Considering Colombia for 2 weeks in August
I'd be doing Medellin for 1 week, then I'd like one other city, perhaps on the coast. I would like a place with a nice beach. I hear Cartegena is cool, but the beaches suck. I've also ruled out Bogata for now and probably Cali.

Couple questions:

1) Is one week per city way too little?
2) Is it dangerous to take intercity buses in Colombia?
3) Spirit Airlines seems to offer the cheapest fares to Colombia, but I've heard shitty things too, anyone have experience flying them?

I know 2 weeks isn't much but this would be a "starter" trip to Colombia for me.

ps - Also considering a week in Rio and a week in Sao Paulo as an alternative.

1: yes, but if there is no alternative, I think it is better to check out the coast as well.

2: no

3: no idea.

I am not too thrilled about either Cartagena or Santa Marta (the latter is a dump! And a very hot and humid one)

Not much info on Barranquilla anywhere though - but maybe you ought to check it out?

I want to check out Barranquilla, I hear good things...

Medellin should be good for a week and since you keep talking about Mulatto girls, I think Cali might be worth the check out as well. I saw one of the hottest chicks (happened to be mulatto) dating one of the guys from my hostel.

I fly Spirit all the time, love 'em!!! They are extremely fast - literally, I pulled out my Iphone stopwatch in Medellin wiating to fky back home, and from the time the arriving flights wheels touched the ground, to the time I was actually on plane departing and on the runway was a record 17 minutes!!!!! I was amazed!

TIP - Cough up the extra 50 bucks for the "Big front Seat" sssooooo worth it!!!

i'll be hosting my annual find 'em, fuck 'em and notch 'em party in Pereira this labor day weekend....should be fun - join me!

I just may have to do that.

@Kerouac, so the mulattas are in Cali? I thought most of them would be on the Caribbean coast. Maybe I should adjust my itinerary then.

I just google'd "Cali Colombia" and this is what came up:

yum.

There are some really good looking girls down there... just make sure you learn some Salsa beforehand!

I second Mixx's recommendation for the bigger seats on Spirit, for the overnight flight it's worth it!

If you fly into Medellin, it would be worth taking a bus from Medellin to Pereira and then bus from there to Cali. Within Colombia aires.aero is usually the cheapest way to fly around.

One day when we all become independently wealthy we can have a yearly forum meetup in some exotic locale.

Wherever you go, hook up with locals. Locals in SA can show you a good time in any shitty place.
