I never thought of that. Maybe the sweet spot of sexbots (and to avoid uncanny valley) is to intentionally make them look like cartoon characters.

I do think the more one of these sexbots are able to express real personalities the easier it will be to accept their physical limitations. I mean, think how satisfied Joaquin Phoenix was just walking around with a bluetooth earpiece in Her and getting the occasional phone-sex session out of Scarlett Johansson's voice.

I know there's strong feelings about what women are capable of giving a man as far as companionship, whether anything comes out of their mouths is worth listening to, etc... but with sexbots there are no rules as there is no internal evolutionary psychological wiring. A big chunk of elite school kids are virgins. I'm talking 30-40% here. I think people really underestimate the number of guys who've never had sex.

Further, a lot of technologies have strategic approaches to scaling: for example many solar companies go country hopping, chasing government subsidies. Companies like Dow and DuPont are always safe investments. They're massive chemical companies. Edit: DowDuPont now since the two merged.

The problem in terms of optimizing investments is that rubber may only be 0.01% of DowDuPont.

The time investment will really be in figuring if there are smaller industry suppliers that have 50-90% of their business in this industry. Maybe there's a small company that's the best source for robot skin rubber that looks almost real and feels warm.

If I ever end up finding the time to do the research (those three degrees in engineering and materials science may finally come in hand), I'll definitely write up a datasheet.

This forum is remarkably good at spotting trends. It's about time we all start making money off the tremendous amount of knowledge on RVF.
