About to book my flight to SE asia in late summer. The few asian airlines that I am deciding to take have stop overs in HK, Singapore or KL before heading to the Phillipines.

If you had your choice, which city would you stay for a week in before moving on?

Malls do not excite me.

I've only spent extensive time in HK (1 year) though know quite a bit about Singapore.
If I were you I'd actually hit HK for a few days before Philippines, it'll get you in the right mood plus it's super diverse. There's tons of mall in all 3 of these cities but fairly easy to avoid in HK. Plus, it's the only city that's practical for a short-term (Singa and KL are a bit more conserative).

My 48 hour experience from HK was not good. No cute girls, expensive rent, bad food, materialism, luxury shops, spoiled kids, unfriendly natives, language barrier, bad weather.
Even though all this, it was interesting to see. And i would go again to see more of the city.

KL, cheaper, friendlier locals, english widely spoken, cuter girls, nice parks, better weather.

No intel on singapore

Can't speak for HK but would definitely pick KL over Singapore. Quality of girls are about the same and you'll face different challenges in both places. Your money will go twice as far in KL however.

And the street hawker food in KL is some of the best I've had from a cart anywhere in the world.

My voice goes to KL as well. Spent there 10 days, and easily could more.
If you decide on it, make sure to have hotel close to Bukit Bintang. It's where the best shopping malls (berjaya times square) for gaming girls during day is, as well as the massive party street for night time.
The place is alluring. Also, go to Genting Highlands, a perfect example of one mans dream come true (he literally built a casino city in the middle of nowhere in less than 15 years).

If you're looking for food, KL is as interesting as it gets in the world.

If its women, forget it for KL. Alcohol is expensive and bars are tough pickup. If you want women in KL, day game in a mall is probably your best bet.

Agreed. I have not been to HK, but KL is much better than Singapore. Not only cheaper but livelier.

I am in KL right now.

I am an older guy and have had some success with Tagged in both places and have had no problems making approaches and getting phone numbers. My only limitation is time and endurance.

I kinda agree with most of what you said, although it's not exclusive to HK. SP is also pretty stuck-up and materialistic.
But as for cute girls.. holy cow you are wrong. One could just walk around LKF for about 2 hours and be swarmed by stunners.. and most of em speak English enough too, and love getting wasted. They are easily the finest besides Tokyo maybe. There are even hot raves going on if you manage to get in on the underground scene

I agree with the general sentiment here.

Hong Kong first choice as it is probably a somewhat shorter flight and a really cool city.

KL is basically a cheaper, dirtier, more muslim version of Singapore IMO. Your money will definitely go farther here.

Singapore is expensive and boring. Pleasant city but the place is a giant shopping mall.

All three could and likely would be a good time for five days, but HK far and away would be the best. Five days isn’t a lot of time, but you could definitely hit a lot of the attractions during the day, and you could game in a different nightlife environment every day of the week (Tsim Sha Tsui, Lan Kwai Fong, Wanchai, Causway Bay, and Race track). Hell, you might even be able to do a night in Macau.

Going to figure out a way to do 4 days in both KL and HK. Looks like Singapore Air is my cheapest option.

Having been in all three this year on my trip for a week each, I have to recommend Hong Kong.

All three places have huge malls.
Food wise, KL was my favorite and Singapore was my least favorite being so expensive.
Night life wise, Hong Kong I liked the best:
KL's night clubs were mostly groups of people seated at tables with bottle service - if a club even had a dance floor, it was tiny and the group would dance in a circle on it
Singapore's night clubs had bad ratios, expensive, high competition, large lineups for clubs on busy nights
Hong Kong's Lai Kwai Fong area had people every night of the week like Singapore but it was a little cheaper, ratios were OK to poor. If you hook up with a local it's probably going to be an ex-pat.

Weather wise Hong Kong was pleasant that I could actually walk around during the day/night and not get all sweaty.

If you don't count fancy restaurants I find the food in Singapore to be way cheaper than the US. If you want to eat the local fare good hawker centers/food courts will have you covered, and its S$5-6 a meal. And there are places like Dover Market all over where you can get $2.5 -$3 chicken rice and $2 Mee Goreng. The eateries in malls are also cheap and you don't have to drop tips.

I strongly disagree with this post. some fresh air is nice. it just feel like an aged shoppingmall on the top of a hill. noisy, mostly family oriented, long waiting lines.

as a single guy traveling. this is a bad option. they don't even have poker there.
