I mean, let's be real. If threaded barrels were common on handguns and rifles here, I guarantee that people would make suppressors like crazy at home with just simple hand tools. Some who have lathes (more common than you think!) would even have some side secret businesses. Our government thought about this obviously. They are very efficient and thorough in some cases, but slack around in majority of other areas.

In prohibition nations the government can usually make short work of leaning on gun suppliers and making them fold.

My guess is that the relevant minister or police chief sent them all a message saying "no threaded barrels or we might lose your buy/sell permit". Much harder to do in Australia because believe it or not all our gun regulation comes from the states, not the federal government. The feds could ban the import of such guns but I suppose they concede that the horse has already bolted on that one.

As usual there are always workarounds but in these matters it pays not to draw attention.

Threaded barrels could also be for different muzzle breaks. Doesn't necessarily mean you have to put a suppressor on it.

Sound suppressors are NFA items in the USA. Need to pay a $200 tax, apply and register the item with the ATF, and wait for the approval (can take up to 6 months I believe). There are a handful of states that outright prohibit them (state regulation can "enhance" federal regulations so long as it does not inhibit constitutional rights). If a crime is committed with a silencer the criminal can be charged a minimum of 30 year prison sentence.

As for threaded barrels - manufacturers typically don't thread barrels from the factory for most of their firearms, though some "tactical" model firearms, especially handguns, may come with them. You can also just bring your firearm to a gunsmith and have them thread your barrel or even do a full install of any muzzle apparatus you want (flash suppressor, recoil compensator)

That is one ugly pistol. Among modern firearms, the ugliest mass-produced sidearm ever made has to be the Webley revolver. I cringe every time I see one on TV. I cannot believe it was produced for so long.

It's a Fan Boy pleaser. They took the 17 frame and mounted a 19 slide on it shit people have done for years. On the plus side, the Generation 5 Glocks are tack drivers. I've been able to shoot groups at distance that remind me of the tightness of the Sig P226 pistols. Also recoil management is a lot better. My preference is the Smith & Wesson 2.0.

Buy a solvent trap adapter that matches the thread pattern of your rifle. Buy the cheapest oil filter that you can get that matches up to the thread pattern of your rifle. Drill an over sized hole in the bottom of the oil filter. Put a rubber plug in the oil filter...to hold the solvent that collects in the oil filter.

Good way to capture your cauatic bore cleaning chemicals.

Overkill, and not effective if you're not using ridiculously high AR style sights.

There are far more practical ways to trap solvents that don't involve special adaptors, the ownership of which can net you a charge from the ATF where you get to explain in court why you're not in violation, and even if you win you don't really win, you just lose less badly.

Suffice to say it's better to learn to tap and thread shit for yourself. It's not hard or even expensive, and it's a decent manly skill fit for many purposes.

First time I shot a G19 was right after shooting a G17, and I gave myself a nasty blood blister on the palm when I took a big pinch of skin between the mag and mag well as I slammed the magazine in. Ouch. So I think the G19 may be a bit small for me; as such, on paper the 19X seems like it would be a good compromise.

Held a 19X the other day, and it fit me nicely; just like a 17. That being said, I really don't see why I wouldn't just get a 17; the difference in size (to my un-Glock-trained eye) is negligible.

If concealed carry is out of the question then just get the bigger gun. Moreover it rarely pays to be an early adopter of a new model when it comes to guns.

It's nice to be able to buy accessories online without having to wonder if the old shit will fit the new gun.
