The Positivity Thread
I feel the need to make a thread that, as the title says, is about positivity in the world. Too many threads in this sub-forum are incredibly negative, all you need to do is look at the thread titles and you can see that.

I figure this can be a spot where we can post stories, videos or whatever you like that feature topics that showcase the best of humanity. It is very easy to be negative given the onslaught of bad news that comes out daily. I am of the opinion that you need to see good to feel good.

I'd like to start it off with this video:

The video is a report done by Tom Brokaw that aired during the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics about the town of Gander, Newfoundland. A small town of 10000 people that took in more than 6000 grounded passengers during 9/11 when the airspace in the U.S. was closed.

It is 43 minutes long, but even in the first 10 minutes you can see how the town rallied and provided for strangers in the midst of a tragedy. As one passenger said, and I'm paraphrasing here but:

"The events of 9/11 made me lose hope in humanity, but in the three days that I was here, the actions of this town reversed that."

It happens often that in the wake of tragedy that the best of humanity comes out in response. I hope you guys enjoy the video and please add anything that showcases humans in a positive light. It is sorely needed these days.

As far as inspirational or positive videos, I always think of this somewhat sad but inspiring video about Terry Fox, narrated by Steve Nash:

It shows the power of will and the power of love.

You can always enjoy watching children reunite with their fathers coming home from military duty:

The Terry Fox Run is a staple of Canada. I remember collecting all the pennies I could in grade three and filling an empty water jug. Thanks for the reminder.

Also, those military videos get me every time.

Beyond Borders, I should have used more search terms and found your thread before creating this one. Kudos. We need more subway heroes. Or any kind of heroes.

Terry Fox in my idol. Steve Nash is another idol of mine.

There is so much good in the world but media outlets make more money from negativity.

We have become more focused on the negative simply so the media can make more money.

In my experience, a positive mindset serves two purposes:

It encourages productivity.. It discourages complaining while encouraging solutions.

It helps to spark creativity. It keeps the imagination open.

That said, I do believe in a healthy dose of negativity, there is a time for it. We must find the healthy balance of negative and positive.

When in doubt, I error on the side of positivity. It keeps my attitude healthy and inspires the people around me. I like to be a source of light in dark places.

There is a 10 finger gratitude exercise which is great for positivity that I have gotten from the book Mindfullness by Mark Williams. Basically everyday list 10 positive things that happened that day that you were grateful for. Count with your fingers each one. The idea is that if you do this everyday for awhile you start thinking this way. Its on page 109 if you read the book.

I am always inspired by confident leaps of creativity.

Song is okay, video is amazing.

It's just stop motion animation, pieces of paper, and scissors.

Anyone has the materials to make this.

It's the creativity that counts, not the tech.

There are no real excuses.

Amazing.

Also, as a musician this did keep my interest. The chords are in motion a lot, and they change in non-specific places.

Watch the clay animation in this clip, can you imagine how much work this was? I'd have to guess at sixteen hour days for months for the following five minutes.

RE: The Positivity Thread
I just remembered this incredible video of a youtuber helping a homeless man. I want to do this for a homeless man at least once before I croak.

Look at the homeless mans reactions to the delicious food at 4:23! Awesome. How could this not make you feel good?
