So, the Tsar of Moscow and All Russias, Comrade Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin, a few hours ago, issued his strongest warning to date against Russian perennial adversaries, i.e. US and NATO. With a blue widescreen as a backdrop, he flaunted his country’s capability to repel any form of military attack and launch decisive countermeasures that should ensure the enemies’ convincing defeat.

First, he confirmed that the Sarmat ICBM would replace the old but already formidable SS-18 ‘Satan’. Then he turned to new weapon systems:
A nuclear-powered cruise missile with basically unlimited range
A nuclear powered unmanned submersible with intercontinental range, very high speed, silent propulsion and capable of moving at great depths
A Mach 10 hypersonic missile with a 2,000-kilometer range (named: Kinzhal)
A new strategic missile capable of Mach 20 velocities (named: Avangard)
All these systems can be armed with conventional or nuclear warheads. Just think of the implications! Not only does that mean that the entire ABM effort of the USA is now void and useless, but also that from now US aircraft carrier battle groups can only be used against small, defenseless nations!

Now, any rational military mind would conclude that it’s game over and that the US should try to create a better understanding with Russia and start negotiating the issues of mutual concern -Syria, the Middle East as a whole, Ukraine, etc. However, this is not the case with the Trump Administration and the U.S. State Department immediately responded and has approved the sale of Javelin anti-tank missiles and launch units to Ukraine at an estimated cost of $47 million, the Pentagon said on Thursday. If only President Trump could appoint Ivanka as Secretary of State!

By the way, someone who is more than happy with Putin’s announcement is China. As you know, both countries China and Russia have been building a very solid alliance for almost 18 years now to face a common enemy -The Anglo Zionist Empire. As a product of this alliance China today enjoys the nuclear ballistic protection of Russia and a secured, inexpensive and timely provision of oil and natural gas. Without these two vital covers China couldn’t continue its quest for World supremacy and its mammoth One Belt, One Road Initiative, which is intended to create new markets and secure raw materials for the Chinse industrial powerhouse, wouldn’t be possible.

I don't really care. We already have the weapons to destroy ourselves so to see more fancy doomsday tech being developed is nothing new.

I don't know who said it or where first but figure of 50 years or so is frequently quoted on the net. 50 years meaning that military technology is 50 years ahead of what civilians can get. That makes sense when you think about it but these weapons are honestly not so über amazing when you think about it. Unmanned? Nukes? Stealth? That is really old tech that just gets upgraded over time.

Remember WWI and WWII? When shit hits the fan and war progresses into its 2nd year, suddenly you see that unbelievable things used on the battlefield. Civilians and soldiers at the start of WWI and WWII witnessed and knew only about rifles, automatic weapons, tanks, howitzers and planes. But when wars progressed, suddenly radio controlled weapons came out, superb navigation, pinpoint accuracy, jets and what not, which kickstarted civilian technology after the wars.

Bottom line. I think this is not a big deal and when shit hits the fan, we will see something which will make things OP wrote about almost a normality. I am talking about robots, AI weapons, cloaking and maybe something out of conspiracy theories.

Putin's up for re-election, and while it's certainly not in doubt that he'll cleanly walk away with it, there is strong need for him to project the image of a strong Russian Federation as he is currently embroiled in regional conflict(s) and non-regional ones as well. This is America-level military operation and Russia is handling it all far better than I think most observers expected. Overall, it's a far cry from the failed / costly Russian military / geo-political machinations of the 70's, 80's, and 90's. And really it is, given the last few years which have seen:

1. Crimea / Crimea Bridge (securing future Russian control)
2. Syria de facto victory, Assad is still in power without a doubt.
3. Sakaschivili out of Ukraine, Kiev in the throes of another Maidan.
4. Ruble under 60:1 against the dollar for the first time in years even with more sanction from America and shit oil prices.
5. Oligarchs at least not brazenly robbing the country a la 1990's
6. Crime down, jobs up, talent staying in Russia, not just immediately fleeing to Europe or Israel.
7. About to win an election with +70 percent numbers to continue a 15+ year reign.

Further, the technologies he's describing have existed for years. Supersonic ballistic missiles? Been done. Effectively silent submarines? They're called nuclear submarines. They've been in operation since late WWII.

"Putin issues strong warning." That's some low budget translation. Putin said that threats to his claimant sphere of influence will be meet with force. Said China. Said America. Said ISIS. Said Australia. This is not new rhetoric, the only difference is the West and Russia have found themselves on the opposite side of what are essentially neo-proxy wars twice in a row now so westerners think they're under attack.

On the military front, Russia has been exceptionally restrained, they've stayed on the high road and are now clearly the good guys, supporting Assad's fight for Syria against the NATO/GCC/Israel-backed jihadis. They've bombed ISIS to oblivion, liberated many cities including christian enclaves, working with the Syrian army which is made up of sunni muslim, christian and alawite nationalists.

Russia does have the capacity to wipe out all American bases in northeastern Syria, which are less than 1000km from the Russian border. They can definitely shoot down B-52s or C-130s which were involved in taking out their mercenaries near the Euphrates. This will be the kind of escalation that Putin is keeping on the shelf. The reason he hasn't used this is that the MSM and political establishment has successfully whipped up russophobia to a point where an escalation in Syria and the Ukraine would not encounter the kind of domestic backlash that prevented Obama and Cameron from intervening against Syria back in 2013.

I don't get the love for Putin and Russia on this forum (aside from the fact that he takes his shirt off a lot and does outdoor stuff).

-He's a politician first and foremost, trying to convince people who live in the largest nation on earth yet have a per capita GDP less than that of Grenada that he is doing a good job. A super fast missile that could so easily destroy the enemy is a great distraction to someone trying to get by on a pension, the system for which was recently voted the worst in the world.

-His nation has also agreed to multiple arms limitations agreements with the Untied States and other countries over many years, so all of these developments would have to occur within the allowable framework of these treaties. I'm not saying that he hasn't improved his nation's lot. I'm not even saying he's a bad leader- he might be great, exactly what Russia needs at this time, etc.

All I'm saying is that people here worship the guy and wheat quotas going up, pork belly futures improving and people dying at 59 instead of 55 can't be the only reason, because nobody here gives a shit about that (I don't see people here crowing about every African autocrat who raises soybean production). I think we are conflating the few aspects of society that we care about- a nation with masculine men and feminine women unaffected by SJW lunacy- with the place itself.

1) Vladimir Putin is a politician, and despite the rigged voting and totalitarian regime he represents, it's probably easier for him and his oligarch crony friends if the masses are lulled into acceptance of their leadership based on his strong anti-NATO stand. Therefore, I would take everything he says with a bulldozer bucket full of salt.

2) It's Russia- without getting into cultural arguments (and I know one can be made for the superiority of Russian culture), it is objectively true that compared to who they would think are their peers or competitors, Russia has it worse in just about every tangible, concrete, measurable economic indicator. So despite the beautiful feminine women, if I lived and worked there it's doubtful I could afford to take her out.

3) Also, lets say the weapons are real and they work. Why would anyone in the US celebrate that fact? I hate SJWs, the left, Obama, Hillary, etc., as much as the next guy here, perhaps even more, but to be pleased that my potential enemy, one of the very few serious credible threats to the safety of the US existing in the world today, can now destroy me? Lived in Sheffield for a short while. You are fucked 100% in bad weather conditions in winter let alone if a nuke dropped nearby.
