Umm, that's because the Greek ones were gay, and the medieval/enlightenment ones had some pretty whack ontological arguments. I mean, a lot of the religious philosophers' arguments were based on Aristotle's teleology, which isn't considered scientific. The best philosophers were the ones who were like Locke, Kant, Mill, Bentham, etc.

I currently have EBT and I gotta say that I see why there's no incentive to come off. I have principles and stuff but I get a nice amount to spend on whatever kind of food I want and I am encouraged to spend it all each month otherwise it gets reduced. It's a really nice feeling to go into the grocery store and buy a fuckload of sushi or sammiches an shit after an intense workout and know that it's not my hard-earned money.

Politics aside, your point is valid. Anyone who has owned a small business with employees - especially in the service sector - knows the sick feeling that comes with a piece of equipment breaking down, a day of bad weather (and thus no customers), rising gas prices (vendors pass those costs onto you), etc, because at the end of the day, you have to pay your employees first. It's your paycheck that goes away when something breaks.

It's easy for politicians to pretend they understand that feeling, but unless they've been in that position, they have no clue. Kind of like the wealthy pretending they know what it's like being poor. No clue.
