The high point in my life the past year has been my wing. It's fucking great I met the guy at somewhat of a strange point in my life. What a monster wing. Completely dedicated to game since I met him, and his messy divorce that saw him being cheated on while he was on deployment in the military. And getting out in about a half year. He put his time in, and man, has he put it in. I guess he enlisted after high school, and he's finally done now. He's 25 or so. He was exposed to toxic chemicals in his service in the military... and now he has kidney problems. I will keep it general: he was exposed to toxic chemicals while serving state-side, and there's a track record of the chemical (and base) having this problem for military guys. All sorts of health problems.

Basically he has other health issues that are directly attributable to the military but this one is like super directly attributable. This chemical is known to cause all sorts of health problems, and at a recent doctor's appointment, the doctor discovered the problem on one of his kidneys. The doctors words, "this is highly unusual for a 25 year old." Pretty serious, surgery was being scheduled, I guess. There was a followup, they found the same problem on his other kidney. I think it's pretty bad... having found same problem on both kidneys.

I know we talk a lot here on the forum about joining the military, but honestly, I think it's a lot of sacrifice... Including exposure to any number of really bad shit (not including bullets).

The problem is systemic, and goes back to vietnam and beyond, where my uncle was killed by complications from exposure to Agent Orange. Just a word of caution...

I'm ex-military and while I got a lot of good things out of it, I wouldn't allow any of my family to join today except maybe the Coast Guard. CG because it's not under DOD, it's mostly stateside in decent locations, it has a real mission, and the people seem pretty legit.

The US military (DOD) has a notorious history both stateside and overseas in not acknowledging contamination/toxic exposure issues that goes back decades.

With the DOD, it is always deny until you die.

When you're signing your life away to the government, that attitude is complete bullshit.

I think they are called kidney cysts and they are rather large. They are huge. Massively huge. So huge he got double takes from doctors, and an immediate call for surgery.

I don't want to be to specific guys, but this is basically the situation he is in, don't actually know if this is his base or not... basically exposure to toxic, cancer-linked, fire-fighting chemical via groundwater, here's an AP article explaining the issue that is happening on many military bases right now:

While previous claims by El Paso County residents targeted the makers and distributors of the firefighting foam that polluted the Widefield aquifer, the lawsuit filed by the Security Water District and the Pikes Peak Community Foundation, owner of Venetucci Farm, directly targets the U.S. government under the federal Torts and Claims Act, the Gazette reports.

The firefighting foam used at Peterson Air Force Base and scores of other Air Force bases around the world contained per- and polyfluorinated compounds, also called PFCs or PFAS, which have been linked to cancers, developmental delays for fetuses and infants and substances, and other serious health effects. Those compounds have seeped into the ground at and around those installations and contaminated the drinking water.

If it's too good to be true, it is. By the way, this PFAS is what's in Teflon coating and many other consumer products. Just another way where modern living is killing us, both physically and spiritually.

Not so easy. Police officers /firefighters and military have a harder time wining lawsuits since it is expected there are inherent risks. To win a lawsuit it usually has to be caused by the manufacturer and it was unknown to the organization. Problem is a lot of gov't organizations are in cohort with corporate defense manufacturers and the gov't won't sue or admit anything.
