It was not that at all - I was not confident she stole my stuff when I woke up. She woke up and woke me up in a rush because her mother was calling her (or maybe a ploy). She then said that she had to go right away. At this point I did not know where much of anything was because admittedly it WAS a crazy night. I only had time to check the usual places where I place things - a table by me and my phone charger. They were not in the usual places. It is as that point that I said I did not know where they were, and asked her to help me look. She said she was in too big of a rush and needed to go. I thought there was a chance she could have taken it, but I did not really think so. Also, I did have some other valuable stuff around the room that she did not take (nice watch, laptop, etc.) which gave me a sense of security. She also gave me her purse to quickly look through although it could have easily been hidden elsewhere.

So basically I did not have time to search my apartment and she was trying to leave. I could either force her to stay and look heavily through her stuff - in which case she would obviously never talk to me again - or hope that she did not take it. Ultimately, I was a fool because I looked today and could not find it. Further, my iphone was turned off or had the sim card removed in the morning and my battery should have been fine that morning.

Also it is not uncommon at all for people to buy you drinks here in SEA, even hot girls. I have been offered bottle service COUNTLESS times at various clubs - including a chick whose an easy 10/10 because it was her birthday. I think the reason this time it did not ring any bells is because I was pretty drunk, and she was VERY drunk (I thought there was no way a girl that drunk could even conceive an idea to steal anything). At the tail end of the night I had to literally keep her walking straight so she would not run into things.

I mean ultimately its not that big a deal. I lost $60 usd and my credit cards. My travel insurance that I actually bought 2 days ago (thank god), will cover my phone. I will buy a used 4s at the market that is totally unlocked tomorrow. I feel bad for whoever buys this phone though. Sprint is one of the few carriers that will actually brick iphones since they are not really unlocked (so they cannot take sim cards) if they are reported stolen or you stop paying your bill.

AFAIR Sprint is using CDMA, not GSM. Did it work in Thailand for you?

New Iphone's support both CDMA and GSM. If you call sprint they will tell apple to unlock your IPhone to use GSM SIM carriers (through itunes). But my understanding is if you stop paying sprint, or it is stolen, they will tell apple to lock your phone / kill it.

So if I call sprint the next time they connect the phone to itunes it will be bricked.

If my wallet and phone was missing and I had even an inkling the girl in my room stole it I'd search her and not care about whether she talked to me again. Regardless of how 'hot' she was. You had sex with her anyway so you got what you wanted. I can understand that you'd just woken up, were still drunk, it had been a crazy night and she appeared to have been rich so you weren't thinking straight but saying she was hot and worrying about her talking to you again shouldn't be an issue, your stuff was missing and you needed to make sure she didn't have it. Anyway not trying to be hard on you but I guess you've learnt your lesson now, always lock it away. Even if you've no safe then put it in a locked bag and keep the bag down the side of the bed where you are sleeping so it's not easy for the girl to pick your whole bag up and walk away. Keep the key to the lock hidden somewhere safe.

I guess this is one of the benefits to staying in hotels over apartments out here, girls have to leave their ID at reception and a lot of places don't let them get it back unless you're there with them so makes it more difficult for them to steal your stuff and do a runner whilst you sleep and they definitely couldn't pick up your bag / suitcase and dissapear with that without someone noticing.

First time I've come across this website, first few articles I read made it seem pretty good then I found one titled "The Secret to Picking Up Good Girls in Thailand" which I thought would be interesting and full of some good tips. The conclusion was (and the whole article is about this) that to get good girls in Thailand you just need a Blackberry phone as it's a status symbol and shows you're more likely to stay in the country for a long time where as having an iphone or anything else doesn't. They treat women no good.” That old line and he actually beleives it. Used not only in Thailand but by girls around the world trying to validate why they like foreigners when in 99% of instances the real reason they like foreign men is because they are either a passport hunter, gold digger, prostitute or the local men don't like them. This guy must be very niave or only meets the lower quality girls.

Uh, thanks for that analysis. You can pick it apart and find stuff you disagree with or you can focus on the good stuff I guess. It's one guys experience in Thailand; I think it's a pretty nice site.

I'm with Richie on this one. Some low points isn't going to invalidate someone credibility and value completely. That kind of logic is called "poisoning the well" and is generally frowned upon.

This is one of the reasons I don't have an expensive smartphone. What is a iPhone 4S worth? Almost $1,000. That's just too much value to be walking around with in lots of places in my book. You become a mugging target. Unless you really are a REAL gangster who has enforcers or whatnot.

Your laptop should already be in the safe when you get back to your room with a girl. Like others have said the phone (if expensive), wallet and watch go into the safe when she's in the bathroom. If she doesn't go you just have to be rude and put them in anyway. May be useful to have a decoy wallet with a small amount of cash and fake innactive cards. That way she thinks she has something at least.

I think limiting the cost of stuff you bring when you're a traveling furriner helps reduce anxiety.

I bought a pretty nice used 3GS in the USA for about $250. This
is a price point which for me is not a disaster if stolen/lost.

I also try to use laptops which are about 2 years out of date; they are about 1/2 the price
of new and 80% as good, so I've only got about $1000 hanging out there instead of 2k

Like I said at first I found a couple of OK articles and thought it might be good then I read a bit more. Read a post earlier saying "How to have sex with good girls in Thailand for free" or something along those lines. The guy goes on to say he only has sex with girls he picks up in clubs and the only clubs he visits are Insomnia, Spicy, Swing, Climax and Shock 39...all after hour pro clubs. So definitely not the place to find 'good' girls and not a good bet to get free sex either though possible. The guys deluded.

I agree that it isn't uncommon to get free drinks from Thai girls in my experience. If you go to places like RCA a lot of girls there have money. Some are even straight up loaded. There is a LOT of rich people in Bangkok and if you go to certain places you will run into them. With bottle service being so common here a girl that likes you might feed you free drinks all night. I've gone out had girls give me multiple free drinks from their bottle on several different occasions. And a girl paying for cabs isn't a big deal, they usually only cost 50 baht.

I was out with a girl last night, I met her on week one of my trip and see her on a weekly basis. She bought the movie tickets last night (the premium seats at 200B each) and then treated me to dinner at a new Korean place in Siam, that I think someone on here mentioned? I had initially shown her the link to a review of it and I can't think where else I read about it. It was good, pretty cheap and we were sat next to a minor Thai TV celebrity.

So girls paying for things isn't something that's too unusual.

I need to get out to RCA this weekend, I still haven't made it out there on this trip. It always slips my mind when it comes to deciding where to head out. So many people are singing the praises of Route 66 to meet 'good' Thai girls, has to be done.

There is some good stuff but you need to think about how valid it is when you're reading claims the author only fucks 'good' girls he meets in clubs then mentions he only visits after hour whore clubs. It's a bit contradictory. I'll continue to visit the website and read the posts, there is some useful information and observations there but I'll take a lot of what I read with a pinch of salt.

I just realized that someone robbed a decent amount of American cash I had been keeping in my apartment in Medellin. I guess I could have hid it better than just in the back of a closet in an envelope, but I feel like a complete dumbass.

I have lost trust in Colombian girls.. Looking back, I don't know who to blame.. There have been a handful in my apartment.. A few slept over, a few had moments when I was in the bathroom or outside running an errand or something.. I guess I could even be the cleaning ladies (sad to start suspecting people you get along with).. Yup, one of my biggest fears. Whenever you take a girl home for the night, you really can't avoid it, regardless. You sleep, she has the opportunity to rob you.

I always carry one piece of lockable luggage and a lightweight chain that i fix to an immovable object. I usually never travel with real valuables anyway, it helps protect your cash (always the biggest risk, IMO).

One thing you can do in these scenarios apart form having locks on your luggage is to have a small stash (can even be in your own currency) out in the open as misdirection. Essentially an amount that would not hurt to lose but enough to make the risky venture of going through your things less attractive

I guess it never occurred to me that someone who I met and seduced in a totally regular way could also be a serious thief as well. One person told me that if you are an attractive charming guy, it just makes the crime that much more enjoyable for girls like that. I mean I am assuming the cleaning ladies didn't steal it and someone didn't break in or sneak in in some way I am not imagining. Maybe I will get in touch with a few girls I suspect and see which are flakier than usual or something to at least give myself a suspect and put my mind at ease.

Guess what, you got lucky. When exactly this happened to me in the US, I lost a 2k Laptop, a 3,5k Watch, 2 phones and a couple of credit cards and another 500$ in cash. Also, I didn't have travellers insurance by that time. She didn't take my other 1,5k watch though, no idea why.

You said it yourself "people you have just met". Why would you trust anyone so much when you've just met them? Don't be paranoid but it's safer to always assume that people you've met, especially girls in poorer countries, might have another agenda or be tempted to steal from you if given the chance. Always lock your stuff away.

It seems unlikely someone broke into your place and you didn't realise but the cleaner could have definitely stolen from you.

Because I like to pair a nice suit with a nice watch. That simple. Was also staying in a 4* hotel. Called NYPD next day but no news until this day , and it's been a year and a half.
