Corfu

In early July I recently spent 3.5 days in Corfu. It was just beginning to hit the main tourist season so things were popping but not quite crowded as it is in August. Overall I felt like food/alcohol/transport was cheap in Corfu. You can take the bus for the most part and be good to see the main areas. At most you may pay 5 euros for a one way trip but normally it’s 2-3 euros. After a day I ended up renting a vehicle which was the best decision I could of made. If I hadn’t then I wouldn’t of gotten my only lay while on the island.

Where to stay?
I stayed in Corfu town which is where you will find the highest concentration of bars, restaurants, shops, etc in Corfu but it also has the most expensive accommodation. I was thinking about Pink Palace but when I was in Albania, I met a group of Aussies who told me it was a sausage fest and kind of in the middle of nowhere. If you spent a week in Corfu (which I don’t recommend as 3/4 days is enough) I would do the weekend in Corfu town and then the weekdays at the beach. Which beaches to stay at? Ipsos/Dassidia/Gouda and Sidari for beaches and clubs, Paelo for daygaming and beaches, and the rest of you bring a girl. I hear Kavos in the very south is wild, dirty, and cheap as well.


Daygame/Nightlife
Why spend the weekend in Corfu town? Because it’s very busy at night Thursday-Saturday but outside of that it’s very boring. You will find bars, some bars that play music, and a few clubs here. You can also find some clubs just outside of the city and in Ipsos as well. I can’t speak about Kavis as I didn’t go but I hear that’s a party place as well....if you want to score with sloppy British girls.
Beach game goes like this: Meet a group of girls lounging during the day, spit some game and get them digits, meet up with them later for drinks, and hopefully smash later in the evening. If you have a car then that alleviates the possibility of not meeting them later because they live on the other side of the island. The logistics on this island can really cockblock you as people tend to visit different beaches everyday.

Girls
Plenty of girls here who come with a friend or a small group. Sure it’s not crazy like the other islands but you have plenty of opportunities to daygame in Corfu town as well as on the beaches. Corfu has a huge student and young Greek population. In Corfu town I found the ratios to be even if not better especially before 1am. I found greek girls to be quite attractive and friendly! Nice asses and long dark hair if that’s your thing.

Did I get laid? Well first let’s talk about my failures. Tried to game solo for some of the trip and it was rough. Like I said girls went in groups or as a family vacation so I had a hard time with that. Because of the sheer size of the island I would meet or match girls on tinder that were half way across the island so it made things difficult.

I actually did hook a Greek girl at a bar late on a Saturday night. I saw her come in and I immediately started chatting with her. We danced a little bit and it seemed like the odds were in my favor but unfortunately without going into too much detail an incident beyond my control materialized. It left her very stressed and totally changed the mood. This was when the bar was closing so It made it even worse as I was so close. After a while she told me that she will be okay so I left to get some rest.

My only actual lay was a gift. During my trip I met some two dudes who ended up being cool as hell and good wingmen. We spent the evenings drinking, watching the World Cup, and hitting on girls without much success. Luckily for us one of the guys had matched with a European girl earlier in the trip who was asking him to come party with them. Lucky for me she had two friends and our group total was three. Problem was that they lived a good 45 minutes north and the bus had stopped running. Lucky for us I had rented a vehicle the day before so I was able to drive us to Sidari where they were staying. We drank, listening to some music, walked in the beach, drank some more until they finally invited us to their place since we were too drunk to drive back . Needless to say we all got laid that night.

Would I do Corfu again? Nope. It’s better to bring a girl here but there are plenty of girls here to choose from. On average you’re looking at 8-12 euro for a meal, 3-4 euro for a gyro, and 3-4 for a beer. If you leave the main touristy area by about 100 meters you can find cheaper food and beer prices as well.

^, do a lot of people speak Italian in Corfu? I've heard thats the case and also, how much did you end up paying to hotel per day?

The Italians come in hordes around August.

I spent about 55 euro for a apartment that was a 2 min walk from all the bars in Corfu Town.

If you wanted hotels at the beaches then usually range from 70-90 euro a night.

You're looking too late for this year, but too early for next year. If you want a decent selection for accommodation you need to book about 3-4 months in advance.

I was on the islands a few years and the ratios were fine. Its guy heavy, but so many of the guys are gameless or in bad shape that it doesn't really matter. I'd say 60-40 or 70-30 depending on where/when. Its pretty similar to Koh Phi Phi or Koh Phangan in that regard.

Even without reservations you can show up in Mykonos and find a hotel by just walking around. Or just search booking.com as things usually pop up.

I went to Crete with my girl and had a great time renting a car and driving around, checking out the vineyards and going wine tasting. I can't really recommend Hersonissos. It felt like a bunch of retirees and families. Didn't see so much of a good looking young crowd even walking around the clubs/bar.

By all means try checking it out for a weekend. If you aren't feeling it you can fly to another island.

Lindsay Lohan opened up a club in Mykonos. Might be interesting to check out and meet her if she is around. She doesn't seem to be acting anymore or no one is hiring her for films anymore. But they might film some reality show about her club.

Haven't been to Mykonos myself but a guy I know told me that girls would come to you and straight up ask where you room is. Of course I take every such statement with a grain of salt, but I have heard from numerous sources that sex can just "happen" like that there.

Does anyone know how Crete is in August? Some universities start in mid-August in Europe so that may hurt the number of girls visiting.

Generally speaking, almost all Greek islands hit peak in August. Number of tourists, also the prices.

I guess I'm leaning more towards Crete since its farther away from the refugees.

The peak in the tourist season is around mid August. Typically starts to drop after the end of the 3rd week of August, however the place is far from empty since the season extends to as far as the end of September. As far as I know most tourists from Northern Europe take their vacation in July, but I'm sure you're going to find many even in August.

Yep, Scandinavians go to Rhodes since forever. They hang out in Rhodes town, BUT loads of Scandinavian men looking to get laid as well and the competition is fierce. I would not recommend this scene to outsiders.

Do you guys think the greek economy will recover since they are ending the bailout soon? It sounds like most of the islands like Rhodes, Corfu and crete are still cheap from what i've heard?

Since millions and billions of tourists head to the greek islands, I'm confused why they had economic problems in the first place since they should be getting a lot of tourism money. Unless all those island businesses are evading taxes, Greece should be like the Carribean when it comes to tourism money.

Certainly not all, but many have been doing that as far as I know.

I wouldn't worry about the prices going up though. I don't really think the prices on islands changed all that much even with the bailout. When thinking about pricing and islands, the most important factors are 1) which island and 2) which period. Mykonos and Santorini for instance are crazy expensive compared to, say, Crete. And mid July to late August is high season, so accomodation is more expensive then.
