I've become interested in reading about animals lately.

And there are certain animals that are generally considered to represent the masculine ideal. The lion, the wolf, the silverback, etc.

I was curious if you felt there were any other animals that symbolise masculinity.

Never understood people's dislike of them. Always had one on our farm when younger, killing mice and leaving gifts for us out of them at the front. They're minature killing machines/tigers that have the decency to actually cover their shit (rare in the animal world). They're clean and groomed. They're also the masters of self amusement (as I like to be, totally self generated and absorbed, yet still curious about the world, very direct as well)

As gay as this sounds, the times I acted like a cat, was the times women were most into be. Dogs are fine, but are loyal to the point where they can get abused and still won't leave and are always telling you want to want to hear, and needy. Lile I'm being conned, like he would give to anybody regardless, not much of a personal connection. All of the affection is ironically a bit impersonal. Dogs are escapism.

Cats have dynamic personalities even within the course of a few minutes, some incredible, some nasty, but they won't tell you want to hear, cats are the real world and I like the real world and I want to see. They're independent. The best animal I ever had was a tomcat that all the upsides of a dog with none of the downsides. He'd wait at the bottom of the lane everyday on the school bus drop me off and he's walk me up. He was the most fascinating pet you could have, and a joy to have. He made me his bitch and I loved it He'd sit on the chimney pot of our house and survey the rural landscape like a king on his throne.

I have a special place in my hear for the ungulates.

A stallion on range is a sight to behold. Free, absolute leader, the herd following him everywhere. Any mare is his.



I have heard the call of an bull elk in the autumn rut, and it will send chills down your spine. Its from another world. While not as handsome as a Scottish Hart, its still a magnificent animal.



I have a lot of respect for wolves. I hear lots of stories about them from family, and they are certainly a unique and beautiful creature.

I agree with all of this. Cats can be pretty cool like that.

I'm pretty indifferent myself so I would never have gotten a cat myself but ended up with a kitten recently. I had one when I was younger too.

It's pretty young so she's still playful and curious about the world and able to learn. Not some fat piece of shit that doesn't do anything.

I hate most cats. Most people's cats are fat and selfish bastards. Cats that haven't seen much affection don't look you in the eye and only look around for food. I shout at them to get the fuck out of my house.

This kitten seemed to like hanging around outside my place and then inside my place, (I think partly because I live on the top floor of my apartment building and I think cats like being up high and theres a mat outside it sleeps on) eventually I started to feed it and it absolutely loves raw meat. Actually we both do, sometimes I'll cut up a fish and give her the spine, tail and head.. Doesn't matter what part of animal she will eat it. Fish heads, scales, bones, guts. I've even seen it kill and eat a cockroach. It's far healthier than that high carb cat kibble shit.

I've even fed her raw eggs but she doesn't like those much. It loves chicken organs and beef liver. Now she follows me around and I have even carried her around walking with me to get tacos. I might get her a leash. That would be a hilarious chick magnet.

The raw meat seems to have made it grow a lot and become more energetic and aggressive, it's still small but today it killed and brought me a pigeon round about the same size.

The beaver, a truly proud and noble animal. Very lumbersexual. Chops down trees and builds his own house. No other animal is that clever and industrious.

More generally, large predators: big cats, wolves, bears, birds of prey. I would go with orcas rather than dolphins. Bulls, elephants and horses might be the only other herbivores that are masculine.
