You have no idea how the family courts in the US and even in other countries work. Those shouldn't even be considered a part of the justice system as the goals and results are rarely justice.

The courts won't ever order any of that money back because they believe (and never verify in even the least bit) that the money was for the kids, so they can't take the money back as it was the kids money.

Heartbreaking.

Others saying not to marry don't understand that many places have cohabitation laws and if you're going to have kids it doesn't matter that much if you're married or not (in terms of what the family courts will be able to get out of you).

I am starting to not bother with so many conversations or possible comments on Youtube or wherever. People seem to have a knee jerk reaction that they can't shake to defend awful people and criticize righteous ones.

A couple of guys were discussing this at work today and I overheard the conversation. After a few minutes of discussion, they reached the mutual conclusion that, although the man deserves sympathy and the woman was to blame for a shitty situation, she doesn't deserve TOO much blame. After all, they reasoned, her intentions weren't all bad - she had obviously realised that she couldn't have children with her husband, so she gave him sons by another means. This was a noble deed on her part. Also, according to these sages, it's understandable for the boys to cut off contact with him, because of the way he treated their mother by unfairly going after her money when he is already wealthy.

This sort of thing happens all the time. Sticking up for scummy people and attacking good people. Sort of like Jordan Peterson fanboys in the thread(I kid, I kid- well not really but I can understand why people would disagree).

So often in real life there are many situations where the good people are attacked for no reason and scummy people's actions are rationalised away. The "logic" is the good people made them feel bad(or generally some more clever rationalisation, but boils down to that), and the scummy people were good people who "did what they had to do"(no proof that they were good nor that they had to do those things, but whatever).

I've come to the conclusion this is left leaning/moderate people who have weak minds. Which is why women are like this more than men. It's basically Stockholm syndrome extrapolated(happened in Stockholm in the 70s- a very left leaning city). You side with the scum(hostage takers) and attack the good people(cops) because you know if good prevails "it's understandable" why you would think that, you weren't thinking clearly, you were in shock etc etc. But if scum comes on top you obviously have curried favor with them. That drives their emotions/motivations/actions and everything that happens after is intellectual window dressing. If you aren't weak minded then it frees you to make the more moral decision as you aren't reliant on other people as you can make better decisions and have more agency over your life.

If enough people in society are weak minded like this you would ALWAYS be slammed like this acting like the cop and anything would be rationalised acting like the scum. I think a temporary stop gap solution would be acting like scum without actually being scum.

My own father divorced from his first wife back in the 70s after 5 years. No kids as the woman turned out to be barren, but he got screwed by a lawyer known to pay off the judges. He still pays alimony to this crazy childless cunt over 40 years later. I grew up with a lot of lawyer jokes.

One time when I was a teenager he got a letter asking him for the payment because he decided to let her come after him for it, just to fuck with her because she was lazy and had no job. He showed us all the letter and it’s still one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen. After asking for the money, she pointed out that in his profession he must know lots of eligible well-to-do men, and she would appreciate being introduced to one as she’s still single. The fucking nerve.

It was around that time that the ex called our house and my mom got in the phone and told her something to the effect of “why don’t you get a job you dried up old cunt.” We still laugh about that one.

Fast forward to my own divorce a few years ago. My dad had several cautionary tales much worse than his own as he was thankfully able to afford the 9k a year in alimony he pays this bitch in perpetuity. One involved a colleague of his that had 4 kids back in the 70s and got divorced after something like 9-10 years of marriage. The kids apparently hated him because the mother, who of course got custody despite, turned them all against him.

Whenever they’d want something she’d say ‘why don’t you go ask your “millionaire father”’?
Meanwhile, even with a solid living this dude was busting ass to pay for her and the kids she took away from him for over 30 years.

In the USA, this is absolutely false.

Only a handful of states even recognize common law marriages and the few that did, many have abolish it over the last several decades. None of the states that still have common law marriage laws say if you live with a woman for X amount of time, you're legally married. You have to take very overt actions beyond being together for even the possibility of a common law marriage to be granted.

You're safe to co-habitat in the USA. For now, at least.
