Western Ukraine(towns)
Anyone know good 2nd tier cities in Western Ukraine? A lot has been said about Lviv, but that was pre-Euro and unfortunately the city has changed for the worse....so anything besides Lviv city.

I'm interested in the oblasts of Volyn and Lviv. Both are rural, Ukrainian speaking, border areas, and low salaries of about 250 USD.

Also, anyone have good resources for studying Ukrainian language ?(books/websites/audio, etc.)

I have been in Ternopil. The poorest city in Ukraine not good at all.(half of populaton has emigrated).Very few women in sight.I have reasons to believe Lutsk,Rovno and Khmelnitski are better.

Yes, Lutsk sounds promising. Ternopil is not a border area and is governed by right wing nationalists.

I will be paying a visit to Lutsk...a short train ride away from Poland, and on wikipedia it appears to be a nice historic town.

RE: Western Ukraine(towns)
Been to Uzhgorod a few years back. Nice old centre but only very small, nothing like Lviv. I went to the worst disco I have ever been to in my life which is situated in the basement of the old Soviet monolith there ( I think it was called the Hotel Uzhgorod ). It was like stepping back into the 1970's and full of the ugliest women I've ever seen. Strange.

I spent three days in a small town in the mountains called 'Vinigradov'. Stupidly cheap, nice hotel in centre of town but I got absolutely nowhere with my approaches, far too conservative.

I think some places are still good, but require some longer term stays, steady approach.

Conservatism is good sometimes, it makes for loyal girlfriends.

Uzgorod is very small and worthless in terms of action.I have also been there.
Apart from women the only reason to stay on Ukraine is the raw ukrainian fish(just kidding).

Spartan, if you think that Ukrainian is necessary, do a search on thepiratebay[dot]se for 'Ukrainian Language'.

Spartan the only way that Lviv has changed for the worst is that prices have gone up somewhat.

Get a Ukrainian teacher for 4 euros an hour.

you may want to check out Ivano-Frankivsk, from what I understand this city is the real crown jewel of West Ukraine, and one of the best places to live in all of Ukraine,
