I have been off the grid for a while working on some heavy projects, but I wanted to get back to everyone here and report back on Riga, Latvia like I said I would.

Incredible experience!!! I keep hearing from various sources over, and over how Russian cats pick fights over jealous rages over local women. As I prepare for my trip to Ukraine, now in April 2011 when it warms up, I am prepared to not only swoop, but to fight a few rounds as well, something I never had to do in any other country. I started taking Russinan language courses, and of course, started practicing MMA with my younger brother, just to be ready for a rumble in Ukraine.

When I was in Slovenia, mad cats gave me dirty looks, and some may have shouted shit in Slovenian I did not understand, but none were ever as ballsy enough to flat out swing at me. Russians are something else I see.

Latvia is on my radar, and will head to Lithuania and Ukraine first for some basic roughneck training.

If it's any consolation, I lost count of the # of Russian guys who hollered or glared at me in jealousy when I was with a white girl. I don't know what ethnicity you are, but a lot of Russian guys definitely have some racial animosity/jealousy issues deeply ingrained inside them.

Yeah, it sounded like you have a similar experience in Slovenia, but were able to persevere. True G's always do.

You definitely gave me a good tip to learn salsa, and I will return the favor: work on some kind of martial art.

Of course, it is always the last resort, but it can come in handy. Especially when a big Russian with a bald head and leather jacket is coming for you and he can't be reasoned with.

Great questions.

As far as the "physical confrontation tip" goes, I think a lot of it was because I was Dolo and going for the gold. Keep in mind, I haven't been in a street fight for years, and I am always super respectful of other cultures. I really think that people thought I might be an easy target.

If I had one good friend watching my back, I am sure I would not have had any issues.

That being said, my hat goes off to anyone going there by themselves and making it happen. It wasn't easy for me. At all. I kind of feel like the place kicked my *ss a little.

As far as other ethnicities, I mentioned in a story that there were some UK guys that were Ethiopian, Pakistani and Indian (all grew up in UK, British accents etc). Girls really were excited to snap photos with them. They weren't doing that with me at all. I would have denied them the photo op anyways, but that's neither cocaine dreams nor Supreme Teams in Jamaica Queens.

These cats dressed pretty smooth and were cool guys. They talked a big Game as well, but I never really saw them closing.

My guess is you ran into "sex tourist" flak. So many guys have been going to Riga from back in the day, doing women who were hot and easy compared to just about anywhere on Earth outside of SE Asia, that the entire local population there has built up a....caution...to put it lightly, of guying parachuting in.

You still got some, so that's great, because after 3 physical confrontations and freezing weather, you would have found me in a warm cafe reading a book under a blanket and staying far away from the nightclubs.

Mixx, if you get into a fight, all you need to do is remember 4 things 1) Hit first 2) Make it a headbutt if possible 3) follow up with a knee to the balls 4) Get the fuck out of there

MMA is great but in the street you know you can't tap out of a fight. Esp if there is multiple attackers. You don't want to start grappling with one guy while the rest of his buddies are kicking the shit out of you. I'd say work your standup and takedown defense if you're serious about it.

There's a great Bas Rutten street defense video you can find on Youtube.

Highly recommended...lots of headbuts, elbows, and using nearby objects like ash trays and glass cups if necessary.

I'm pretty sure he knows what's up as he's a mixed martial artist who also used to be a bouncer and once took on all the bouncers of a club in Stockholm with his bare hands (while they had weapons).

Yeah I think you are right. I definitely wasn't greeted with "open arms" in Riga by guys or girls. At least not to the level that many cats make it seem on the internet. Still I used every tactic in the book to not seem like I was there just to swoop girls.

Hell, even one of my main friends didn't really mention it before I went. When I got back I told him I got in three "fights" and he was said, "Oh yeah, that doesn't really surprise me".

I told him, "Why didn't you tell me before I went j*ckass". He didn't warn me about scams either. Idiot.

Believe me, I was ready to bone out. I mentioned on one of the stories that I had two fly girls texting me on my last night and I just shut off my phone. Of course I would love to have that night back now.

Good call. I was super lucky that all my situations weren't multiple attackers. And I am a person that has been on the receiving end of a few three on ones.

It is kind of crazy to even talk about fighting so much as that hasn't been a part of my life for ages. I just want to warn people. Hell, when I got back I read way worse stories on the internet from Riga. People getting maced and hit will baseball bats.

Yeah, I did make the attempt a few times to see things from an average EE guy's perspective:

They usually make far less money than even an average Western country cubicle slave
They don't have very good style
They don't have very good game (apart from being aggressive and treating women like objects, which may work on Russian women but not really on say, Baltic girls)
They're treated like 2nd class citizens in places like London
They're shunned by Western European women (but perhaps not in America, where "whiteness" is valued higher than over in Europe)

Finally, they watch girls from their own country, who they had free reign over, being swooped by foreign guys left and right for 19 years.

Yeah, you can see how inferiority complex and aggression can be fueled by their lot in life.

As for Russia/Ukraine - I am not too scared of going there, not saying I am tough guy but I can handle myself. I would grab a friend or two just to play safe. The skinheads are beating up helpless little immigrants who they know they can beat.

She might have given you a good advice. At least in Russia/Ukraine McDonalds is NOT a place like in US - a half-empty room with couple of fat ugly women eating. It is usually a light and full place full of people. It is the place where a lot of young students often gather together. It is warm in winter and cold in summer, the restroom is clean, nobody kicks you out if you sit there for hours, which is rare in Russia. Also the food is cheap but still tasty (to them), and they bring their own liquor. If you're into 17-18yo girls (remember that age of consent there is 16, so 17yo is ok unless she's a paid escort), it may be a pretty good pickup place, at least worth checking.

To be honest, this happens quite often. So often that there is a special Russian word for that - "dynamo". Being a cynical asshole as I am, I'd assume they were worried that if you start fighting, the police will come and arrest both of you, and they would have to pay the bill. But of course there is more than that. Russian girls are used to drunk fights, and know it could get ugly very fast, with dead bodies around. Also when the fight starts, no party can retreat from it, otherwise they'd lose face. A girl interrupting the fight lets both parties to save face, and end up the fight.

4) is extremely important. Not only dealing with local police simply sucks and will cost you a lot of money simply because you are assumed to have money, but in case the bloke you hit was a son of some important person (like an elected official, a police officer or a high rank gang member), and he got some severe issues, you'll likely regret it deeply for the rest of your life - with the only bright thing that your life won't be too long. Too many suicides committed in ex-USSR prisons.

It is very rare in Ukraine, unless you hang out with drunk guys and let the situation escalate. Even there a good way to defuse the situation is to buy them drinks (don't offer, just order a bottle of vodka). Even if they plan to murder you right there, they'll have to finish the bottle first. It is the culture. And half way through the bottle they'll call you brother, and start calling their female friends to come to meet you.

Better prepare to consume a lot of strong alcohol AND still be able to score. You don't want a 90lbs girl overdrink you, and a guy who can drink "as a man" and still fuck a female after that gonna be a legend there!

I definitely want to hit Russia/Ukraine maybe sometime next year and I do know that when I get there, I'll go with a Russian to make the process as smooth as possible. Btw, are you planning on going to Ukraine next year? If yes, let me know and I'd be interested to join you. Maybe we could organize a Roosh forum visit there with a 2-3 guys and a native russian like Oldnemesis. Anyone up for it?

Word of advice, Ukrainians/Russians almost don't talk shit before a fight, if they do it's quite short before a fight is started. They also travel in packs, they don't give a shit that you are alone and don't have a weapon. Also just because the guy is smaller doesn't mean he won't get into a fight. He might have a chain, or a brick to smash over the head. You piss off a Russian and he'll come and give you a beating in your own house.

I'm definitely down...how about posting a meetup thread to get things started? I think if we went as a group there would be strength in numbers and a local in tow would be well worth it.

I know you're talking about Ukraine here, but I once saw a documentary on the prison system in Russia. It makes San Quinton look like Boy Scout Jamboree. You do NOT wanna go to prison in that part of the world!

That's how a 'room' in Russian jail looks like. No, it is not a dining room, it is the room people live 23 hours a day (and one hour walk). Yes, it is really that crowded, there are more beds than people so they queue to sleep.

BTW, while searching for a good picture I've found a semi-naked photo session made by an activist girl of NBP, a party banned in Russia. You'd probably be surprised by what the user comments on that page say - basically two of them say that the girl is so fucking ugly, fat and has lame boobs. Those guys didn't really see fat girls I'd guess. I'd rate her at 6.5-7.

It is unlikely but possible. I travel to Romania for business a few times a year, and it is one hour flight from Bucharest to Kiev. However typically I only stay there 2-3 days; remember that I lived there for 25 years, so I'd rather do Thailand again, or may be to Laos/Vietnam.
