For all you frequent European traveller's
-What is a good gift to bring to girls, family, etc?
I'm leaning towards the obvious chocolates, but what else works?

Going to Europe and from the US I assume? Get some Euro Haribo candy, they are way better than the US version. Also local beers, chocolate, Kinder eggs (don't get caught by customs!), jellies, maybe a creative bottle opener...

Buy booze and food at duty free. It's not worth it to carry shit around with you.

People that care should be happy enough to see your pictures and the satisfaction that you had a good time.

I usually buy a piece of artwork whereever I travel. If it doesn't easily fit, then I'll pay the extra to have it shipped home. Any reputable artist would be willing to work out a fair price for their artwork shipped to you back home.

I buy rosaries in a cathedral that are unique to that cathedral or country. they are super compact, travel light and get a good reception. I buy a bunch in a bag and just give them out. just for close fam though. I've been going frequently enough people don't expect things when I come back (or I don't really care to bring stuff back as I travel light).

watch out for bottle openers, i bought a few of them and every X-ray thought they were knives and I had to get hand inspected at a few airports because of it.

I vote for booze. If are bringing back gifts for kids then foreign coins and notes are usually good. It is going to sound odd, but things like toothpaste and chips that are in weird and unique flavors are also great gifts.

Buy fridge magnets showing the location where you've holidayed,then give them to all your travel-hater friends so every time they go to the fridge it sends them into hate-rage.

I used to do the fridge magnet thing but after you get too many it gets annoying to look at in a clean kitchen + scraches up the fridge after they stay long (usually the magnets are pretty cheap crap).

Picture postcards are cheap, unique, and extremely underrated. People absolutely love getting them in the mail, and you can write a personalized message.

I'm even planning to start sending them back to myself from every place I visit with a note to my future self. A journal of sorts that I can look at when I'm old and settled down.

Whatever you do, just don't waste your money on tacky, overpriced souvenirs.
