:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/04/13...22644.html

Quote:To look at the statistics about marriage and sex, you wouldn’t even know that there was an issue to begin with. “Studies have found that married people have more sex than single people, and they also have more varied sex,” says sexual health expert and best-selling author Dr. Laura Berman, who hosts “In The Bedroom with Dr. Laura Berman” on OWN. ”Oral sex is also more common among married people.”

One of the most comprehensive studies on the subject, which was released in 2010 by the Center for Sexual Health Promotion at Indiana University, confirmed this, compiling statistics on sexual attitudes and habits of 5,865 people between ages 14 and 94. An average of 61 percent of singles reported that they hadn’t had sex within the past year, compared with 18 percent of married people. Looking specifically at those between the ages of 25 and 59, 25 percent of married people reported that they were still having sex two to three times per week versus less than five percent of singles.

RE: 30s and Single- Jealousy or Pity?
I've never married. Can't way that I ever will. But I can say that I don't look at any of my married (or divorced or twice divorced) friends and think to myself, "Man, I would love to change places with that dude. He's got it made!"

A couple guys got kids and they really love the kids and enjoy being fathers, but very few are still in love with their wives and wouldn't love to be single. They basically stay with the women for the sake of the children. That's the one's that are still married. not to even mention the other horror stories of dudes paying alimonym, child support, and all sorts of other shit from a failed marriage.

So only 25% of married couples are still fucking on a regular basis? That doesn't help much.

Part of the article you're citing actually agrees with me:

Quote:Unfortunately, there isn’t conclusive statistical data comparing the frequency of couples’ sex while they’re dating to the frequency of their sex as a married couple. However, it doesn’t take a scientist to understand that, as time passes, their sex lives will take a hit.

It’s human nature to crave novelty, as great thinkers as far back as Pliny the Elder have noted -- it’s what makes new couples want to rip the buttons off each others’ shirts and engage in lingerie-sparked romps until the wee hours of the morning. But eventually, having access to the same naked body night after night is bound to erode its novelty. “Tonight’s the night” becomes “not tonight” -- after all, there’s always tomorrow (and the next night... and the next night... and… okay, you get it).

If your relationship started off hotter, heavier and sweatier than a Florida summer, this sexual shift can be disheartening -- even a little scary -- as you start comparing your married sex life to the one you had early on in your relationship (or to the assumed steamy sex lives of your fellow wedded friends).

The idea that 61% of unmarried people are having no sex at all also seems suspect...

That kinsey institute article seems like the numbers may be a little off:

Quote:•23% of men and 11% of women have bought X-rated movies or videos

Only 23% of men watch porn? That's bullshit.

I'm sure frequency of sex declines with age for both married and single people. Our libidos decline with age. There's not a bunch of 60 year old guys running around smashing 25 year old hotties every weekend unless your name is Hugh Hefner. I'm not trying to be a downer, just being a realist.

Quote:The idea that 61% of unmarried people are having no sex at all also seems suspect...

Why would it? Most people aren't out there running pick up routines on drunk sluts at bars and clubs every weekend. Guys that are swimming in pussy are statistical outliers. Whenever they do polls on this stuff, people tend to think there are way more people getting laid than there actual are. I saw a study that a pretty sizable number of guys graduate college as virgins even though everyone thinks college is a 4 year fuck fest(which it may be if you are in a popular frat).

Bought, not watch. I'm surprised it's even 23%. I don't know anyone that buys porn anymore since there's so much available for free.

The decline is more like eating hamburger every day for years. It isn't so much the decline in libido but having sex the same way with the same person for a long time.

It doesn't matter if a 60 year old can't get with 25 year olds. That 60 year old can be hitting the 40 and up or move to a country where he has an upper hand.

Sex with a new person is exciting. Sex with the same person over 10 years, not so much. Age has nothing to do with it.

I think people stay together for the wrong reasons.

Not only that but I suspect the majority of people stay together for the wrong reasons. Either they are afraid of being alone, or they have their finances intertwined to the point of divorce destruction or they got lazy/fat and don't want to go through the process of making themselves more attractive.
