Having just come back from Montreal I am surprised how $$$$ it is, I thought places like NY/SF/CHI are expensive. Its nothing compared to Canada and Europe. Taxes are nuts

How the hell can people save up for a house/car/retirement when the cost of living is insane????? I spent $130 on just food for 4 days in Montreal and very little was on drinks or fine dining. Just coffee shops, local places.

$130 is chicken shit. I spend that on groceries every few days. Ripped the front cleat off my boat $400 last week and put 120 in gas in it.
Spent 500 more this long weekend on ??? Even Ali said in the DR he's blowing through a couple hundred a day.

The answer to your question is understand shit costs and fucking off cost more so learn how to make real money. 2k+ a week.

And Montreal is one of the cheaper spots in Canada! Try Vancouver or Toronto. Prices are kicking up, inflating is driving up shit like gas and food. Even after my trip in the States I was bug eyed at how much prices have shot up, a lot of stuff down there costs the same or more than Canada. Before you could sniff out deals in USA even with a shitty CDN dollar.

I've lived in a lot of places. Some were cheap, some expensive. At the end of the day, it's all relative. If you live somewhere expensive, you're gonna earn better wages. Also, different things are expensive in different cities. For example, cabs here in Miami are mad expensive, but in NY they are cheap. In NY rent costs a bit more than here in Miami though.

Alright, agreed. I should say that's more the case within the states. Obviously it's not gonna be easier for the average Joe to make a living in a place like Zambia. And that's not going to apply to people in certain professions or people who own their own businesses.

That's odd because I have a completely different perspective.
I also was just in Montreal, and it is always amazingly cheap yet ridiculously high quality to me. You can spend 50 bucks on a gourmet full course dinner that would cost double or triple that anywhere else.

Taxis are about normal, the only thing is that the guys were probably juicing you if you were taking them at night (purposely driving near the riots), and their street layout is very livable but not the most driver friendly.

Real estate in Montreal is also ~60% less expensive than in NYC.

But yes, inflation is blatantly visible, everywhere, and will only continue to go up in these basic goods, despite official estimates for inflation being at ~2%. Inflation is purely a monetary phenomenon

Zambia is a bit extreme, try living in London for a few years. Only thing cheap there is the booze and the flights to Europe.

It is quite expensive, I'm in Canada right now. Real estate is reasonable but a lot of other things are expensive especially compared to the last time that I was in Canada.

If you're just on vacation it's not a big deal but if you're a longer term traveler your money will go a hell of a lot further in other places.

It's not relative at all, depends on what you do for a living, the taxation rates etc. For example I work online, say no more.

It's not relative at all, depends on what you do for a living, the taxation rates etc. For example I work online, say no more.

You didn't read my post after that. Obviously if you are working online your income is gonna be the same wherever you are. But for the average say 20 something year old that isn't really in a career yet, this may be the case.

Iceland, yes there are some good package deals.
Poland, yes cheap enough
Lombok?, well yes but almost the entire country is cheap there.

There are countless other places, in Eastern Europe many currencies are plummeting even against the Euro. Where I am right now the currency is 40% lower than it was when I visited last September.

That Flat mirrors Toronto Condos prices which are also in la la land. Conversion aside my homie tells me the pounds is just a price.. they don't convert shit over so a 400K condo would flip for 400 pounds. That price would get you a 500 sq/f concrete box here.

I'm killing myself tryna find decent rent in Toronto, moldy basement suites are costing a G in the old city. Women run this place and they routinely overpay for apartments and drive up the price all around.

Iceland is not cheap, you may get reasonable deals to get there but money goes quickly there. I was there twice last year.
