What are sample costs of what you are paying by chance? I know bottled water in Brazil is quite expensive at 1-1.50 USD per 1.5 Liter. How much are each drinks at bars, discos, lounges, and clubs? I remember paying 15 Reals per expensive cocktail at some places in Florianopolis which was ridiculous. Other places were cheaper though.

Mock Itinerary for Late May 2013 as I am visiting Brazil around that time:

Already Booked
Salvador da Bahia (3 Days) - Cultural sightseeing
Praia de Pipa & Natal (5 Days) - Sightseeing, beach relaxing, and perhaps some gaming if I come across some good looking touristy chicks
Curitiba 3 Months - Graduate project there, more advanced grammar classes, definitely gaming solo, but will also have social circle & girls funneled in my direction. Perhaps I'll find some contractual work or side gig for extra cash & to meet other chicks.

Will Definitely Book
Belo Horizonte/Ouro Preto - It's not a matter of if, but when. This is something that will be purchased while living in Curitiba. Ouro Preto for day trip Wednesday or Thursday. That leaves Thursday, Friday, and Saturday for chicks I may have pipelined through internet dating sites or for unscripted cold gaming method. This is a trip that is going to test my abilities as I will be mentally prepared to pass this exam.
Balneariu de Camboriu - I don't see a data sheet so I'll create one if nobody has already on this forum. I have no idea of what this place is going to be like but my friend from Curitiba actually works here so I'll have a very big social scene to connect to. From the sounds of it, the social scene could be more along the lines of "female friends" opposed to chicks I could immediately pull for the bang. A test of a different kind.
Floripa - Yeah I really have no desire to go back here. Just visiting a girl from my past for a weekend perhaps.
Foz do Iguacu - Touristy point of view, I'll go. Whether I'll have enough time here to game random chicks is another question.

Probable Bookings
Sao Paulo - Candidate number 1 if the time and money are right. I know some chicks in the fashion industry here as one comes from money and comes off as DTF. Then there is another not as good looking recent graduate from her college who is definitely easier. Met her in a hostel in Austria. Cold gaming will also be a test bc I have to contribute to this forum anyways. I could always exclude Sampa until I start my new job Fall 2013 which would be stable & generous with regards to vacation time. Perhaps this is a place I'd rather book for a bang mission with a full-time salary coming through? Can't lie as I'm very eager to meet some of the forum members living in Sampa as well.
Small town Sao Paulo (Campinas, Socorro, Sao Luis dos Campos) - Can't seem to explain but I'm very intrigued by small town Sao Paulo chicks. Time is my biggest enemy here.
Manaus - If flying within the country was as cheap as flying Easyjet Ryan Air, this would be a definite. Both time and money are my enemy here.
Porto Alegre - Been there done that. But my flag was through pipelining opposed to pulling a random chick at one of the many worthy nightlife venues here. I like this place but time is quite the obstacle. Could always come back in future just like Sampa.
Vitoria - Time is my enemy here again within a 3 month span. If I could somehow do BH and Vitoria on the same swing. Doubtful this May.
Juiz de Fora - When seeing friends in Rio next time around, this destination is a short bus ride away for a random bang mission. Likely excluding it this time around.

Some fun obstacles lie ahead...

15 reals for a drink sounds right. Paid 13.50 for caipirinhas last night. And that was at a place that is supposed to be cheap.

A small bag of peanuts at the store: 16 reals. That is crazy! Food at the supermarket is expensive.

The hostel I'm staying at cost 31 reals at first, now it's 45 per night. Thank God I didn't plan on several weeks here.

Had an interesting conversation with some highly educated locals yesterday. Lawyer, architect, some photoshop person and a banker. They all recommended going further up north. There I would find the "real" Brazil. I wish I had a phone, could've taken some notes or taped the conversation.

I paid 50 for a dorm bed in sampa. Yb13 let's maybe arrange a meet up also with another members in sampa. Are you starting your job there in fall? I will be there from beginning of march for 1 year at least.

Actually starting my new job in Texas around Sept/October 2013 along with my graduate classes during that time.

Brazil will however be Late-May till Late August with most of my time in Curitiba. If I have the funds & timing right, Sampa is a must for me.

Since you're going to BR in March, I think it might be best if you got a head start in meeting the members in Sampa 1st...

Watch out, Campinas is not a small town. It's the third biggest city in the state and 14th biggest in the country, with more than 1 million in population. Also, it's home to many international companies that left SP, and a lot of people from SP frequent the town. Not much value there.

Also, do you mean São José dos Campos?

São Paulo is a city to go to if you have local connections or recommendations. I stated this in my datasheet and I have to stress it again. It's just too big and it is too easy to fall in the gringo traps.

You're right about the connections. I met up with a local girl and we went to a place with decent prizes. I'd say 50% of Norway.

I believe the prices Roosh is referring to are from the capitol, Oslo, which is VERY first tier compared to the rest of the country. I'd say it's Norways only 'big' city, and a city I'd never go out in. I don't even take my flights from there. The city planners have been high for years. But the prices are still correct for Oslo, but it gets cheaper in smaller places. Oslo should have about 600 000 people in total, my city has 70 000. Prices will vary.

My first impression at the supermarket here was that prices ranged from good to bad compared to Norway. 18 reals for a tiny bag of peanuts? In brazil? Maybe the brand was crazy expensive... can't say I found anything at the store here to be 'cheap' compared to Norway.

Restaurant prices got better as soon as I followed local advice instead of hostel advice though.

We we're staying in Vila Madalena.

You forgot one book East Meets West...Bang Brazil by Roosh V, lol. Just got done reading it. What a great one. I'm pretty sure those that reviewed the book negatively on amazon.com didn't even read it, but I'll get to that in another thread if possible.

I'm not sure if you need the answer manual as I didn't, but why not if you are willing to shell out the money for it.

For future reference, I'd also recommend John Whitlam's Modern Brazilian Portuguese Paperback edition for more advanced studies afterwards. That's the book I'm using now, but it's being delayed as I'm taking my last Spanish course starting Tuesday again.

I have just been to vidigal and the exact same location of the hostel.

It has good views, I took some pictures, but aside from me, no one else was there. Probably no one knew, or people are afraid of favelas I don't know.

On the way up I took a moto, people on the way were residents, and it was not touristic at all, I am not sure how safe it is but I didn't feel too safe at first, but I may feel different if I live there.

The thing about investing in favela is that you are not sure of the long term prospects, as the police might leave after Olympics and it would turn dangerous again. But short term, if you have bought before yes, prices have climbed. The question now is, wether vidigal will be transformed to a luxury area, and this would take a whole new regeneration project, not just build 2 apartments so it depends on the government policy.

I went there because in city of men the first scene was shot there, but actually the scene was closer than the hostel to view leblon, it must have been on some ones house and you probably need a local to take you there if you want the exact view as in the movie.

People in rio still think favela is a poor neighbourhood, and no one goes unless there is someone to meet there. It's not like going to botafogo or copa for a stroll and some sushi.

It depends, each club has a different policy.

There's usually 3 different ways it can go down. Let's say they all cost R$100 to go in:
1) R$100 entry fee, open bar inside.
2) R$100 entry fee, you get R$100 to spend with drinks inside (usually drinks go from R$15-35 in places like this)
3) R$100 is the entry fee and you get nothing inside

These are the 3 main options that bars apply to their nights, but there may be variations, like R$100 cover charge and R$50 to consume inside. Clubs that charge such high cover charges (open bar or not) are higher end here, and will be populated with posh girls and playboys/bros. Scenario no.2 is very common, scenario no.1 isn't usual, and scenario no.3 is for very high end joints (you'll see places charging men R$250 just to step foot inside).

Always check the website or facebook page of the club and put your name on the list.

I'm personally planning a big trip to Brazil for the World Cup, could stay for a month. This has been a plan of mine since the World Cup was announced so I am pretty motivated to see it out and go.

Nothing to do about the rising costs but I do have a friend that lives about 40 minutes north of Rio on the beach that I will probably stay with for a couple days. I've been slacking on my Rosetta Stone but I'm setting aside time to get back on that as well as moving to an area this summer where Portuguese is the most common language so that should give me an opportunity to practice my Portuguese in everyday settings.

All in all I'm planning on setting aside 5-7,000 dollars for the trip (including airfare + tickets to games). This will be my first overseas trip in 8 years but I'm working on a plan to have enough passive income so I will be able to travel at will in the future.

Think 5-7 G's will be enough for 3-4 weeks? I obviously don't know yet where in Brazil I'll be going but chillin in smaller towns in the Northeast sounds appealing to me.

You should try Joao Pessoa. I am heading there for the World Cup because it lies in betweeen, approximately 1.5 hours from Recife and 3 hours from Natal by bus( both are host cities). Accomodation will be much easier and cheaper to arrange than staying in a host city.

The important thing is you have easy access to 2 different stadiums that will have many games from 2 different qualifying groups.

This would be a hell of a bet, not just a real estate deal but wagering on the ability of Rio, its government, militias, etc etc to get its act together permanently, post 2016 olympics. They'll have the growth, visibility, motivation, and hell, even oil money. Maybe this is when they finally get it right??? Looks good on paper, but still scares me.
