Yeah, it really is brutal...you may even pay one month on a place you only rent for a month. It will still be larger and cheaper than a hotel.

If it was me I'd go for something further downtown. You will be in the thick of the action although the apartment you get for your money will almost assuredly be pre-war. There are a couple of new buildings and others less than 10 years old on the fringes of the LES and EV (Avenue B and Stanton Street) where you could find sublets. These buildings are packed with models too. If you must have amenities like roof, gym, etc stick with that corridor between 37th-45th and 5th-12th Avenues. That will be your absolute best value. The further west you go the newer the building will likely be and the more affordable it will likely be.

http://www.silvertowers.com Ridiculous amenities but you need to be OK with being on the Hudson and 42nd. It's a rental building but they set aside a number of units for short-term. I cannot remember the starting price points.

http://www.river2riverrealty.com Across the street from Silver Towers. Older, amenities not as nice but incredible value. You will not find better deals in the city for high-rise, furnished apartments. Might even be able to swing a 1BR for $3K and no-fee.

(Forgot to mention...look into the Atelier for R2R realty. It's a condo but the guy bought a ton of units in the building so he can bypass the condo board on short-term rentals.)

You're basically on point here...I'd say NoLita because you're within stone's throw to almost everything worth a damn except the West Village and the occasional foray into far West Chelsea (restaurant/gallery game). Very small, charming neighborhood that has an extremely favorable gender ratio in both residents and visitors. It really only runs from Lafayette-Bowery and Houston-Broome. Finding a place towards the middle would be tough so I'd grab a short-term rental at one of the new condo/rental buildings on Bowery with a terrace. That's your best value...just get something high enough up because it's a loud fucking street. All depends on what you want to spend.

Are you usually staying in hotels in SoHo?

If you really want to ball it out in Brooklyn stay at King & Grove. http://www.kingandgrove.com/NYC-Hotels/H...lliamsburg Might get away with $5000-5500 per month.

Realistically I would recommend Williamsburg and Carroll Gardens / Boerum Hill. I can't stand hipsters but there is still a ton to do there (McCarren Park, the new waterfront parks, awesome restaurants, bars, galleries). Basically if a restaurant opens downtown Manhattan and is successful they open their 2nd location in BBurg. I believe it has the most galleries outside of West Chelsea. Extremely easy transportation along the L-line directly connecting you to the meatpacking at 8th Avenue, Union Square, and the East Village at 1st and 3rd Avenues. Even if you're staying 4-5 stops in your commute will still be short. This will not be true after 1am and on weekends though. Airbnb has plenty of opportunities here. 1) Do not stay on Bedford Avenue 2) Do not book a place further than Montrose (5th stop into BBurg)...ideally further west 3) if past the Bedford stop try to keep it 2-3 blocks max from the L-train.

Carroll Gardens and Boerum Hill can also be a lot of fun (especially down Smith Street). More mature than Williamsburg although there will still be hipster type elements. You get easy access to DUMBO and the Brooklyn Promenade. Gallery game opportunities in DUMBO. Both are smallish, low-rise neighborhoods. Smith Street will provide most of your entertainment. Mostly between Union and Bergen. Airbnb also offering a variety of opportunities. Very residential so little in the way of hotels.

I would not recommend downtown Brooklyn although I'm sure you're seeing a lot of hotels, etc there.

Check 145Mulberry.com It's about 1.5-2 blocks off where you want to be but the prices for what you get are best value hands down. Nothing in the Bowery buildings right now. As I'm sure you know you'll have to book these places way in advance because the demand is outrageous. The penthouses at 145 Mulberry have terraces...you should be ruling lower Manhattan in a week. 1BR (650-700sqft) should go for $4000-5000 and 2BR in the $6500 range (and up of course...depends on what floor). Some have private balconies. Outdoor space in NYC is clutch...unlike BsAs where everyone has a balcony...keep this in mind.

That's one of the only dedicated buildings to short-term rentals of quality down there. There's a few others but they're shit and cost nearly as much.

Most everything else will be a one off...someone in a really nice rental subletting for a month or two. Or someone in a co-op or condo that allows terms less than 12 months (large majority do not). If I see something cool I'll pass it along.

I'm pretty certain those are only by month. Airbnb is probably the only reliable source for shorter terms.

So why can't a SINGLE person name a SINGLE bar/lounge/club in NYC that is not a cock festival? Please provide some examples. I just moved back here and honestly I've been to at least 30 places in the W. Village, E. Village, Brooklyn, and elsewhere and it just seems all the same shit to me.

I still get numbers, etc but it is not nearly as good as in other cities. And it's not just the ratio, some places have actually had more girls than guys. It's also the way girls in NYC behave. They are much more likely to have bitch shields than girls in the South or California from what I've seen. I've never meet so many insufferable bitches in one city before.

Honestly, if a guy has his shit together i.e. he's a doctor, banker, lawyer, I really think he'd do better in most other large cities in the USA. In NYC being relatively well off like that is nothing cause there are hedge fund dudes or trust fund babies who are way above you.

Two venues I've been hitting lately: Cafe Select and Acme. Definitely not cock fests but you need to be somewhat down with the fashion / hipster scene there. Not aggressively so, but don't rock up in khakis and a polo.
