Only think keeping men from losing it totally, are the abundance of Asian 'massage' places on literally every strip of every suburb (I'm not advocating it, it's just hilarious how many there are these days). When I was in Melb I'd see men in their 20s, 30s, 40s and older walk in there.

Yes, everything I hear about cities like Seattle, San Fransisco and Toronto, is what Melbourne is like.

Back to the police ad: If you shake your head at some random aggressive dude on a train, you are asking for trouble. What if the "leerer" has friends with him and he starts talking shit to you? Now you're in a position where you need to back down like a bitch, or perhaps escalate further leading to a fight. Over some chick who doesn't have the emotional strength to ignore/confront some dude staring at her - or just move herself to another location - or just wait until her stop hits.

Anyway, TL;DR .... who has time for this nonsense?

That about sums it up. The CBD has a heavy police presence, they tend to patrol in groups of four or more. Semi regularly there's some shocking confrontation, like the massive brawl in federation square a few years ago.
There's definitely been a movement to particular areas becoming Chinese or black etc. etc. For the most part Melbourne is extremely left wing politically too, along with an attitude of if it's not in the city is doesn't matter. Like wind farms are fine, it's not like they're something you see everyday or have to deal with.

Thanks for the response. I suspected that was the case, but I try not to project my pessimism when I can find out first hand.

Right on cue for this topic, I just read that yesterday there was a nightclub shooting in Melbourne and somebody got killed, three injured, one of whom is fighting for his life.
