Bootleg jeans can become any style of jeans smaller than bootleg with a tailor. How much does that cost in South Africa? Or wherever you might be now.

In China it costs almost nothing so I go to second hand stores in the states when Im back, buy all kinds of trousers, wool, cotton, linen, jeans, chinos, etc, that fit me well in the waist/butt/thighs but are too long and the pant leg is too wide (i.e. bootleg or straight leg but too wide). I take them to my tailor and for 3-4 dollars a piece she will make the leg more slim. I tell her exactly how wide at the knee and at the pant cuff.

You can consider this for all your bootleg jeans. Also you can find a second hand store and try what I mentioned above.

My Unbranded's have faded quite a bit over the years and the crotch has blown out in multiple places. I've had it fixed but decided to get a new pair or jeans.

So a few days ago I got Uniqlo's slim stretch selvedge denim.

So far so good.

They're very lightweight compared to the UB's. I'm wearing them right now and they don't feel uncomfortable despite being 25ºC outside.

The stretch is phenomenal. I must say I've become a huge fan of pants with elastane. It's hard to go back to 100% cotton.

Thanks to the stretch, these jeans fit perfectly. At this point they're tight but I'm sure they'll loosen up a bit. If this is the slim, I can't imagine what the skinny fits like. You probably need to be asian-skinny to fit in those.

At 50USD, they are hard to beat.

Check the link again, it looks like Uniqlo does carry 34 and bigger sizes:



If you have a 36 or 38 waist, the slim fit might not be the best for you though (depends on your body shape and body fat). I don't think they carry regular fit stretch selvedge denim.

As for Unbranded denim...

I've only had one pair, so I can't comment too much on it.

It's a very durable pair of pants, but I found it too thick for my weather (hot, humid) and uncomfortable to wear - at least in relation to what a pair with stretch has to offer.

Unbranded also carries a stretch version of their pants, which is similar in weight to Uniqlo's (both around 11-12oz). The regular UB's are 14.5oz. Also, the UB's are ~80USD for the regular, and 100+ for the stretch.

Acne is a solid brand that is commonly available in most cities. I'd say their price usually matches their quality. From my experience they really go for a more slim cut in all their designs.

I have two pairs of Momotaros and a pair of Naked and Famous tweed fill for cooler season.

The Momotaros are worth the money. They usually run from $150-$250 depending on where you get them. I bought one pair in 2012 in Japan at a boutique and another pair in 2015 at the official Momotaro store in Tokyo.

Acne aren't bad but I'd take Saint Laurent over all three. The Saint Laurent raw black slim cut is my favourite cut of jeans going and I've tried the majority of high end labels and a lot of the mid range like APC and Acne. I wear the skinny raw black here and there too with some shoes, and if you buy the correct size they aren't too tight.

I’ve got UB401 and UB455, best investment in clothing yet in terms of a balance between quality, price and style. Got each for 50USD from Montreal and they weren’t even on sale.

I didn’t like the fit of Uniqlo so I didn’t buy

I heard SL has a really good cut. Im looking on grailed and have seem some really good deals for their jeans and balmains also. I'd never actually consider paying full retail for them though.

I pay full retail for them because I don't like the idea of anything that someone else has used. They last very well though so are kind of worth it; I've still got pairs from spring and summer 2013 when they first launched that I've absolutely hammered and they're still holding up pretty well. I only wear the raw indigo and the raw black though so I'm not paying the stupid money for the destroyed ones and the chain ones etc.

I need an athletic fit to get the right thigh width. Levis is way too tight in the knees, so can't sit down. Luckys is pretty comfortable although a tad baggy in the thighs.

Use woolite for darks when washing. Soak in the tub with cold water and and hang dry after single rinse. Hang dry. Stretch by hand during drying to prevent shrink. And obviously minimize washing, although this is hard to control if you are wearing them every day. Cycling through your jeans also makes them last longer instead of wearing it every day. Although you wait longer to get your "sick fade."

So I ended up buying a pair of SLP black jeans today off Grailed for $255 USD. The guy selling bought a pair but then they didn't fit so thats why I got them at a steep discount.

For anyone wondering, I picked them up in the d01 cut as that is their slim fit. Their d02 cut is their skinny which is tighter than their slim cut and their d03 is a straight/regular fit.

My thighs and ass are pretty big from lifting so most fashion jeans I think will be pretty snug on me. I expect the SLP d01s I bought will be pretty snug throughout for a week or so until I stretch them out and hopefully they fit well when they arrive. If not I'll just post them on Grailed as NWOT for $500 USD.

I thought a lot about the Balmains and even went to a store to try them on but after thinking about it they looked a little too hood rich for me.

Good choice, can't go wrong with the D01 in raw black denim. On sizing they're not particularly tight, maybe comparable to APC new standard, so I think you'll be fine. Length will most likely need hemming though as they come long to cater to all customers. I usually do mine to just have a slight break with boots and they look pretty clean that way.

Do you ever do it at a specific jean tailor for hems or will any tailor do? I think the jean specific tailor can keep the edge or something like that but I'm not sure igaf enough to go out of my way for that.

Yeah SLP has some really cool stuff, it's their styling that really sticks out. I think I might pick up a plaid shirt by them and some boots if I can grab a deal.

I use the tailor that does all the work for Saint Laurent's London stores. I don't have the staff in stores pin them though because they're not really skilled enough, I go and see the tailor directly at his premises. All the work I've had done has been excellent and not particularly expensive.

When hemming jeans I personally wash them first to get the shrinkage out of the way, and then wear them for a week or two so that all the creasing behind the knee which reduces length takes place. This is important because when you want no break or a slight break, you can end up with them being too short if you hem them before washing / creasing has taken place.

On Saint Laurent I pretty much wear it head to toe, but I avoid the feminine / loud items and generally stick to the basics, which are all very classic and perfectly cut. I'd advise you to buy what you like while you can because the good stuff from Slimane's era doesn't look like it will be around that much longer with all the changes.

The perks of living in London. When I had a blown out crotch for my 3 sixteens I had to ship them to NYC and it ended up costing around 100 USD or more.

SS13 until AW16. There's still a lot of his designs kept on because they sell well, but a lot of it has gone now and been replaced by awful stuff with logos all over it.
