It depends what types grow in your area. Some are easier to identify that others, and some have poisonous mushrooms that look similar.

If you're a first time collector, wear rubber gloves, take plenty of detailed photos and post on Shroomery to get a confirmed identification.

Generally, mushrooms containing psilocybin bruise blue.

I have mixed feelings on psychedelics. I enjoyed them, had ups and downs. Don't fuck with them anymore.

My main issue is they seem to instill hair brained hippy utopian ideals on their users. I don't know if it's the drugs or the subculture.

Listen to one of the shitty episodes of Joe Rogan with his comedy buddies (it's a good show when he has good guests) and you'll hear typical psychedelic babble "why do we need borders man, we should all come together as one blah blah blah"

Earlier this year I was going through a period of morbidly dwelling on death.

I was filled with existential dread I guess you could call it, part of which came from feeling like I'm not where I want to be in my life.

I still haven't really shaken that feeling but I'm working through it and taking the necessary action. I'm 32 years old and I don't think I'd ever felt this way.

Anyway, did shrooms with a friend on the beach and went into the darkness of death, and came out completely at peace with it.

I've had similar revelatory and healing experiences, particularly with shrooms. Although they're not always entirely pleasant, they do seem to have their own wisdom.

Then again, some people get nothing from it.

My friend who I did it with last time didn't really enjoy himself. He kept thinking about work the whole time and just wanted to come down so he could go back to his default mode. He recognized after the fact that he didn't really give himself permission to enjoy the experience.

But then we chatted later that week and he commented on how calm and content he felt that entire week.

I like a good psychedelic reset once in a while. Similar to VV's post above, when I'm in a shitty place I take a dose and end up feeling much better afterwords. Clears my mind of negative black pill thoughts.

I have had similar experiences to you in the sense that, during a time in my life that I needed insight or direction, some mushrooms and a grounded opportunity to take them, suddenly appeared, and I gained wisdom that I have held on to and still remember vividly.

On the other hand, when I have taken them recreationally, this did not happen.

Not to get too mystical, which could be considered a sign of too many mushrooms, keeping your mind and intuition open to organic synchronicities, ones that involve mushrooms, might be part of getting something out of them.

Only tried LSD once, and it felt harsh, cold, pharmaceutical. Completely unlike mushrooms. It was too much information too soon. When I took mushrooms, it didn't even have that usual distorted feeling you get from any drug, including alcohol. It felt realer than real, and I actually tested that feeling by trying to perform physical tasks that took some skill to see if I was impaired in any way. Turns out I was actually better at doing them than normal.

This only happened twice in my life, and never happened again, and as I interpret it now, it was a healthy experience. I think where you get into trouble spiritually, is when you try to use drugs as a short cut to enlightenment, like those dorks who try to sell you on ayahuasca by saying it is the equivalent of 10 years of therapy in one night.

There is no shortcut to enlightenment, but in the right state of mind, and at the right time in your life, something like mushrooms can have a positive effect.

I tried mushrooms for the first time with a knowledgeable friend, after over a year of considering it. The experience was profound. I'm in the process of putting the experience into words, which will take some time, but what I realized is this:

This world that we're in is a gift from God. He made it for us, but there are "house rules" we must follow. When we're done here, we separate from the body and go back "home" to the source. It's where we are from but also where we have always been and always will be.

In the future I'll have much more to say about what I experienced. The pharmacological effect of mushrooms removed two kinds of "filters": (1) ones that are there for our own safety to prevent information overload and (2) ones that were installed by the world of men to control us. I don't advise you take mushrooms without an experienced guide. This is not a shortcut if the proper mental framework and knowledge is not already there.

If our experience has been to some extent "designed" for us, I just find it very hard to swallow that to get access to truth, to remove the filters, we need to get a specific plant (or fungus), treat it in a certain way, and ingest it. Thus adding very specific, extraneous chemicals to our neural pathways. Seems about as likely as anything else in this bizarre universe, but seriously, God or our extra-simulation overlords, lay off the mushrooms.

I see where your coming from but mushrooms do more than change our neural pathways temporarily. They have very profound lasting effects. Remember. In the past for wisdom people took long retreats and fasted, along with using mind altering plants. I use to feel as you do. But I believe these substances can be used as a gift by the God Roosh talks about who put us here.

+1 Roosh. Been waiting for more talk of phycadelics here... because they can transform us in ways years of studying and though cannot.

I have never tried mushrooms. I got high...once from weed. It put me to sleep. But a few years ago I bought a bottle of absinthe called Lucid, from a local alcohol shop. I have nothing else to compare it too, in my life. But the feeling I had from drinking absinthe was literally life altering. I felt so calmn, happy and euphoric. It was like I was 25 feet tall and some one dumped a bucket of electricity on me.

If you read the Bible, it seems like so many people are having Godly "visions" or they hear voices, but we don't have that today. I believe that most likely came from the pineal gland, the "third eye", which was the antenna to communicate with the spirit. Our pineal gland in modern times has atrophied and is calcified in most people because of the poisons (pesticide, plastics, phytoestrogens, etc) in our environment. A substance like mushrooms facilitates the line of communication with the spirit, but consider that mushrooms have existed alongside man. It's very possible that they were always used. Mushrooms is like increasing the bandwidth to the unseen from modem dial-up to broadband.

You're in eternal communion with God, or rather, he's always connected to you. Recently I have been specifically asking Him for help. I was getting answers in the form of thoughts in my own voice, and then on the mushrooms I received a more specific message that came from outside myself.

Damn. Roosh, can’t wait to hear more about this! I think the hard thing to explain is these psychedelics can be very sobering, though one who has not had these expirence would find that surprising.

I myself have often felt that prayers that are unanswered... become more clear while on these substances. The best way I can describe it is it’s like dipping copper wire in liquid nitrogen... there’s much less resistance betweeen the flow of our mind and spirit.

Even a terrifying trip can have great meaning... but if things go too far south a benzo will instantly pause the trip. So to anyone trying for a first time, have a benzo on hand.

Which philosophers/authors do you find most communicate truthfully about the spiritual event you experienced?

I've found Alan Watts and Bhagavad Gita and some Schopenhauer to be most similar. It's always been a little frustrating that my favorites, Nietzsche and Aristotle, aren't as closely aligned with the direct experience but do have the same ultimate aim of self-actualization as promoted by such spiritual experiences.

When it comes to Psilocybin definitely Terence McKenna, although in the end that guy arguably took it a bit too far.

Overall Alan Watts is the most palatable modern proponent of these ideas and a good gateway to the traditional mystical schools of thought and their experiences revolving around the concept of unity and interconnectedness of being. He makes tons of references to additional reading material and literary sources during his talks and lectures, so it pays off to take notes, or read his books.

David Icke is the closest in understanding the nature of worldly reality. He has a quote: "We are what always was, always is, and always will be." That is dead-on. Unfortunately he leaves out God because of a grudge against "religion". So he's forced to adopt things like this is a "simulation". It is in the sense that God created it, but not in the sense that it's a computer simulation.

I don't know about interdimensional beings or reptilieans. I didn't see those, and I don't think I want to, but I wouldn't be surprised if they existed in between layers within this world. I suspect God has "helpers" that we can't see. Since God has given all his creations free will, some of those helpers, as with human beings, choose evil and wreak havoc.

I think that any of the insights you get on mushrooms are available to anyone who follows their spiritual path and perseveres.

But who is willing to do that?

You could grind away, meditating, reading scripture, praying, for forty years with nothing really to show for it except frustration.

And then one day, and it wouldn't have to be anything flashy, just a minor shift in your way of looking at things maybe, and suddenly life makes sense and you are at peace with it.

Most people don't have the fortitude or the faith to do that.

When you do mushrooms, you aren't grinding away at your spiritual practice, you are taking things into your own hands and saying, I want results now.

There are upsides and downsides to doing this.

The downside, obviously, is getting hooked on spiritual revelations, and taking drugs all the time until you are like, yeah, another epiphany, big whoop.

Some things only have value because of their scarcity, so if you have the option to have a once in a life time experience once a week if you want, it loses its value.

So, that temptation is there.

The upside is, people just flat out need encouragement sometimes, they need something special to happen, they need to see that there is a reason for things, and that it all makes sense down the road.

So if you have a positive spiritual experience on mushrooms, you can keep that experience in your mind and in your heart, and later in life, when the going gets really hard, you can think back to the time the curtain was peeled back for a second and you saw how things really worked, and remind yourself that there is an end goal in sight.

When I used to play basketball with my stepson when he was little, it is certain he would have learned a lot if I always played my best against him. He would have learned perseverance and how to deal with frustration.

Except it never would have worked, because human beings need more than just cold confrontations with reality.

Human beings need encouragement.

So you have to let the kid score sometimes, when he wants to, because he wants to.

So that's what mushrooms are.

God letting you score every now and then instead of swatting your every shot into the rafters.

If existence was like how it is to be high on mushrooms, you'd go insane. There is no "solid ground" and you forget how to act like a "human". Too many filters are removed. There is safety in not allowing us to experience existence in that way.

You can also choose the kind of high you have with mushrooms. It can just be a trippy/giddy thing the whole way through. For the men I know who took it, they didn't have a spiritual experience like I did, but I've been asking for help before taking it. And I got help.

Roosh, what dosage did you take?

I would highly recommend a heroic dose once you are ready for it. Most people define that as 5+ grams dried. I have taken 6 grams, 8 grams, and 15 grams in the past year. These are the types of dosage where you will truly look into the abyss.

My recommendation is to do these types of dosages alone at home in bed. I will generally alternate between being in silence and even darkness, and listening to Terrence McKenna or similar lectures.

If you are doing this type of dosage, it needs to be understood that you will have some uncomfortable moments (that feel like eternity). There is plenty of good reading on the internet on dealing with these aspects of the trip. The thing that has been most successful for me is listening to a familiar podcast (JRE for me) to maintain a grip on reality. For some reason hearing people talk about normal things helps me calm the chaos during a heroic shroom trip.

Yeah delivery methods certainly play a role in the onset(I prefer seeped in tea for 10 minutes myself and strained for lowest chance of nausea). I've grown a few batches of shrooms(Its pretty damn easy if you can follow instructions) but I've never taken more than 2G myself at a time since I'm never in that great of a place mentally, I prefer to play the spirit guide role instead for friends. I've got about 6g left from my last batch and I've been considering micro dosing it soon every couple of days to see how that plays out for a overall sense of well being. Smaller doses i've taken around .3g(basically a microdose) leaves you with no real visuals or anything but enhances colors and artwork etc and is pretty nice.

I'd love to try a heroic dose but old demons and anxieties keep me away from it.

In my experiences with mushrooms/tryptamines, (~3 years of heavy usage, recently cut back a lot since jan of this year) what I have found is that if you meditate (usually I do it with eyes closed) and try to push all the thoughts out of your mind, almost like falling asleep (its heavily reminsicent of hypnagogia), that you can fairly reliably induce "ego loss". In that state I often feel/see/experience another presence and I usually experience extreme time dilation (30 seconds feels like hours...after these experiences i usually rip off my blindfold and check the time in the song i am listening to). Reaching that state is what results in feeling like i have been rejuvenated and spiritually awakened by the trip. (although this is often not accompanied by any particular insight)

Just wanted to share some advice on achieving some sort of consistent effect from psychedelics.
