RE: Native American puts racists in their box
He's got a point, even if some of the protestors try to forward some bogus arguments about "Kennywyck Man" or whatever.
The thing is that Native Americans preceded European Americans in the USA. The takeover happened, Euro-Americans won, and now the land is largely theirs.
What exactly makes the entrance of modern illegals and other immigrants more unjust than that of Euro-Americans to the New World (or Australia/NZ, for that matter)?
Nothing, really. I'm not saying that there aren't practical reasons to oppose illegal immigration, but I am saying that those who oppose it on principle ("this is OUR country, they just don't belong!") don't really have a moral high ground to stand on. I mean, did their ancestors belong when they arrived all those generations ago?
Migrations happen, new peoples take over-this is the way of the world. One invasion is no more inherently moral than anyone else's.
Know your enemy and know yourself, find naught in fear for 100 battles. Know yourself but not your enemy, find level of loss and victory. Know thy enemy but not yourself, wallow in defeat every time.

True, but usually they happen (at the scale seen in Europe by Islam and USA by Mexicans) by violent force. But you're right, in truth, morally they can't really complain.
That said, the Europeans in Europe have a much stronger leg to stand on so to speak. Although to counter that, you could say it was them who invaded everywhere else. It's a complicated one.

My grandmother is American Indian, but I'm just another whitey in appearance and culture. Uncle Sam (not the actual historical figure, but the generalized spirit of the gov't) kept the tribes fighting against each other for a while, instead of fighting him, but then he figured out that forcibly relocating various tribes from their homelands to reservations, or fracturing a tribe entirely, splitting them up and sending them to the four corners, effectively destroying the tribe, was a nicer way to go (Oklahoma has no reservations, but a high AI population all from different tribes all I've the country). Many young children were also taken from their parents and put in boarding houses to be westernized (where many ended up abused physically and sexually). Basically, the government was trying to destroy their culture and assimilate them, turn them into "real" 'Mericans.
Now, even though the tribal councils exist, there's more of a general AI culture. There are national powwows that bring visitors from all over the US and Canada where many people from different tribes meet, there are "sister tribes", etc. Hence, a person could be entirely native in genes, and be Cherokee (originally from Georgia), Lakota (Colorado/Wyoming), and Puyallup (Washington).

When people can't achieve economic status, they'll try to boost their status by claiming race. I notice alot of black people claiming they got a "litttle bit of Indian" in the fam.

Americans claiming some indian ancestry is not limited to blacks I've heard just as many whites claim the same thing. Not that it matters, nobody cares if your 1/16 seminole. . .s

RE: Native American puts racists in their box
^How would a black person boost their economic status by claiming the only race in America/Canada doing worse than they are? With a black president, black senatorsé, congressmen, oprah, bob johnson, magic johnson, mike jordan, aliko dagonté, mike adenuga, mohamad ibrahim, David Steward, Tyler Perry, Russel Simmons, patrick motsepé, michael jackson and the endless sport and media millionaires, I don`t get it. The only Native American billionaire I can think of has 2 great grandmothers who are native (with the remaining bloodlines of his being white) and hardly looks native to me at all.

Ah yeah the old (or actually rather new) "I'm a victim" card. Victimhood is now sought after in the West rather than avoided.
This isn't about claiming victimhood. Many blacks, especially those that trace families back to the South, have Native blood. It's no different than anyone talking about their family lineages. I have Cherokee and Blackfoot heritage from North Carolina (Great-Great grandparents, and Great Grandmother), but people don't claim it to score any points. It's just like the Latin craze in Hollywood many years ago. All of a sudden, actors/actresses that never claimed heritage before started talking about having Latin blood. Linda Ronstadt, who I never recall mentioning her Mexican heritage suddenly releases an album in Spanish to capitalize...HA HA!

HA HA! I remember Raquel Welch repped her Latin heritage also, when she didn't do that for her whole career (however, that was out of necessity. She doesn't have the same career in Hollwood back then if she weren't believed to be white). There was already noise from Natives about Johnny Depp being cast as Tonto in the new Lone Ranger flick. And honestly, there are plenty of Native actors they could have cast. At the same time, you're trying to sell as many tickets as possible, so you want the biggest names you can find on the marquee.

RE: Native American puts racists in their box
One of the fundamental duties of government is to secure the borders to prevent the unchecked ingress of people who may not be perceived as beneficial. They are usually perceived this way because of differences in language, culture, religion, or loyalties, which make the newcomers a destabilizing force, disturbing the status quo and threatening the established peace and way of life of a place. They are usually poor and just want to settle down and work hard to make a living for themselves peacefully. The problem is that they cannot be allowed in quickly or in too great a number at once, or they tend to settle together and retain their old ways, creating pockets of settlement that are primarily loyal to themselves, and only loosely to the state in which they now dwell. This has happened all throughout history. The Roman Empire collapsed in large part because external pressures drove a number of different peoples to migrate into the empire in a relatively short timespan. There wasn't time to settle and Romanize them in an orderly fashion, and so after a couple hundred years of this, the Empire had very little control over the provinces. Government: 0 Newcomers: 1. Fast forward 800 years or so, and the opposite happened in Ireland. English settlers were forbidden to intermarry with the Irish because the English settlements were being slowly and surely assimilated into the local Irish culture. When settling North America, if the Indians had been politically united with a stronger grasp of the geopolitical situation, they might have imposed settlement terms on the Pilgrims at Plymouth and absorbed them into their own people, instead of allowing dozens of white colonial settlements to be founded. Europe is having problems not because of immigration in se, but because the immigrants are by-and-large polar opposites to them in terms of religion and culture, they are great in number, relatively new arrivals, and have a very high birthrate compared to the "indigenous" Europeans.
