In a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, the US stock market regulator, Verizon said it was writing down the value of Oath after a strategic review that resulted in the downgrading of financial projections for the business.

The write-down of the value of Oath, which Verizon put together in the hope of creating a viable rival to Google and Facebook with a target of $10bn revenues by 2020, provides further stark evidence of the tough conditions facing a whole generation of digital media companies.

It is also a far cry from the frothy excesses of the turn of the century dotcom boom, when AOL hit a peak stock market value of $222bn in December 1999, with Yahoo’s capitalisation topping $100m around the same time.

The following year AOL’s mega-merger with Time Warner created a $350bn business that was lauded as a visionary marriage of old and new media.

However, the deal has since been widely derided as one of the most disastrous mergers in corporate history and the two companies split in 2009, with AOL valued at about $3.5bn.

The year before that, Yahoo, still holding ambitions to fight back against the rise of Google and Facebook, spurned a $45bn offer from rival Microsoft.

Verizon bought AOL in 2015 for $4.4bn and two years later acquired Yahoo for $4.5bn.

A newer generation of digital media companies with hot prospects have also found themselves falling on tougher times over the past year.

Last month Disney wrote down $157m of its investment in Vice Media, the youth-focused upstart that had enjoyed a frothy $5.7bn valuation. Disney took a $400m stake in Vice in 2015 after investment by other traditional media companies including Rupert Murdoch’s 21st Century Fox and the advertising giant WPP.

BuzzFeed, the digital media company founded by Jonah Peretti, missed its revenues last year, coming in at $260m versus a planned $350m. About 100 jobs were cut and a planned stock market flotation was postponed.

In a recent interview, Peretti appealed to rivals such as Vice, Vox Media, which owns brands including Recode and The Verge, Group Nine and Refinery, suggesting that they should think about merging to create the scale needed to compete with Google and Facebook.

Nike knows their market: mostly young, left-leaning, rootless cosmopolitans. These people aren't offended by Colin Kaepernick; they admire him. By purchasing Nike products, they can make a risk-free political statement and fit in with the cool kids.

Nike made a well-calculated decision to chase that market and cede the older, more conservative, and rural markets to competitors like New Balance and Under Armor. The people crying about Nike's support of Kaepernick weren't buying Nike products anyway, so it was a win-win for Nike.

I detest Kaepernick, but this was a very shrewd move on Nike's part.

Here's an explanation: the past year saw part of one of the largest bull runs in stock market history along with an enormous rise in consumer confidence (which leads to stronger retail spending and helps companies like Nike tremendously). Nike also saw solid growth in China and announced to investors that they project even more growth there, which has buoyed the stock.

The truth is that even the recent retraction in stock prices doesn't even come close to making up this year's gains in the market, and Nike honestly couldn't help but see gains this year whether or not they made a mistake with Kaepernick.

Nike's competitor Under Armour is a great example of seeing extraordinary gains despite major missteps. The company has been hit with a number of serious issues in 2018:
-slowing growth in North America and lowered earnings expectations that led to some seriously heated investor calls
-major management issues and restructuring
-terrible press for issues surrounding their corporate culture (#metoo stuff, corporate outings to strip clubs, etc.)
-investor backlash regarding guidance plans
-etc

....and yet Under Armour's stock is still at +17.53% YTD.

TLDR; Kaepernick may cost Nike in the long run, but not during a bull run with a good economy.

I have been a stock investor for a number of years. I currently own Proctor and Gamble )they own Gillette of course), StarBucks, Microsoft, and many big banks. I feel guilty about owning this companies on one hand, as they openly push SJW nonsense in their advertising. However, the reality is that ALL big corporations are pushing the feminist/LGBT/anti-white/anti-human agendas if you examine them just a little.

Take a look at a company like Royal Dutch Shell. One of the biggest oil companies on the globe, $400B+ annual revenue... and what do you see on their web pages and social media? Elevating women over men, elevating LGBT over heterosexual, pushing electric cars and disastrous green energy agendas to western countries while diverting all oil production (and associated profits, strategic advantages) to Muslim countries.

If you go to the career page for an oil or mining company, all you see are women and non-whites, official company female leadership networks, LGBT networks. My point is, once a business becomes a certain size, they inevitably take part in the satanic inversion agenda that Roosh V keeps talking about.

I am still holding investments in big companies like this and institutions that also invest in them, because what else is there to put my money in at the moment?
