Kamaki, do you think things can escalate in violence/war? If you look at history the poor countries with lots of males attack the rich countries with lots of females.

Greece will attack Bulgaria/Romania? :-)
EU will attack Russia?

Top of European Union is extremely corrupt. Will greece/france/spain/italy/portugal fight against the corruption?

I predict civil war and likely territorial amputation of Greece similar to Serbia.

What do you mean by amputation?
Greece dissolving into smaller states?

When? Who will be the "bogeymen" whom the problems are blamed on?

I guess there are plenty of billionaires/centimillionaires who pay-- relative to their lifestyle-- virtually no tax. There always has to be a "villain" to blame things on when someone wants violence. People don't really like it.

I highly doubt hate against bureaucrats and state workers will be a viable tactic, as most families probably have someone working for the govt, bus drivers, police, etc.

It seems to be foreigners, doesn't it?

A true uprising against the moneyed elite seems very unlikely.

Notice the lack of response to the question "When."?

Because when doomsayers say "When"; they can clearly be shown to be wrong. Also, in this case "Civil War" could be reframed to be "Strikes everywhere, it's a mess, it's just like a civil war."

In less sensational news, another deal to cut Greek debt has been made; politicians don't sit around letting things descend into chaos if they have any desire to maintain their positions, which are very cushy indeed.

http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/11/2...J920121127

OT: If someone can explain to me why someone like Assad, who could be fucking every model in Switzerland who doesn't read the papers, hasn't taken off from Syria and said "Seeya" --you'll have my everlasting gratitude. What are these tyrants thinking? !

Also, Greek govt bonds have been RISING, an counter-indicator to collapse ( until you brew a conspiracy theory why)

http://www.nasdaq.com/article/greek-debt...1123-00155

People get a lot of attention for forecasting doom, and often coincidentally are selling a product that is the one thing that will save you.

Fortunately, most sane people besides the Assads of the world are diligently trying to make things work-- very few people except arms merchants benefit from chaos.

Markets get a lot of things right and a lot of things wrong. Throw in massive government participation in "free markets" and you have a whole web that's difficult to unravel. I'm not in the permabear camp. But I wouldn't extrapolate rising Greek government bonds to a definitive prediction of national stability and prosperity.

How will Greece break up? i am genuinely interested from an economic analyst role point of view.

Jugoslvia I can understand, they have groups that spoke different languages, had different religions and a violent history between them.. i.e. namely Croats and Serbs.

How diverse are the groups in Greece? i thought they were faily homogenous in terms of speaking the same Greek dialect and being orthodox.

Are there large numbers of Macedonain speakers in Thessolonaki or something that would lead to Greece splitting?

It will break up in the same way Spain will break up to Catalonia and Spain.

OK, but don't the catalan speak a different language, thus able to identify with a different culture?

That is why I mentioned Macedonians and Thessalonaki... don't they call the place 'Solun'?

RE: The Upside of the European Economic Meltdown
In this crisis the disparities and asymmetries are very important.Let's see some of them:
1.Exports disparity.Germany has an export revenue of 1.4 trillion euro,Greece has only 12 billion euro exports.
2.Culture assymentry:Greece is a Balkan country with Ottoman ways,Germany is a western country with developed, efficient ways.
3.IQ assymetry. The average German has an IQ of 108,the average Greek has an IQ of 94.

All these factors are very important because they lead to a very crucial consequence. That Germans have all aces in their sleeves.Meaning there is absolutely no way for Greece to confront the Germans. We talk here about brutal domination.
In fact this is reflected in elites' conditions. Our elites have been so thoroughly and repeatedly humiliated by the Germanics the latter have turned them into box sacks. Now they cry for help and the Germans push and punch even harder. The more weak the enemy the more the German pushes. It is natural punishment by protestant law.It is like an orgy with one fucker.
Sometimes I enjoy the process to see our elites humiliated and fucked. On the other hand the point is that the fucked sense passes to the nation.Since the nation does not want to have this feeling it reacts with the classic row of 1.denial then 2.anger then 3.depression then 4.acceptance.However the deep anarchistic nature and dynamite Balkan complexure will lead to developments because in any case the Greeks are not going to react as usual peaceful sheep.

Meaning the more the elites get the penis, the more the ordinary Greeks separate themselves mentally and culturally from the elites and the smaller Greece becomes in terms of significance the greater these people become in their views. So at one point they will feel the absolute superiority to proceed without limits to a destruction clusterfuck. It is like the elites gradually lose their legitimizaton which passes to the extremes as natural personifications of the mob desires.Extremism will rule in Greece for a while and it will be these persons the Germans will have to cope up with it in the future.Persons devoid of any ''high'' human quality and full of rage and revenge will.

How does the average German have an IQ of 108. That would make them the smartest country in the world. In 99% of the statistics I've read Germany has between a 99 and 102 average IQ. So the assymetry while it exists is not a large as you are suggesting.

Yes,the Germans and the Dutch are the smartest nations in the world. It is obvious when you visit.(I talk only about academic intelligence). However Germans appear as sadist and vicious, they make bad use of this intelligence when they negotiate with weaker parts.I mean they win the negotiations but the impression they leave is not very favourable. In this case they totally played out the Greek elites and mastered in every part.
They are also based on the fear they create but they know southern Europeans can be really scared and lose their temper and rational thinking easily.German bluff has worked very far.The more we retreat the more they look upon us.I would say our elites have shit their pants. When our representatives meet the Germans it is one way orgy.

RE: The Upside of the European Economic Meltdown
What has happened in Europe is basically this: Germany is a pimp, and he wanted to fuck Spain, Greece, Portugal and Italy who were a little bit naughty but in the end we were just cock-teasing them. What Germany did was basically give us dope for free in the beginning, then at a very low price, and once we became addicts at an stratospheric price. Right now we are pawning whatever worth we have to pay the debt back before we get punished, but is so big that there is no way we will do it. Instead Germany has been so kind that has let us pay in flesh and now we have become Germany's bitches. That's the issue, long things make short. But remember something, Spain my sink, but we are big enough to take the rest of Europe with us to the bottom so we won´t be alone down there Wink

About a possible civil war here. Consider since we kicked the frogs out up to now we had: 3 civil wars in the 18th century: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carlist_Wars, one attempt to create a confederation of cities-states in the ancient greek way http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cantonal_Revolution the fall of the monarchy and the rise of a republic, the restoration of the monarchy, one military dictature and the big civil war that you all must have heard about and which was a prelude to the WWII: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spanish_Civil_War None of this wars were between peoples or territories, fights had an ideological background or were between two factions of claimants to the throne. All peoples and territories in Spain has suffered equally tirany and opression from the government. There were regional elections in Catalonia last month, the conservative catalan nationalist had been in the office for two years and was losing popular support because the cuts in health and education budgets, corruption, taxes, etc. There were fierce demonstrations of people against their policies to the point that the president of the autonomous government had to arrive once to the parlament on a helicopter because it was surrounded by protesters! Then he shifted the speech to Madrid rob us, and central government shifted to catalans are bla bla bla and it was the perfect courtain to hide the cases of corruption that are popping up like mushrooms and their lack of control on the situation.

About cultural conflicts Spain was even in the most repressive periods pretty much more tolerant than other western countries; for instance the situation of minority languages in UK (scotish, welsh, isle of mannish?, irish or cornish), Germany (Sorbish, Frisian, Danish, Bavarian, Platt-Deutsch...) not to talk about France (Occitan, Corsic, Breton, Basque, Catalan, Alsatian...) where local and minority languages has been almost anihilated or have no legal status nor take part in the official curriculum in schools, high schools and universities.

In short, anything is possible, specially in times when resources are scarce and people have to fight over the leftovers, and there is a strong nationalistic feeling in the periphery of the country but: we have no radical far right organized scene with members in the parliament as they do in Greece and most European countries, we don´t have a strong communist party, our anarchist scene is small, most people are like sheeps voting PP or PSOE in the way americans do with Republicans and Democrats (and their regional nationalist versions), and people are much more moderate than they're in France or Greece. I hesitate an armed conflict could take place here, if it would thinkgs should be already pretty fucked up in the continent and in the case it took place place I would bet for an ideological war (left vs right) more than some kind of independence war.

She go crazy, is hamster!

RE: The Upside of the European Economic Meltdown
In reality the crisis in Greece and Europe started with the December 2008 riots in Athens.I will analyze later what happened then and how black December still determines the developments.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2008_Greek_riots

So what happened? Why a relatively stable and prosperous economy as Greek was in 2008 had these unexpected riots take place?Still the middle class has not found a proper explanation. However black December is the key to understand the crisis that followed.

RE: The Upside of the European Economic Meltdown
Let's start with the common theories about December:
1.Leftist theories:A riot of people who were harmed by capitalist development.A direct result of income inequality.
2.Middle theories:A riot of youth against brutal police suppression.
3.Right theories:A riot of criminal elements, illegal immigrants and anarchists who wanted to destabilize democracy.
4.Conspiracy theories:A colpo grosso organized by CIA and Al Quaida.US wanted the prime minister Karamanlis to lose power in Greece because he intended to sign with Russians the South Stream agreement(physical gas route through Burgas-Alexandroupoli) in Greece which was rather harmful for American interests. Moreover Al Quaida wanted to destabilize the region in favor of Islamics.

Me too. It'll become the DR of Europe. Tons of girls standing around bored and broke. Couple of beers and some particle meat and your in like flynn. Just went though the couch cushions and came up with 42 cents. That should be enough to stay for 6 months and crush all the local hairy girl talent.
