Would not recommend Emergency. There is little practical information in it. Just a lot little vignettes and celebrity name dropping if you are into that kind of thing.

It's about how algorithms caused the financial crisis and how it's being used to take over even complex jobs like diagnosing patients more accurately than the best physicians. Frightening if you're going into anything outside of computing. Seems like AI and machine learning alongside programming is where it's at en la futura.

Is there a reason you don't recommend The Millionaire Next Door? I actually read it a couple of years ago for one of my finance projects and I think it was actually a decent book with sound advice.

Don't spend money that you have
Don't buy flashy things you don't need
How traditional families (Husband and Wife) are better off financially.

I liked the book and think it may actually help our debt/credit card crazy North American society.

One: Ghost In The Wires by Kevin Mitnick.

It gets really draggy and contains a lot of technical jargon that I don't understand which is never explained.

But it contains some good tips based on Mitnick's own failures and shortcomings if you're evading the law. The main thing that I've taken from it is 'if you're doing something that you know is illegal and you can do it by yourself, then don't get other people involved - even if they appear to be doing exactly the same thing'.

Trusting people in general is what got Mitnick caught. Don't do it.

The reason I don't recommend the book is the fact that in my opinion the authors took an idea that could have been expressed in no more than 5 pages and stretched it over 200+ pages.

The idea was to cut your spending by not trying to buy fancy stuff and not living by more than you etc...

The rest of the book is just the same thing being repeated over different contexts like, average guy spend x amount and study says milionaire spent x amount. That is just my opinion of course.

"Breakthrough Advertising" - Eugene Schwartz. Excellent book about writing long form sales letters. Not an easy read.

"The God Delusion" by Dawkins. It won't convince religious types but he makes a good argument.
