Roosh mentioned in one of his recent posts that he knows of nice places to live on $1500/month or so. Can anyone recommend a city, small city or even village for $1500 or under/month that is not in Eastern Europe or Africa? Preferably in a nice part of South America or in Western Europe? Is life in Spain possibly that cheap yet?

I am also open to East Asia/SE Asia, but am concerned that living long-term in Thailand, Vietnam, or Cambodia can become very boring and alienating, especially not having the language and such.

I am asking not just about girls but about overall quality of life. I've lived for example in Panama City, Panama before, on very little money; but that place is a boring shithole. You used to be able to live in Buenos Aires for $1500/month quite well, and it was great despite the girls being difficult.

You can still live in Buenos Aires, relatively modestly (no balling), but comfortably, for $1500 a month.
In fact, you can do that in any Argentine city, and life would be decent.

You could live in North Africa, by the sea in Tunisia, for way less than $1500 a month and be more than comfortable. In fact if you had long hair, looked sufficiently French to pass off as one, a white blazer with pastoral trousers and had $1500 a month, well, you could develop a considerably effective, although altogether affected, type of Mediterranean playboy game. Yes, it's an inferior type of playboy game to that practised by others on the Mediterranean, but we can't all be yacht owning tax avoiding Lake Como residing dilettantes. Unless we propose a method of collective ownership where things are proportionately divided, not simply nouns, no no, but the division of labour too. Oh, what a glorious idea that would be. Not. Or maybe not not.

Alternatively.

You could live in Poland, although i am guessing when you said eastern Europe you also meant certain parts of central Europe, like Hungary and Poland, which are considered eastern Europe not because of geographic reasons but, rather, cultural reasons ( typically caused by a misunderstanding of Slavic culture - and the pan Slav nationalistic dream -- and a post communist hangover) . I blame you not. But i am sincere. You could live in Poland, rent a decent place, develop a decent clique of fellow expats, integrate (or violate) into established social networks, and bang a number of 7's.

Shit, to be absolutely brutal, although it isn't really brutal at all and i have probably just used an inappropriate expression, you could survive in Paris or Barcelona on that money. By survive, i mean more than that, which i probably ought to have said in the first place. If you budget supermarket shop, walk a great deal, share a bedroom or take a small bedroom in a shared house outside the centre, and spent little on going out. You'd be living in Paris or Barcelona on $1500 a month and still going out maybe 2 or 3 times a week, although on a truly limited budget.

I'll get even more to the point. Some people in London live on less than what you are suggesting for a month, including renting their own room. The reality is their lives, unfortunately and for want of a fairer system, aren't exactly blessed with opportunities and options for doing stuff - relative to others. That's not to say they don't do it. They do. Most menial workers in London earn around £1000 a month. They rent their own place, work 5/6 days a week, and go out a couple of nights a week. It isn't great and yet they manage. They often also somehow contrive to save £100/200 a month too. Understanding the finer delicacies and nuances of the immigrant mentality is something i haven't entirely managed yet, but i'm 98% of the way there, and these people are contented, although neither happy nor fulfilled. They live. And it is a nice city. Which is what you are after.

Oh, wait. Perhaps you don't quite believe these letters and words that i type. Should that be so i'll choose not to retreat and hide, no no, i'll move forward and elaborate upon my claim.

London. Living in a nice city. To break it down. $1500 = £950

You might rent a room in Haringey for £400 a month. It will be sparse and basic. You will be sharing the house with any combination of people, likely to include 1 French Algerian who works as night security staff, 1 middle class Brazilian from Sao Paolo who is on a gap year working as a kitchen porter, 2 Spanish girls from Andalucia working as waitresses and an Italian telesales worker. It will be 30 minutes on a bus from the centre.

You would get a travelcard, enabling you to use public transport at a slightly discounted rate. Between taking the odd bus for free and paying for 3 or 4 a day, you will spend around £100 a month on travel.

So, now we are at £500 on travel and rent.

Cheap food, like that which an immigrant (but not down in the dumps immigrant) worker or weed smoking student might eat, would set you back £8 a day. I'm writing of chips, ham sandwiches, water. Not Mumbai squalor garbage, but not middle class affluence either. Just regular run of the mill stuff. Always cooking for yourself. That's £240 a month.

So we are now at £740.

That would leave you with £210, after the 3 basics of rent, travel and food are accounted for, to spend as you wish. That is around £50 a week. That's a small budget to party on. But with day game, charm, the understanding of which spots in the city cater for those on lesser budgets (student hang out areas) and a willing character, you could do it. Free wifi in the cafe's, interesting exhibitions at the museums / galleries, hot women all over the place. You could pass your time pleasurably. And only a man who is tired of life is tired of London. Lest it not be claimed otherwise one might even propose that i am tired of this exhausting city, only is it so or isn't it i shall leave up in the air for you to guess. Not that you care. Not that i blame you.

All in all. What does this mean? Well, life doesn't have a meaning, or so we'd presume by any rational thinking, so, let's not even begin to imagine that this post means much, but, by way of justifying this post, i will propose one benefit of it. In theory, no, in reality, actuality, as a seasoned people observer, i can tell you, that you can live in London on $1500 a month.

And if you can live in London on that budget, then you can also live in Madrid, Barcelona, Paris or Rome. Although in some ways Madrid, Paris and Rome don't lend themselves as nicely to the money starved as London does.

Anyway. Don't live like an urban peasant. Unless you are an urban peasant. Then i meant you no offence. Go and live in Buenos Aires. Develop a social network, Join tango classes. Volunteer for some bullshit. Within 3 months you might have 4 girls on the go, each thinking they are going to marry you. You'll marry none. You'll return back to the concrete jungle from whence you came and be better for the experience. Or maybe you will be worse. But nobody knows.

Besides, what really constitutes a nice city? Are we to say nice people? Pleasing architecture? Useful public services? Subservient institutions? Beautiful women? Good tennis courts? A prevalence of bookish cafe's? A fair amount of 3g network coverage?

Thanks for the post, but these are what I consider the bare necessities of decent living anywhere: your own place, not a room, that's livable and at least not depressing, and in a central location. Good-speed internet access. A decent gym (or outdoors mountain trails for hiking/etc.)

I'm looking for a place with mild weather and where the women at least are quite good-looking, even if they're difficult or unavailable; I would not live in Bangladesh or Nicaragua, because I have 0 attraction for the women in those countries. I don't like to be surrounded by ugliness.

As for what's a nice city, it's a place where, women aside, you won't get bored out of your mind and the culture doesn't suck. Central America imo is a big suck with boring culture and people and nothing at all to do, and shithole "cities." And while Budapest is a nice place, I know eastern Europe well, and I don't understand what you guys do in your spare time in a mid-sized Polish or Romanian city.

Here are two really nice cities: Rio, where besides the women, there's beautiful scenery, great weather, endless things to do during the day in terms of sports, beach, and outdoors activities, great people you can make friends with, lots of interesting nightlife, etc., etc.; or Buenos Aires, which lacks the beach and the more physical culture, but has a lot of cafes, bars, theater, art, nightlife, chess clubs, and so on, and you can enjoy yourself in all kinds of ways. Unfortunately Rio is too expensive; maybe you're right about Buenos Aires and I should try it out again. I could live quite comfortably before on $1500.

Do you know any place in the mountains, where you could rent a comfortable cabin, and live for around the price I mentioned: whether in the Andes, or the Pyrenees, or elsehwere, where you can live a vigorous life around fresh air and forests.

Anyway, these are the kinds of things I consider nice; I know you can live on $1500 in Madrid or NY if you rent a room, but that's not a decent way of life imo.

You could probably pull it off in a lot of Colombia, but keep in mind you won't be living in the NICEST neighborhood, but you could still definitely find something nice. I was talking to a buddy yesterday who was paying something like $350 for 2 br apartment in Itagui, which isn't the worst neighborhood but not the best either. Another friend was in Larelas and she was paying about the same, if not a little less for a bedroom and that is probably the 2nd or 3rd nicest hood in Medellin. As long as you stay out of Poblado, it should be doable in Colombia. You aren't gonna be able to go out a whole lot, but a couple times a week maybe since it's cheap to drink.

Now that the Argentina peso has fallen so much in value verses the dollar and euro it is much easier to live there with $1,500 a month.

Lima, Peru you can live well with $1,500/month depending on the neighborhood. Rent will be about $500 to $700 a month, food is cheap, taxis are pretty cheap (from Miraflores to Plaza de Armas was 12 pesos last year, about $5), and it is really safe.

Many areas in Mexico (excluding a few cities like the resort cities) you can get a nice little apartment for $600/month or even a whole 1,500 sqft house if you don't mind being 30 minutes from downtown. Food prices are about the same as USA with some things being more in Mexico but generally non-chain restaurants are cheaper.

If I had only $1500 a month income to live on I would go to Armenia, Colombia....very inexpensive to live....women are surprisingly attractive and receptive.

You aren't going to be a player with a $1500 budget but you will be able to have a couple hot girlfriends. Nightlife sucks so you have to put a lot of value on sleeping with very attractive women or it will get boring.

Also the weather is great.

Armenia is an intriguing choice. Nice women, similar to those of the Circassian legend. I'm not sure what it offers beyond that and adventure, though. I've considered moving to Armenia or Georgia for a few months, even researched a little more than i should have. Nobody really speaks of it, and the few who do seem to do so in the manner of a person who has a secret and doesn't want to share it. I'm intrigued.

Along those lines, why not Greece? You could go up north, near Thessaloniki, but i haven't been there since i was a kid and can't remember much. It's by the sea, not too far from the mountains, the women are stunning in Northern Greece and from cousins of mine who studied there i know it has a great night life. Then again those cousins aren't exactly Daft Punks when it comes to the funk so i'd think twice before vouching for that thought. So......

You have to be able to find stuff for cheaper than $5-700 in Mexico and Peru if you can find it for $300 in Colombia. I'll habe to ask my buddy how much he's paying when I get down there. For some good advice on getting cheap rent in a shared apartment, go to the local university and check out the post its on the bulletin board. I was at Eafit here in Medellin the other day and there had to be about 100 different adds for rooms for rent. Compartoapto is also cheap as hell. It's like airbnb but at local prices rather than gringo prices. Unfortunately they don't use it in Peru.

For $1500 you could live like an imperialist warlord in most of SE Asia. Bali is English-speaking, you'll never run out of stuff to do, and there are plenty of foreign and local women to sample.

I'm white and handsome. Not being arrogant, but I'm handsome enough that I haven't needed game so far, but had my needs satisfied by women frequently enough coming after me or making it very clear they wanted me.

That said, I wouldn't consider Greece; I lived there for two years when I was young (not Greek, just lived there) and the women are exceptionally ugly; I mean some of the ugliest around. Armenian girls are not great either; I mean in my opinion the Armenian face is again, one of the ugliest. Persian girls, on the other hand, are some of the most beautiful women in the world, but don't know about living in Iran...

I've thought about rural Portugal or Spain. I'd love to live a vigorous life in the countryside--not long greasy hair, but mountain hikes, fishing, hunting, and the like. The problem with rural Europe is long-term housing. You get very expensive chalets and cabins and summer homes, and you can't rent something long term for a good price. Second-tier cities in Portugal, like Oporto, are pretty dreadful; Lisbon itself is not great. The women there are not good by the way. If you have suggestions for other parts of Europe, in Sicily, in Asturias, or something like that, then that's very interesting.

By the way, difficult women is OK, but ugly women--that's a dealbreaker. I could live quite well in Sri Lanka or El Salvador, but it would be de facto celibacy...I can't get it up for that.

I am reconsidering your suggestion of Buenos Aires again. Where do you live, and how do you like it?

Is Lima a good city? I hear conflicting things about it; bad air quality, for example, but supposedly the best cuisine in South America. On the other hand, how are the women? Are there lots of beautiful Spaniards, or is it mostly squat indio women?

I am reconsidering Buenos Aires. The black market rate for the peso is 7 to 1, which is pretty good (it was 3 to 1 when I was there last time). Argentinian women are difficult, but I will make a post about how to get them. I've had some reasonable success. Never in nightlife situations though.

I live in London. I lived in Buenos Aires before, not like pretty much everybody else in Palermo or Recoleta, but in San Cristobal - with the pimps and transvestites on the corner. 10 minutes walk to San Telmo Sunday market, 2 minutes from the metro, huge 3 bedroom apartment for just my ex and I, with private terrace. Twas cool.
I'd go back tomorrow and do something along those lines again but i am about to move to China first, not for the chicks, no no, but for the adventure.

Oh, you mentioned a type of country living. Why not Santiago? Sure, it's expensive by Latin American standards but your income would still be sufficient for a mediocre standard of living. Or head down to Bariloche, well, not quite the town itself (too expensive), but one of the surrounding half towns, rent a small house, get yourself a bike, ride into Bariloche every second night to party, spend the rest of the time in the mountains, swimming in the lakes (not!! too cold!) or heading further south into Patagonia on mini adventures (whale watching etc blah blah). What's more, there is a little known train connecting Bariloche, indirectly, with Buenos Aires. It costs next to nothing and would allow you, fate permitting, after all nothing happens without the consent of fate, to go back to the big city and get blown off by Elisea before you go and watch Boca.

I've thought about rural Portugal or Spain. I'd love to live a vigorous life in the countryside--not long greasy hair, but mountain hikes, fishing, hunting, and the like. The problem with rural Europe is long-term housing. You get very expensive chalets and cabins and summer homes, and you can't rent something long term for a good price. Second-tier cities in Portugal, like Oporto, are pretty dreadful; Lisbon itself is not great. The women there are not good by the way. If you have suggestions for other parts of Europe, in Sicily, in Asturias, or something like that, then that's very interesting.

By the way, difficult women is OK, but ugly women--that's a dealbreaker. I could live quite well in Sri Lanka or El Salvador, but it would be de facto celibacy...I can't get it up for that.

I live in London. I lived in Buenos Aires before, not like pretty much everybody else in Palermo or Recoleta, but in San Cristobal - with the pimps and transvestites on the corner. 10 minutes walk to San Telmo Sunday market, 2 minutes from the metro, huge 3 bedroom apartment for just my ex and I, with private terrace. Twas cool.
I'd go back tomorrow and do something along those lines again but i am about to move to China first, not for the chicks, no no, but for the adventure.

I meant I lived in Greece when I was a kid, with my family. At the time I remember everyone in my family remarking on the awful looks of the average Greek girl, I was not chasing girls at the time; and how the girls didn't even shave their legs! My parents considered them complete peasants. I will agree that when a Greek woman is beautiful she can be very beautiful, but the average there is very low.

Bariloche or the surrounding towns is a real attraction for me, and I'm thinking of going there, or driving around until I find a pleasant small German village in Entrerios. I was hoping that someone on this forum might know such a place in Argentina, Chile, or even Europe...I'd take vigorous mountain life; or I'd take city life if it's possible on my budget.

And good city life on $1500 used to be possible; Cape Town, Johannesburg, etc., and Buenos Aires. It used to be possible to live well even in Rio for $1000/month, as strange as that may seem now...and that was not too long ago.

Anyways, with 1.5k/month, your best bet would be SEA. I'd look into BKK, Bali is doable from I've been hearing from guys living there; the Peens would be more than doable and you'd have an awesome time there on that amount. China would be more than doable as well, specially outside Bejing and Shanghai. The DR would also be possible and quite fun too.

Lisbon in Portugual would be a superb option and more than doable on that budget. I'm actually thinking of Lisbon myself for a stint in the near future. It has everything: amazing food, beautiful city, lots of history and culture, lots of foreign girls, specially Brasilians, easy access to the rest of Europe, great weather, fabulous wine and the cheapest cost of living of all the Western Europe's capitals.

Thanks for advice...do you have experience in SE Asia? I know it's doable on that price, but I'm worried those places are shitholes with nothing really to do besides strip clubs. I would find it depressing to live in a place full of fat middle aged German engineers there after prosties, with bad pollution, traffic, and nothing to do other than bars, etc.; how would Bangkok or Manila compare to Rio or Buenos Aires, or maybe take some other city for reference...

I stayed in Lisbon for two months and would recommend against it, it doesn't have everything. The food is not good, except for a couple of restaurants serving varieties of sausages. Th city is beautiful to some extent, at least the old parts are, and some of the other things you say are true but you have to consider the essentials. The people themselves are unpleasant, having all the bad qualities of Northern and Southern Europe, and few of the good qualities. They're closed-off and confrontational. Worse, the girls are squat and ugly for the most part. Not sure about the foreign girls who come there, but I wouldn't bet on the tourist demographic. The Brazilians who go to live there are not going to be necessarily desirable. Overall also the day to day life is boring and there isn't much to do; this is mostly a consequence of the people who live there, I found it depressing. The second-tier cities in Portugal are not good either. I suggest against.

On the other hand I heard very good things about Spain and would strongly consider Valencia or some similar city (NOT Malaga or Costa del Sol) if anyone thinks it's doable for $1500 or a bit more per month.

What kind of lease term are you looking for? If you're willing to commit for six months on a lease, then that is when of course the accommodation price dramatically drops.

As far as southeast asia, malaysia, singapore and philippines all speak english. You could get a pad in Manila for 300 bucks, 400 bucks furnished if you commit to a longer lease. Is the city a giant shithole full of shanty towns? Well yeah. But you can talk to people there in english and have a fun time.

If you're looking for "overall lifestyle" and having a balance between a livable city and having easy cute women, then SEA is probably not your best bet for a long term situation, despite the fact english is spoken in three key countries. Cities in the Philippines are basically dirty shanty towns punctuated by shopping malls all over.

Thailand is definitely better in terms of infrastructure, but the problem is language barrier/cultural barrier. This is going to be true of China/Korea/Japan even more so, despite the fact that those three countries are much more liveable, while still having easy women. The key is really language ability in the far east.


The main thing is committing to a longer lease, and eating most meals in. I guess that's basic budgeting, but if you do those things, then most of the second world is game for what you're looking for.

Budapest is the cheapest city in "Near in" eastern europe. You can get extremely cheap apartments, even for short term leases there.

Also, eastern Germany, Berlin, Leipzig, Dresden are extremely cheap for accomodation. The language barrier being lower, this would be more appealing to me than say Poland.

Kiev is pretty dope too, as far as eastern europe goes. You can get a studio apt in a perfect location for 550-600 bucks/month with a longer lease. And thats for the best location possible right next to the core nightlife area. prices will drop as you move to a less central place. Language barrier here is very steep though. You need conversational russian. Cost of living is pretty low. You won't spend much on vodka that's for sure.

I will always have a budget of atleast 1500 disposable income I can travel around on... Hopefully by the time travel comes back into play I will have closer to a $2500 a month dispoable income for traveling

Malta is very cheap... it's a small island though. But something of an exciting vibe, with 400,000 population, lots of english language students from all over, and a fair few expats from around europe. If I stay here I'm aiming to do it for around $1200 a month, but possibly just renting a room rather than a whole apartment.

I've definitely had thoughts about Armenia... Dig the cost of living/women/culture. I've heard that the Caucuses is a sexually conservative region, which would be my only reservation
