Usually, the challenge with going after someone for making a false complaint is not politics, but the difficulty of proving that it was actually false - not just impossible to prove - and that they did it on purpose. It's just too damn hard for most understaffed prosecutors' offices to go after it, until a case wastes so much time and money that they have no choice but to battle it out, because people who are delusional enough to try this will almost certainly take it to trial thinking they're the hero of their own story. (See: Nikki Yovino)

Here you've got strong facts including rumored evidence that Smollett literally bought his attackers the rope to fake-hang him with, at least two witnesses who are undeniably involved to rebutt any testimony he offers trying to stick to his story, character evidence that can be brought out if he blurts out something like "I'm not that kind of person, I would never do this", and a very likely fake terror threat can of worms that he surely doesn't want to open.

Guy's goose is cooked but if he had a passport he really oughtta flee the country. But ya never know, half of his bloodline is from the "tribe" so maybe they'll give him a get outta jail card in the end heh. Not sure if Smollett has any powerful Hollywood allies that can help him get outta this one. If the guy is real lucky & Trump is in a good merciful mood maybe he'll tell Chicago Police to drop the case, although I think the odds are slim.
