I think she is popular because she is classically beautiful (her face with make up) and she is normal (overweight) at the same time.

People love this. They can marvel at her beauty but they can also relate to her as a normal person.

She seems more realistic. Women will admire her because she is confident even though she is overweight. Guys consider her more realistic because she looks alot like the girl next door who is carrying an extra 10 pounds.

She doesn't represent perfection, she represents normal.

Some models can get away with this. Sometimes perfection seems bland and flaws add character. Beauty and sex appeal can be weird sometimes.

Just to clarify: Not saying I wouldn't hit it. Kate Upton is a solid 7, and I've gone for girls lower on the scale than that. My standards aren't that high (I've had peers call them low, actually).

What I am questioning is the notion that we should all want to "bang in a nanosecond", as though she were unquestionably and irresistibly attractive in a way that nearly every other girl is not.

The reality is that she's a cute girl like many I see walking around my campus, and I don't see myself wanting to bang her any more rapidly than them. In fact, I can think of several girls on my campus I'd prefer to get to over her, and my school is not Florida State, UT-Austin or some other massive university known for hot chicks.

That's my point-she isn't that special, at least not to me. Maybe the fact that she seems sort of plain is appealing to some like Gio said ("Girl Next Door" and all that), but I'm not feeling it. I don't see any reason to go gaga over this girl when I can make personal contact with women I honestly feel are just as attractive, if not more so.

And I'm saying that there are like a 100 girls on my campus who could cause the exact same reaction in me, and probably 6 or so more on top of that who'd create much stronger reactions. And that's just on my non-hottie-mecca, stuffy Ivy league campus. There are probably 1000 chicks walking around in each of Tallahasse, State College or Ann Arbor (among many other places) that'd meet that standard. If by "woman like her" you refer to her fame/celebrity, then you're right, she's definitely out of reach for 95% of dudes here. If by "woman like her" you mean physical appearance, I wouldn't bet on it. Her looks aren't elite IMO.

Unless your primary criteria for judging physical appearance are breast size, height, and the possession of the blonde hair/blue eye combo, Kate Upton probably won't get that high on your list. Face is just ok, body is just ok, waist-to-hip ratio is just ok, ass is average, legs are average, etc, etc. She's a cute girl (7/10 imo), but there are plenty of those walking around and plenty of guys here have been with them.
