I commented on the yahoo article about this and was quickly downvoted to oblivion for suggesting that he might have (albeit clumsily) meant the distinction between real rape and Assange ™ rape. Got plenty of comments saying I'm an idiot, horrible person, and that the number of false rape accusations is only 2% (without any sources, ofc.). Hah.

1. The Assange case is not even nearly rape.

2. I-was-drunk-and-now-regret-being-a-slut rape isn't actual rape. Is it ethical? That's a different question and something we as a society should have frank discussions about. In retrospect a lot of people are coming to the conclusion that the sexual revolution and everyone doing what they feel like isn't really a form of enpowerment.

3. Being forcibly pinned down and penetrated, that is rape. Death penalty when beyond a doubt.

What bothers me about this politician is that he's a retard. His stupidity will only make valid arguments regarding the loose definitions of rape seen as invalid by association.

"Oh, another dumb rape defender..."

It is stupid, because rape would not exist as a fringe sexual strategy if it did not work on a biological level. Under certain conditions (being a sexual loser) certain men rape women, because that is their only opportunity to impregnate a women. It is the same in many other animals.

If feminists were serious about reducing the instance of rape without any ulterior motive on their part, they would legalize prostitution wherever it's illegal. I can't find the link now, but Bakadesuyo linked to a range of evidence that shows legalized prostitution decreases sex crimes.

The feminist obsession with rape is about funding, power and creating a bogeyman for their cause more then actually solving the problem. The fact that they can manufacture ludicrious figures like "25% of women will be raped before they graduate college" 1 2 should be enough to betray to us their true intentions.

Akin's comments had nothing do to with false rape charges and protecting men against them. The comments were rooted in wanting to ban abortion even in the case of rape, because in his view, pregnancy by rape is impossible. No MRA-advocate should embrace this idiot.

He made these remarks yesterday, and he's been polling about 5 points ahead of Claire McCaskill up until now. Granted, this is one poll. We'll see if Akin makes it through the replacement deadline tomorrow. If he does, we'll see what the polling does in the next couple of weeks. My guess is that he is snatching defeat from the jaws of victory here. McCaskill was the weakest Democrat running for re-election to the Senate this cycle, and the Republicans needed to beat her in order to regain control of the chamber. The best equivalent of this in recent memory is George Allen's "Macaca moment"





where Allen went from being up by 12 points in polling around the time this happened to losing by 10,000 votes on election day. That also cost Republicans control of the chamber that year.

I find it fascinating the feministers are going crazy over this one. Especially after discovering an interest in the condition of their shoes when Whoopy Goldberg made the "rape-rape" statement. The cynical part of me wants to believe all the howling is to drown out news of the gunman at FOTF HQ and Obummer's amnesty program. Not to mention the general shitastic state of the economy.

Romney can throw Akin under the bus all he wants. He is the Republican standard bearer for 2012. Right now, the Republican party is in the process of writing as part of the party platform a CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT that a fertilized egg is a person and entitled to all rights under the 14th amendment, with no exceptions for rape or incest. Todd Akin sponsored several pieces of legislation in the US House containing the same language. His co-sponsor in that legislation? Paul Ryan. Akin was commenting on why he didn't think there should be a rape exception when he got into all this trouble, but the fact of the matter is his views are in the process of being enshrined in the party platform and as such are well into the mainstream of the party establishment. Paul Ryan and Todd Akin are bosom buddies on this, and the only reason Mitt Romney would seek to put any daylight between himself and Akin on this is because he knows it will cost him the election, not because of any matter of principle.

Exactly, Romney and the GOP agree with Todd Akin, they just don't want to discuss it. The reason that Romney is throwing him under the bus is not because he disagrees, but because having him around changes the conversation and puts the focus on the right wing's extreme social positions, rather than on Obama.

Make no mistake, the GOP and Ryan/Romney ticket is completely in sync with Todd Akin.

Urghh. This is why lay people, likely including all of us on this board, should be very careful when making public statements regarding evolutionary psychology and biology.

From the report I've read it seems this guy was trying to say two things, both of which probably stretched him beyond his knowledge, expertise and standing. At least witrh respect to a public, non-internet forum.

1) "Legitimate Rape":
I take it to mean that he was contrasting it with false rape accusations. Of course feminists pretend to believe that no woman ever makes a false rape complaint. Which begs the question: Why even bother with a court case? Why not just take sworn statements from the woman and give this to a judge to review. Since women never lie about these things he can take the statement at face value and use it to immediately determine an appropriate sentence. About the only other check required in this hypothetical case is to actually confirm that the complainant is female. If so, well, she doesn't lie about this sort of thing. The feminists guarantee it!

So, none of us are likely to have a problem with this part of what he was getting at. Of course some rape accusations are real (i.e. legitimate) and some are fabricated. While this is often denied for political reasons any sane person, including feminists themselves, know very well that there are plenty of false rape accusations.

2)Biological defenses against pregnancy in the case of rape:
This one I think we SHOULD have a problem with. No doubt he read some study regarding pregnancy that indicates that women can either get pregnant, or not, depending on their feelings for the man they are sleeping with at any time. Apparently there is some mechanism that allows more sperm higher up the reproductive track if she "wants" to get pregnant by a particular man.

Since this guy so badly wants to be against abortion in ALL circumstances he has taken this to mean that whenever a woman gets pregnant by a particular man she, or at least her body, "wants" to get pregnant. ergo Legal abortion is not needed, even in the case of rape, because if a woman becomes pregnant she wasn't REALLY raped. This is a ridiculous corruption of any branch of evolutionary science. Just because we have these mechanisms/defenses doesn't mean they work 100% of the time. Evolution is largely based on statistical probability, not absolute yes/no's. It's quite conceivable that a woman who was raped could become pregnant.


The media and public seemed to have latched onto reason (1) only, which I do have a problem with. But to be honest if they realised what he was actually getting at with point (2) his situation would be so much worse. I doubt his situation can be rehabilitated.

It's one thing to talk about these sort of things if you're say Richard Dawkins, you know what you're talking about, and can see the big picture. But this guy was WAY out of his league, especially with respect to point (2).

At best, his remark about "legitimate rape" was an attempt at some solid IRL trolling that seems to have worked but could prove costly in the end.

The bigger issue is his belief that a woman can't get knocked up from rape. Sperm don't care if you're holding a gun to a woman's head or not. If an egg is present, sperm are going to do their job. This is as stupid as that South African president who thought that showering and fucking virgins could prevent AIDS or some shit like that.
