Honestly I think this growing dog trend is much, much worse than having a cat for women. They treat dogs like their children and just obsess over them on a level that seems unhealthy to me. Cats are pretty chill and aloof, but dogs give that undying unrelenting love and loyalty and attention and it's like it overstimulates women's brains or something, like it consumes them.

Yep. Cats traditionally were for women who were never going to have kids in the first place, for either physical or emotional/psychological reasons. The typical woman was never at risk for becoming a cat lady. But like you say, dogs give "normal" women the undying love and affection they crave. It's a far more dangerous substitute.
