There's some interesting information contained here, about the hookers of the wild west and the reality of what it entailed. It's the world's oldest profession after all, and contributed handily to the bleak economies of the frontier. Most of these broads looked as ugly as the cowboys they were fucking.


We like to glamorize the old days a lot around here, but we certainly can appreciate modern medicine... The treatments for STD's back then sound absolutely hellish.

Prostitution was rampant everywhere in the West.

The reasons for this were multifold:

1) There was a stark difference between the honorable women/virginal brides & the prostitutes
2) Poverty was a big motivator for more prostitution
3) There was a huge overhang of women vs men in most places in the West except of course for the Wild West and other such areas far way from civilization - then a fugly disease-ridden woman was the queen. Though the pretty young girls had an easier time settling with a rich local guy.

Syphilis levels in those days must have been crazy high.

Brothels had owners, not exactly the modern pimps.

The Wild West was lousy for men. IN contrast cities like London had an overhang of 20% more women than women and at times actually 20% of the female population was engaged in various levels of prostitution - occasional whore, full-time whore or luxury mistress that was kept as well as his wife.

Also what many people don't know is that legalized prostitution lowers the rape rate.

Yep I agree. If a guy dives really deep into the P4P scene, they will find out that most of the girls in it hate your guts. Some of them would rob you blind (or worse) if given the chance. There's barely any mental connection involved in these transactions unfortunately. There might be exceptions but typically it is the despair for cash or yearning for quick cash (or being pimped) that draws the chicks into it.

I read a few books on hookers/pimps written from before the 60s (so they can be fairly counted on to report what people said and did, as opposed to the post 60s books where the author pontificates on the marxist social theory relating to some of what the subjects may have "really meant").

The consensus was that the pimp was nothing more than the filled-in version of a patriarch that the hooker used to fulfill her need of creating a somewhat whole family unit, as long as it was not a "square" version.

Two things stood out and stuck with me:

1. The hooker sees themselves in antagonism to the "squares" (anyone normal, nearly any John, anyone working 9-5, etc). They earn the money, they are not married and therefore can do whatever they like with their bodies. But that they would give themselves over to a pimp seems a bit antithetical (since that is mirroring a "square" role of a husband/father), until you see it from their lens that, since the pimp is not part of the "square" world, he cannot be judged by the same "square" rules, even if he is playing a "square" role in her life.

2. The pimps don't actually do anything for the girl; don't sell her services; don't collect money from Johns; don't protect her from Johns' abuse. The pimps exist as a consistent part of the girl's life, and the pimps receive some of the money. And as a funny aside, the books identified that the majority of pimps (a lot of the pimps I read about were white), had their first sexual experience at a very young age, with a woman who was a friend of their mother. So they were totally desensitized to the sexual appeals of other young women, because they were given sex requiring no effort from mature women. Thus they were able to view the young puss as purely a transactional tool, and almost counted themselves entitled to receiving some of the fruits of its labors just by virtue of that realization.


I realize this doesn't cover the girls that were "turned out" actively by a pimp. But it seems to me that the more realistic mass is a combo of Girl Looking To Turn Out + Pimp Looking To Turn Girl Out, than it is a virginal blossom being plucked off the first bus from Bumfuckville and being defiled.

Yep I agree. If a guy dives really deep into the P4P scene, they will find out that most of the girls in it hate your guts. Some of them would rob you blind (or worse) if given the chance. There's barely any mental connection involved in these transactions unfortunately. There might be exceptions but typically it is the despair for cash or yearning for quick cash (or being pimped) that draws the chicks into it.

Not only that, but there are non-pro women who despise men who try to impress them with money. This is a peculiar breed of woman to watch out for. I knew some in my youth. A recent post at the Heartiste blog illustrated this.

So with some women, you can be despised for paying for sex or be hated for paying for dinner. Your choice!

He embodies the dichotomy of the pimp in my opinion.

On the one hand, he is kind of a bottom feeder who is not going anywhere except prison. (What pimp would be dumb enough to have a documentary made about him?)

People think that pimps are some kind of high life living folk heros. A lot like drug dealers.

You believe they are living in penthouses driving fancy cars with bikini chicks just lounging around.

In actuality they live in flop houses and drive Chevy caprices with empty douche bottles all over the floor. It's only the tip one percent that are worth a crap.

I used to rent a crap ass apartment in waikiki to a pimp. His Instagram is big stacks of money and fancy gold chains. The reality was he was late with the rent every damn month. His hoes in the daylight and out of uniform were pathetic.

He had a PhD which is a "pimpin hoes degree."

I agree. I was the pimp who knew some girls in the business while also knowing some wealthy whoremongers. So we set up a site and organized the whole thing. The girls made more money than we did, but since one of the goals was also to bang them, then it worked like a charm.

Making serious money however would have necessitated far more resolve in it. And frankly the biz is too dirty for my taste.

When you see some young girls come back crying, when you see them dying inwardly and killing their emotions with cocaine and alcohol, then only a certain kind of man does not give a shit. I am certainly not that kind of man.
