As someone who has lived in several of NY's boroughs since the age of 9, I'm getting nostalgic for some good, NYC movies.

I'll start off with:

I saw the 25th Hour by Spike Lee recently.
Raw, violent, in some sort of way red-pill, interesting characters.
Actually I don't even know if I suggest it or not.

If you haven't seen it yet check out "Summer Of Sam". Another Spike Lee flick about the Son of Sam murders in 1977 NYC. It's more about the times and a group of friends rather than the killer himself, but it's fantastic.

Kinda agree. I thought it was pretty "meh." It was originally a play and I think that that's it biggest flaw as a film: too static and uncinematic.

Shame (2011) - Takes place in New York and has a pretty good New York feel to it.

Belly (1998)

It's a good movie and a hood classic based in New York. It stars Nas and DMX but its not some cheap looking low budget movie. It's actually one of the best movies I've ever scene in regards to cinematography

Don't forget Taxi Driver.

When I first visited NYC around 1976 or '77 it was just like the Warriors. The subways were totally covered in grafitti and dudes were running around in leather vests looking like gang members. I was terrified and my dad had to lay down the law that we weren't taking cabs everywhere. I got lost in the crowd visiting the Statue of Liberty, good times!
